Line-up

Turn Back, the band's third studio album is a return to a classic sextet format and it was a more consistent, more powerful effort with a harder edge. The more edgy sound of the album reflected the maturation of the group and featured drummer Bobby Kimball's increased ability on the drums and a more confident, mature vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard skills were also more sophisticated, sharper, and less derivative on previous recordings.

After touring to promote their album, the band recorded an Amsterdam live performance which was released on Eagle Records as a 2-CD set entitled Falling In Between. The group released a new studio album a few months later and embarked on a tour around the world to support the album. During this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began exploring old tapes and demos to discover songs that had never been recorded prior to. The album was released in 2001 and released as a double album called Then and Now. It was the first album by the band without one single track titled "A". By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity.
