The effects induced by microwave field upon tungsten wires of different diameters were investigated. Tungsten wires with 0.5 and 1.0 mm diameters were placed in the focal point of a single-mode cylindrical cavity linked to a microwave generator and exposed to microwave field in ambient air. CYT387 The experimental results showed that the 0.5 mm diameter wire was completely vaporized due to microwaves strong absorption, while the wire with 1 mm diameter was not ignited. During the interaction between microwaves and tungsten wire with 0.5 mm diameter, a plasma with a high electronic excitation temperature was obtained. The theoretical analysis of the experiment showed that the voltage generated by metallic wires in interaction with microwaves depended on their electric resistance in AC and the power of the microwave field. This new and simple method to generate a high-temperature plasma from a metallic wire could have many applications, especially in metal oxides synthesis, metal coatings, or thin film deposition.During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, many guidelines have recommended postponing non-emergency operations. However, cesarean sections cannot be indefinitely delayed. Our institution has established a COVID-19 screening strategy for patients undergoing cesarean section. We evaluated the usefulness of this screening strategy. Parturients undergoing cesarean section at our center during the first peak of the COVID-19 outbreak were retrospectively analyzed. Each parturient underwent a questionnaire survey evaluating epidemiological correlation and symptoms at admission. Reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing and/or chest radiography were performed. In total, 296 parturients underwent cesarean section. All elective and 37 emergency cesarean sections were performed in general operating rooms because they were considered to have a low risk of COVID-19 infection through the screening process. However, 42 emergency cases were performed in negative-pressure operating rooms with full personal protective equipment (PPE) because the RT-PCR results could not be confirmed in a timely manner. None of them were positive for RT-PCR, and there were no cases of nosocomial infection. A comprehensive preoperative screening strategy, including symptomatic and epidemiological correlation, PCR, and/or imaging test, should be performed in patients undergoing cesarian section. Further, cesarean sections in parturients with unconfirmed COVID-19 status should be performed in a negative-pressure operating room with appropriate PPE.A screen printing process was used to substitute dry molding to solve the uneven compaction problem in the coil center column during molding in this study. FeSiCr alloy powders (FSC) with a large particle size were mixed with fine spherical carbonyl iron powder to increase the compaction density. Many factors are known to influence nonadherence, but little is known about the influence of quality of life (QoL). Detailed clinical data were obtained from 164 patients with PD using the Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire-39 (PDQ-39) and the German Stendal Adherence with Medication Score (SAMS). Descriptive statistics were used to identify reasons for nonadherence, and multivariable linear models were used to study associations between QoL and clinical parameters as well as nonadherence. Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) and multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) were used to study the effect of the SAMS on PDQ domains and other medical covariates. The results showed that 10.4% (n = 17) of patients were fully adherent, 66.4% (n = 109) were moderately nonadherent, and 23.2% (n = 38) were nonadherent. Nonadherence was associated with male gender, lower Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) score, higher non-motor symptoms questionnaire (NMS-Quest) score, greater number of medications per day (an indicator of comorbidity), and higher Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) score. QoL was correlated with male gender, lower MoCA score, higher NMS-Quest score, more comorbidities, and higher BDI score, but was not correlated with nonadherence.Autonomous driving helps drivers avoid paying attention to keeping to a lane or keeping a distance from the vehicle ahead. In this sense, automated valet parking (AVP) system is one of the promising technologies for enabling drivers to free themselves from the burden of parking. Nevertheless, the driver must continuously monitor the automated system in the current automation level. The main reason for monitoring the automation system is due to the limited sensor range and occlusions. For safety reasons, the current field of view must be taken into account, as well as to ensure comfort and to avoid unexpected and harsh reactions. Unfortunately, due to parked vehicles and structures, the field of view in a parking lot is not sufficient for considering new obstacles coming out of occluded areas. To solve this problem, we propose a method that estimates the risks for unobservable obstacles by considering worst-case assumptions.
