World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

The upgrade of items is a crucial element of enhancing your character. Upgrades boost the base damage and enhancements of items.

They also offer bonus effects and improvements. They are available by contacting the Blacksmith.

The upgrade button is available on any item. Each recycled item adds one level to the upgrade gauge.

Weapon

When the weapon is upgraded it will gain a base damage bonus as well as an increase in the scaling factor that affects other stats. The weapon could also gain a number of upgrade components that provide additional features or effects as well as unique cosmetic effects. These upgrades can be added to armors, weapons trinkets, gathering tools and trinkets. They generally require that the item is equipped with an upgrade slot and meet certain requirements. When a weapon or armor piece is equipped with an upgrade component it, it is able to be replaced with another, but the prior upgrade will be destroyed (except for legendary equipment and upgrades). Upgrade components can be retrieved by using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, Ascended Salvage tool, or a high-tier salvaging tool for an item.

A weapon can also be upgraded to include a Calibration attribute that boosts certain stats, such as Weakspot damage or Crit Rate. This is done via the Gear Workbench's interaction menu. Based on the level of the weapon it can be done up to four times.

Once the weapon has reached its maximum level of upgrade, it can then be rebuilt to add additional bonuses and effects, or to improve specific stats. Several of these upgrades can be used simultaneously, and the effects differ based on the nature of the weapon.

Two Blacksmiths can be upgraded in the game: Blacksmith Iji on the Road to the Manor Site of Grace and Smithing Master Hewg at the Church of Elleh hub. The upgrade materials are both different: Smithing Stones to modify the type of damage that weapons deal and Somber Smithing Stones to alter the standard weapons.

It is generally recommended to increase the damage of your weapon first, followed by armour defense, and then the other secondary stats that are required by your build. In particular, it's common to see melee druids enhancing their weapon before they upgrade any other gear, since this will increase DPS. This is especially applicable to enchantments, which can be extremely effective in boosting the weapon's damage and other stats.

Contrary to what many believe, armor is not useless in The Division 2. The fact of the matter is that some armors provide significant boosts to poison or curse, fire or magic damage reduction, which makes them extremely useful for specific builds. Additionally, there are ways to improve armor stats beyond the use of upgradeable armor, such as the engineer trait to boost armor penetration or the challenger trait to reduce the weight of the entire armor.
