Insufficient oral intake in advanced gastric cancer (AGC) limits the use of several drugs. We aimed to determine the oral intake status of patients with AGC during later-line chemotherapy.

We retrospectively evaluated data of patients with AGC who experienced disease progression during first-line chemotherapy administered from January 2012 to December 2018 in a single institution. We defined "insufficient oral intake" as requiring daily intravenous fluids or hyperalimentation. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to identify oral intake-related factors.

Among 589 included patients, at disease progression during first-line, second-line, and third-line chemotherapy, 78.3% (461), 53.3% (314), and 30.4% (179) of patients, respectively, exhibited sufficient oral intake. Fourth-line chemotherapy was initiated for 22.2% (131) of patients, with 20.0% (118) exhibiting sufficient oral intake. During second-line and third-line chemotherapy, 11/67 (16%) and 2/39 (5%) patients, respectively, exhibited imprake.

Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a malignant vascular neoplasm representing ∼1% of sarcomas. Due to its rarity, its clinical course is not well characterized and optimal treatment remains unknown.

This was a retrospective review of patients with EHE treated at Stanford University between 1998 and 2020. Demographic characteristics, pathology results, treatment modalities, and clinical outcomes were collected from the electronic medical records.

A total of 58 patients had a mean age of 50.6 years and a slight female predominance (52%). Primary disease sites were liver (33%), soft tissue (29%), lung (14%), bone (9%), and mediastinum (9%). A majority (55%) had advanced or metastatic disease. Median overall survival (OS) was 16.9 years, with OS 89% at 1 year, 68% at 5 years, and 64% at 10 years. The longest median OS was associated with soft tissue sites and shortest with lung and mediastinal disease (P=0.03). The localized disease had improved median OS compared with metastatic disease (P=0.02). There was no OS difference between tumors >3 cm and those equal or smaller (P=0.85). Surgery was a common treatment (71%), while radiation and ablation were sometimes used (28% and 9%, respectively). The median time to initiating therapy of any kind was 68 days. The median time to systemic therapy was 114 days.

We report on the clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients with EHE at a large academic center. Treatment options included surgical excision, liver transplant, ablation, radiation, and systemic therapy. A subset of patients had indolent disease not requiring treatment upfront.

Ranitidine has been shown to contain the carcinogen N-nitrosodimethylamine and increase urinary N-nitrosodimethylamine in humans. We investigated whether ranitidine use is associated with increased bladder cancer risk.

A nested case-control study was conducted within the Primary Care Clinical Informatics Unit Research database which contains general practice records from Scotland. Bladder cancer cases, diagnosed between 1999 and 2011, were identified and matched with up to 5 controls (based on age, sex, general practice, and date of registration). Ranitidine, other histamine-2 receptor agonists, and proton pump inhibitors were identified from prescribing records. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using conditional logistic regression after adjusting for comorbidities and smoking.

There were 3,260 cases and 14,037 controls. There was evidence of an increased risk of bladder cancer in ranitidine users, compared with nonusers (fully adjusted OR = 1.22; 95% CI 1.06-1.40), which was more marked with use for over 3 years of ranitidine (fully adjusted OR = 1.43; 95% CI 1.05-1.94). By contrast, there was little evidence of any association between proton pump inhibitor use and bladder cancer risk based on any use (fully adjusted OR = 0.98; 95% CI 0.88-1.11) or over 3 years of use (fully adjusted OR = 0.98; 95% CI 0.80-1.20).

In this large population-based study, the use of ranitidine particularly long-term use was associated with an increased risk of bladder cancer. Further studies are necessary to attempt to replicate this finding in other settings.

Condylar guidance can be determined using the clinical and radiographic methods. The present study was conducted to determine condylar guidance using the protrusive interocclusal wax method, panoramic radiographs, and lateral cephalogram.

The aim of the study was to compare the correlation between sagittal condylar guidance with protrusive interocclusal method, panoramic radiographs, and lateral cephalogram.

The present study was conducted on 82 dentulous subjects (males 41, females 41). In all subjects, interocclusal registration values and condylar guidance values were measured using panoramic radiographs and lateral cephalograms.

The mean ± SD protrusive interocclusal registration value on the left side was 34.01 ± 1.2 mm and 34.08 ± 1.4 mm on the right side. The panoramic radiographs showed 35.12 ± 1.6 mm on the left side and 35.16 ± 1.7 mm on the right side. The mean ± SD protrusive interocclusal registration values on the left side was 34.01 ± 1.2 mm on the left side and 34.08 ± 1.4 mm on the right side. Lateral cephalogram showed 34.35 ± 1.3 mm on the left side and 34.67 ± 1.6 mm on the right side. selleck chemicals There was a significant difference between the methods (

< 0.05).

Sagittal condylar guidance can be evaluated using protrusive interocclusal method. Along with it, other methods such as panoramic radiographs and lateral cephalogram may also be used for recording condylar guidance.

Lateral cephalogram and panoramic radiographs may be reliable in determining condylar guidance, which can be used in orthodontic treatment planning.
