This in vitro study showed for the first time that partial laminate veneers can exhibit fracture strength values similar to direct composite restorations or conventional ceramic laminate veneers. All three restorative procedures presented clinically acceptable values of fracture strength. Even though three samples from groups PLV and three from DCR presented small cracks after thermocycling, these cracks do not appear to have a negative effect on the fracture strength.
To determine the psychometric properties of the Spanish version of the Jeffries questionnaire to assess perception, satisfaction and learning results in Clinical Simulation (QJSC) for students of Health Science degrees.
For the transcultural adaptation to the Spanish language of the QJSC questionnaire, the inverse method was applied with a back translation. Internal consistency analysis was performed to assess reliability, analysed with Cronbach's alpha, a value between 0.90 and 0.95 was considered acceptable. To establish the content validity, a factor analysis was performed, only items with factor saturations greater than 0.60 were considered for interpretation. Statistical analyses were performed with the SPSS 19 programme. The administration of the questionnaire was carried out in 10 to 12 clinical simulation training sessions according to the subject programme with 10 to 12 students per session, for high-fidelity clinical simulation between 2017 and 2018, in a sample of 443 undergraduate students of for the Spanish version of the QJSC indicates that it is an adequate tool to evaluate the perception, satisfaction and learning outcomes of students in this teaching and learning methodology.Biologically active glutathione (GSH) conjugates of oxygenated fatty acids comprise a group of pro- and anti-inflammatory lipid mediators. While arachidonic acid (AA)-derived conjugates, as the cysteinyl leukotrienes (cys-LTs) and eoxins (EXs) have pro-inflammatory properties, conjugates in tissue regeneration (CTRs) biosynthesized from docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) exhibit pro-resolving activity. Human platelets express abundant amounts of platelet-type 12-lipoxygenase (pt12-LOX) and leukotriene C4 synthase (LTC4S). However, the only two described GSH conjugates formed by platelets are the AA-derived cys-LTs and the recently reported maresin CTRs (MCTRs). While cys-LTs are biosynthesized in a transcellular mechanism via the action of 5-LOX and LTC4S, MCTR1 is formed by 12-LOX and a yet unidentified GSH S-transferase (GST). Here, we present a novel GSH conjugate formed from AA via the 12-LOX pathway in human platelets. The 12-oxo-glutathione adduct, 12-oxo-10-glutathionyl-5,8,14-eicosatrienoic acid (TOG10), was identified by mass spectrometry using positive electrospray ionization. The structural proposal is supported by fragmentation data of the labeled metabolite obtained after incubation of deuterated AA (AA-d8). In platelets as well as in HEK293 cells stably expressing pt12-LOX, TOG10 biosynthesis was inhibited by the 12-LOX inhibitor ML-355 (5 μM), which confirms the involvement of pt12-LOX. Interestingly, TOG10 was formed independently of LTC4S in platelets. This is in accordance with the observation that the conjugate was also generated by AA-stimulated HEK_12-LOX cells in absence of LTC4S. Nevertheless, TOG10 can also be formed by LTC4S as the biosynthesis in HEK_12-LOX_LTC4S cells was reduced by the specific LTC4S inhibitor TK04a. In summary, TOG10 was identified as a new AA-derived GSH conjugate generated in human platelets via the action of pt12-LOX in combination with a GST.The retina continuously receives light to enable vision, and the related processes require a marked amount of energy. During active metabolism, reactive oxygen species (ROS) are generated in exchange. Although physiologically generated ROS may be removed by endogenous antioxidant systems, and the effects of oxidative stress may be recovered by repair systems to retain homeostasis and health, when ROS and oxidative stress exceed the capacity of the antioxidant and repair systems, the condition becomes pathological. Multiple mechanisms of oxidative stress and the effects of antioxidant and repair systems in the retina have long been analyzed using light-induced retinal degeneration models. Among the mechanisms, a positive feedback loop of oxidative stress and related inflammation may be involved in the pathogenesis of a blinding aging disease, age-related macular degeneration. Treatments for suppressing ROS and oxidative stress by administrating antioxidant products may support the tissue-protective function of antioxidant systems. Moreover, recent studies have proposed a new concept for maintaining homeostasis by supplying sufficient energy to activate the repair systems. The current review will help elucidate the influence of oxidative stress and guide future analyses to explore new therapeutic approaches for oxidative stress-mediated diseases.
Two-dimensional shear-wave elastography (2D-SWE) assessment of liver stiffness has the advantage of being obtained during conventional ultrasound. Liver-stiffness values on 2D-SWE for grafted livers are unknown, as are their potential link to post-transplantation morbidity. This study was undertaken to determine liver-stiffness values on 2D-SWE for grafted livers without complications, and examine relationships between liver-stiffness values on 2D-SWE and early post-operative arterial or biliary complications.
In our facility, all liver-transplant recipients are entered in a comprehensive surgical database, where donor, procedure and recipient characteristics are described. All patients underwent systematic 2D-SWE assessment. Potential relationships were analyzed between liver-stiffness findings and donor, procedure and recipient characteristics, and follow-up events, including death, arterial or biliary complications, graft removal and allograft-dysfunction scores.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the item concerning physical activity of the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) asthma control questionnaire for detection of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) in children and adolescents.
We divided participants (aged 6 to 18 years) with a diagnosis of asthma into two groups according to the GINA severity classification mild/moderate asthma (MMA) and severe therapy-resistant asthma (STRA). We collected anthropometric, clinical and functional data (spirometry) and performed an EIB test. We used item 4 of the GINA questionnaire regarding exercise-induced symptoms to assess the diagnostic power of this instrument.
We included 40 patients (17 with MMA and 23 with STRA) with a mean age of 11.3 years and a mean FEV
z-score of -0.33, of who 13 (32.5%) were classified as having uncontrolled asthma. Of the patients with uncontrolled asthma, 7 (53.8%) exhibited a decrease in the FEV
after the EIB test. We found a higher frequency of EIB in participants with FEV
z-score values of less than -1.0 compared to those with a z-score of -1.0 or greater (p = 0.05). There were no significant differences in the frequency of EIB based on disease severity and control. We also found no association of item 4 (GINA) with EIB. The area under the ROC curve demonstrated that the discriminative power of the GINA questionnaire for the detection of EIB is inadequate (p = 0.41), with sensitivity of 42.1% and specificity of 57.1%.

Improvement of our knowledge in this field could lead to better development of animal models for both pedagogical purposes and surgical experimentation. The objective of this comparative study was to describe the descriptive anatomy of the inferior epigastric, subscapular and internal thoracic pedicles in three domestic mammals commonly used as animal models for experimentation. Our study focuses on the anatomical description of these vascular pedicles in the rat (Rattus norvegicus) (n=1), the rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) (n=1) and the pig (Sus scrofa domesticus) (n=1). A comparative and analytical study of these vessels (origin, path, caliber, termination) with those of humans was carried out. The superficial inferior epigastric vascular pedicles have been identified only in rats and pigs. The deep inferior epigastric, subscapular and internal thoracic pedicles were identified in the three mammals studied. No perforator vessels for the subcutaneous tissue and skin were identify from the deep inferior epigastric pedicles. The anatomical characteristics (origin, path, termination) of these vascular pedicles in rabbits seems to be the closest to that of humans. However the caliber of these vessels is around a millimeter compared to a 2.0-3.0mm in humans. This comparative study allowed us to identify and better characterize the morphological characteristics of these vascular pedicles in three domestic mammals, a step prior improving the development of animal models intended for pedagogical or experimental purposes in the field of microsurgical free flaps.Long term survival of animals with major congenital anomalies is very rare. This report documents the 18-month survival of a dog with multiple anomalies including atresia ani. An 18-month-old black Cocker Spaniel bitch was presented for evaluation of prolapsed glands of the third eyelid involving both the eyes. Clinical examination revealed a single perineal opening, fecal matter in the vestibule, distended abdomen, hypoplastic vulva, and the absence of a tail without any neurological deficits. Abdominal contrast radiography revealed a distended colon with fecal stasis, rectovestibular fistula, termination of the rectum as a blind pouch, lumbar scoliosis due to block vertebrae, and the presence of only two hypoplastic coccygeal vertebrae. The case was diagnosed as atresia ani type II with rectovestibular fistula, hypoplastic vulva, lumbar scoliosis, and anury, in the global context of a caudal regression syndrome. The wide aperture fistula, connected to the vestibule, undamaged spinal cord and sacrum without any neurological deficits were the favorable prognostic factors that maintained continence and allowed the dog to survive to adult life with these anomalies. Thus, an appropriate bowel management program and specialty care can improve the quality of life and longevity of this animal.

The study was carried out using a multi-detector scanner (SIEMENS Somatom Emotion Excel Edition, 16 bars). The two-dimensional and three-dimensional reconstructions by volume were made with the OSIRIX software. It was a retrospective study. The study had taken into account the result of the abdominal scanners injected carried out from December 15, 2018 to February 15, 2019 i.e. 14 months (1 year 2 months).
A predominance of type I of UFLACKER is 93.50% with a rate of change from normal of 6.50%. A vertebral projection of the origin of the celiac trunk at the level of the T12-L1 intervertebral disc was observed in 52.80%. An existence of collateral branches in 7.5% of cases. Other terminal branches apart from the three classics were found in 8.5% of the cases.
These variants deserve special attention in the case of a pre-therapeutic vascular assessment for the surgical or interventional management of tumors and trauma of the supra-meso-colic viscera or even for organ transplantation.
