Airway exchange catheter is a valuable tool where an airway is anticipated to be difficult to reintubate. We report a case of subcutaneous emphysema, pneumomediastinum, pneumoperitoneum, and pneumothorax after extubation using an exchange catheter. There was an iatrogenic tracheal tear during airway management that filled the connected spaces with oxygen insufflation through the catheter. The management was prompt with reintubation and drainage of pneumothorax using intercostal cannula connected to underwater seal constructed from available equipment. The patient was ventilated for 2 days and then extubated without complications. Airway exchange catheter should be used cautiously with a low initial gas flow during extubation.While shown to be safe for administration in pediatric patients, sugammadex has recently been associated with residual weakness or recurarization. We describe 4 additional cases of pediatric patients with residual or recurrent weakness following rocuronium reversal with sugammadex. Two infant patients developed postoperative ventilatory distress, which was possibly related to recurarization after sugammadex reversal. A third patient received sugammadex with apparent waning of clinical effect and subsequently required neostigmine reversal. A fourth patient was observed to have residual weakness, which led to prolonged intubation despite appropriate train-of-four results after reversal with sugammadex.The relatively high cost of sugammadex compared to neostigmine limits its widespread use to reverse neuromuscular blockade, despite its faster onset and more complete clinical effect. While ensuring timely access to sugammadex is important in improving perioperative safety, it is also vital to control unnecessary spending. We describe a quality improvement initiative to reduce excess spending on sugammadex while improving access for anesthesia providers. We report a case of intrathecal morphine-induced hypothermia with profuse sweating, intractable nausea, and vomiting in a primigravid woman undergoing cesarean delivery in the setting of preeclampsia. All symptoms rapidly resolved after a single dose of intravenous nalbuphine. Because nalbuphine has a long track record of safe use on labor and delivery units, it is an attractive and novel choice for treatment of neuraxial morphine-induced hypothermia.Preoperative anxiety is common in children undergoing surgery and general anesthesia (GA). Augmented reality (AR), an interactive technology that superimposes computer-generated information on the real-world environment, can be a valuable tool to address preoperative anxiety. We describe 3 cases where AR was successfully used as a distraction technique in pediatric patients during induction of GA. Patients and parents were satisfied with the experience and described less patient anxiety as compared to previous inductions. Our case report describes a 25-year-old patient with painful spastic cerebral palsy, who experienced prolonged improvement of his symptoms after treatment with propofol. Because there is no standard measure or set of measures, variability in reporting patterns makes comparison across studies difficult. Methods We performed a review of the literature using the keywords "total hip arthroplasty" and "total hip replacement" to electronically search PubMed, using the date range August 1, 2014, to August 1, 2019. Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) that were published in 12 high-impact journals were analyzed. Results One hundred and fifty-nine RCTs were included. The most common topic of investigation was hip implant design and materials, followed by the effect of different hip approaches on patient outcomes. The follow-up period was classified as short-term (10 years). Only 6% of the RCTs reported long-term outcomes. Methods All the literatures published in Chinese Journal of Preventive Medicine from 2014 to 2017 were retrieved through the Chinese Medical Citation index, and the citation frequency data in China's core journals of science and technology from 2014 to 2018 was obtained through Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China(the cut-off time was October 2018). The citation status of articles published in Chinese Journal of Preventive Medicine was statistically analyzed by the method of literature metrology. The main indicators included the citation rate of articles published in each year, the citation frequency of all articles, the citation status of individual papers and authors, the regional and high-yield institution distribution of cited authors, and the main citation journals. Results From 2014 to 2017, a totare than 25 times, and 15 articles were cited more than 20 times. There were 213 institutions involved in the 768 cited papers, among which 12 institutions were cited more than 50 times. The authors of the cited papers were distributed in 29 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government). From 2014 to 2018, a total of 281 journals cited papers published in our journal, 12 of which were cited more than 50 times. link3 Conclusion The quality of the literature in Chinese Journal of Preventive Medicine is high and the journal has a strong influence in the field of preventive medicine and public health in China. The editorial department should adjust the column setting timely, strengthen the planning of key topic selection and the solicitation and publicity of excellent papers, reduce the number of papers cited by zero, and further improve the influence of the magazine.
