Choosing uPVC Replacement Window Handles

Window handles are a fundamental element of your uPVC windows and should be matched to the existing frame. The most important thing is the spindle's length which determines whether your new uPVC handle will fit.

Espag Handle

Espag handles are the most commonly used design of handle used on windows made of upvc (they're often found in timber and aluminium too). The handles feature a square spindle that extends from the back of the handle and locks into the multi-point locking mechanism of the window. By turning the handle you control the mechanism that locks and unlocks the locking points around the window.

Espag window handles come in a number of options that differ in style based on the design you pick and the function you'd like to achieve from them. Some have a push button for the locking position to be locked and key-locking. (And fire-escape nonlocking in the event of need.) As with other types of handles, you can pick between straight and Cranked designs. Cranked handles are ideal for situations where the espagnolette handle is going to be situated close to the frame's edge because they provide more clearance for opening the window.

Cockspur Handle

The Cockspur Window Handle is a handle designed specifically for the fabricator who wants to offer their customers a stylish and premium design. These handles can be used with either uPVC or aluminium windows and are operated by an edge that is secured over the edge of the frame to secure the window. This window handle can also be locked so that it opens only when pushed, providing additional security. The handle comes in five different finishes, with both left hand and right hand versions allowing the fabricator to accommodate a greater selection of windows.

The cockspur window handle comes with three packing pieces that are of different thicknesses. This allows them to be adjusted to a range of sizes for backsets. Each packer can be removed from the handle nose or added to the size of the step to get a different distance between 9mm and 21mm. The handle is also available in left and right handed versions and with a straight or curved nose design.
