Healthcare inequalities and ethnicity are closely related. Evidence has demonstrated that patients from ethnic minority groups are more likely to report a long-term illness than their white counterparts; yet, in some cases, minority groups have reported poorer adherence to prescribed medicines and may be less likely to access medicine services. Knowledge of the barriers and facilitators that impact ethnic minority access to medicine services is required to ensure that services are fit for purpose to meet and support the needs of all.

Semistructured interviews with healthcare professionals were conducted between October and December 2020, using telephone and video call-based software. Perspectives on barriers and facilitators were discussed. Interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Reflexive thematic analysis enabled the development of themes. This study aimed to identify the core content and design issues in developing an online training course in the effective use of music for people with dementia.

A co-design approach was taken in which focus groups were conducted with aged care staff and family caregivers (n=17; 76.5% female). A general inductive approach was taken to data analysis. The consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research (COREQ) guidelines were followed to ensure rigour in this study.

Participants identified five core concepts for inclusion in the training program including the benefits of music, the need to assess for vulnerability to negative responses, music selection strategies, timing of use and equipment selection. Themes on design and implementation such as the need for role-specific content for care staff at all levels and scenario-based learning were identified.

The development of online training in music use for carers of people with dementia needs to consider the demands on carers and develop training that is informative and engaging without placing large time demands on the user. Support at a management and executive level will be important to the implementation of such training in residential aged care contexts.

This work, via 16S rRNA gene diversity survey and 16S rRNA quantification, found abundant Ca. Methanoperedens along with iron in the cold Zoige wetland at Tibetan Plateau. The wetland soil microcosm performed Fe(III) reduction, rather than nitrate- nor sulphate-reduction, coupled methane oxidation (3.87 μmol d-1 ) with 32.33 μmol Fe(II) accumulation per day at 18°C, but not at 30°C. A metagenome-assembled genome (MAG) recovered from the microcosm exhibits ~74% average nucleotide identity with the reported Ca. Previous studies showed an impact of gliomas not only on local brain regions but also on the functionality and structure of brain networks. The current study used navigated transcranial magnetic stimulation (nTMS) to localize language-related regions and to explore language function at the network level in combination with connectome analysis. Thirty glioma patients without aphasia (NA) and 30 patients with GIA were prospectively enrolled. Tumors were located in the vicinity of arcuate fasciculus-related cortical and subcortical regions. The visualized ratio (VR) of each tract was calculated based on their respective fractional anisotropy (FA) and maximal FA. Using a thresholding method of each tract at 25% VR and 50% VR, DTI-based tractography was performed to construct structural brain networks for graph-based connectome analysis, containing functional data acquired by nTMS. The average degree of left hemispheric networks (Mleft ) was higher in the NA group than in the GIA group for both VR thresholds. Differences of global and local efficiency between 25% and 50% VR thresholds were significantly lower in the NA group than in the GIA group. Aphasia levels correlated with connectome properties in Mleft and networks based on positive nTMS mapping regions (Mpos ). In this study, the pollen morphology of 43 samples of 27 species, 4 subspecies, and 4 varieties of the genus Sophora and 3 closely related genera was examined using scanning electron microscopy to evaluate the pollen diversity of the genus and its taxonomic significance. Pollen grains of the studied species were tricolporate (rarely six-aperture), and pollen shape varied from suboblate, spheroidal, subprolate to prolate. Echinate external ornamentation was reported for the first time in some species of the genus. Aperture membrane ornamentation and outline in a polar/equatorial view were described for the first time in the genus. Principal component analysis was used to understand the relationship and discrimination between the species and the genera, with six components accounting for 79.92% of the total variance. Taxonomic keys based on pollen morphology were also constructed to easily identify the taxa of the genus through palynological characteristics. Results showed that pollen morphology alone is not sufficient to elucidate or reconstruct taxonomic relationships within the genus Sophora, but palynological assessments can provide some useful information for identifying taxonomically problematic taxa.

To better characterize the histopathology of oral lichen planus and oral lichenoid lesions and to highlight the differences between them in order to support the clinician in the diagnostic and therapeutic management of such conditions.

Fifty-five patients, clinically diagnosed with oral lichen planus (n = 25) or oral lichenoid lesions (n = 30), were consecutively enrolled in the present study. Subsequently, one blind pathologist reviewed all the biopsy specimens of enrolled subjects following a specific protocol to provide a detailed histopathological description. Demographic, anamnestic, and clinical data were also recorded from all the participants. Patients' data were analysed and compared using the chi-squared test, to provide distinguishing features between the studied conditions.

We found a higher and statistically significant number of eosinophils in the oral lichenoid lesions compared with the oral lichen planus group (p < 0.01), an equally promising result was seen regarding plasma cells, which were more represented (p = 0.05) in the oral lichenoid lesions than in the oral lichen planus cases. No statistically significant differences were detected in demographic, anamnestic and clinical data.

Four nonlactating cows with a rumen cannula were assigned to two treatments in a crossover design. Treatments were ruminal administration of sodium-butyrate (BUT) or control (CON). Sodium-butyrate was provided as Gustor BP70 and administered at a butyrate dose of 0.04% per kg body weight. The CON premix was made by replacing sodium-butyrate with wheat bran. Experimental periods were 28 days long with 21-day washout period separating the treatments. On Day 25 of each period, corn starch was ruminally administered at 0.7% per kg body weight as RA challenge. After RA challenge, ruminal pH was lower, and endotoxin concentration was higher for cows provided with BUT than those with CON, but the increase in fecal starch and the decrease in fecal pH were attenuated by BUT. The effect of butyrate supplementation on serum lipopolysaccharide-binding protein after RA challenge was not found.
