Infants born after a threatened preterm labour (TPL infants) are at high risk of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Studying this population may provide insight on the pathophysiological underpinnings of this condition. This study aimed to (i) ascertain the presence and autistic symptom load in TPL infants aged age 30 months relative to non-TPL infants, regardless of preterm birth; (ii) explore the association between early (at 6 months) psychomotor development and temperament features with the autistic symptom load of TPL infants at age 30 months and (iii) examine the association among perinatal risk factors for ASD development with the autistic symptom load of TPL infants at age 30 months. A group of 111 mother-infant pairs recruited at TPL diagnosis and a group of 47 healthy mother-infant controls completed the follow-up. Irrespective of preterm birth, TPL infants showed higher autistic symptom load at age 30 months than non-TPL infants. TPL infants presented poorer communication and problem-solving skills, reduced smiling and laughter, and greater vocal reactivity at age 6 months, predicting higher autistic symptom load at age 30 months. Higher levels of anxiety symptoms in TPL mothers after a TPL diagnosis also predicted higher autistic symptom load for the infants at age 30 months. These results suggest that TPL infants may be an undescribed cluster, with features that differentiate them from other "at-risk" populations. These findings support the need for routine assessment of TPL infants and screening of anxiety symptoms in mothers.Patients with irritability, temper outbursts, hyperactivity and mood swings often meet the dysregulation profile (DP) of the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) or the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), which have been investigated over the past few decades. While the DP has emerged as a transdiagnostic marker with a negative impact on therapeutic outcome and psychosocial functioning, little is known about its underlying mechanisms such as attention and emotion regulation processes. In this study, we tested whether adolescent psychiatric patients (n = 27) with the SDQ-DP show impaired emotional face processing for task-irrelevant stimuli compared to psychiatric patients without the SDQ-DP (n = 30) and non-clinical adolescents (n = 21). Facial processing was tested with event-related potential (ERP) measures known to be modulated by attention (i.e., P1, N1, N170, P2, and Nc) during a modified Attention Network Task, to which task-irrelevant emotional stimuli (sad, fearful, and neutral faces) were added prior to the actual trial. This work presents an extensive depiction of the influence of indoor environment thoron dispersion under fixed boundary conditions within the volume domain of 90 m3 using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software. For the desirable air flow, inlet and outlet are considered in the room and the k-ɛ model is used. The thoron distribution is studied at different locations and different heights to cover the whole room. Obtained dispersion patterns vary at different locations and indicate non-uniformity of thoron level with elevated values in the room corners. Mean concentration was found to be 11 Bq/m3 with the exhalation rate of 0.102 Bqm-2 s-1. Some stagnant zones were found especially at the corners where the concentration is almost 5 times the average concentration. Such varying thoron level results in the overestimation and underestimation of the dose. The inhomogeneous behavior of thoron may cause variation in equilibrium factor. A simulated model is beneficial in understanding the radioactive gas behavior and has its importance in planning to find the correct dose estimation and, therefore, the best mitigation techniques.The aim of this study was to assess feasibility and safety of office-based transnasal balloon dilation of neopharyngeal and proximal esophageal strictures in patients with a history of head and neck carcinoma. The secondary objective was to explore its effectiveness. This prospective case series included patients previously treated for head and neck carcinoma with neopharyngeal or proximal esophageal strictures who underwent transnasal balloon dilation under topical anesthesia. The target dilation diameter was 15 mm; if necessary dilation procedures were repeated every 2-4 weeks until this target was reached. Completion rates, adverse events, and patient experiences measured by VAS scores (0 = no complaints - 10 = unbearable complaints), dysphagia scores based on food consistency (0 = no dysphagia - 5 = unable to swallow liquids/saliva), and self-reported changes in swallowing symptoms were recorded. Follow-up was 2 months. Twenty-six procedures were performed in 12 patients, with a completion rate of 92%. One minor complication occurred, i.e. an infection of the dilation site. Tolerance of the procedure was good (median VAS = 2). The dysphagia score improved after a mean of 2.2 procedures per patient, however not significantly. Eight patients reported improvement in dysphagia, of whom 3 had recurrence of dysphagia within 1 month post-treatment. Office-based transnasal balloon dilation is a feasible and safe in-office procedure which is well-tolerated by patients. The dilations can improve dysphagia, although effects might be transient.

In clinical practice, laryngo(strobo)scopy (LS) is still mainly used for diagnostics and management of unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UFVP), although only laryngeal electromyography (LEMG) can provide informationon causes of vocal fold immobility, especially on possible synkinetic reinnervation after recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) injury. The goal of this retrospective study was the evaluation whether signs of synkinetic reinnervation in LS can be objectified in comparison to LEMG data.

Between 1/2015 and 2/2018, 50 patients with laryngostroboscopically suspected UVFP received routine LEMG examination. The LEMG findings were retrospectively compared with LS findings. The LEMG data analysis focused on the diagnosis of synkinetic reinnervation of the TA/LCA and/or PCA. The digital LS recordings were retrospectively re-evaluated by phoniatricians considering 22 selected laryngostroboscopic parameters.

LEMG revealed synkinesis in 23 (46%) and absence of synkinesis in 27 (54%) patients. None of the 22 parameters showed significant association between patients with synkinetic reinnervation and LS findings.
