The feed conversion ratio (FCR) of the birds on legume pastures was lower than those without access to pasture. The birds of SH, SG and MP spent higher (p ˂ .05) time drinking, preening, dust-bathing, spot pecking and walking standing behaviours while those in DL and FR spent more (p ˂ .05) time feeding. Generally, the gait score of the birds on the different legume pastures was similar but better than those without access to pasture. Tonic immobility of the DL birds was longer than that of FR whose duration was longer than those of the birds on the pastures. The study concluded that access to different legume pastures, particularly Stylosanthes hamata, improved the welfare of broiler chickens without adverse effect on the performance of the birds. To ensure the long-term success of dental implants, a functional attachment of the soft tissue to the surface of the implant abutment is decisively important in order to prevent the penetration of bacteria into the implant-bone interface, which can trigger peri-implant disease. Here a surface modification approach is described that includes the covalent immobilization of the extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins fibronectin and laminin via a crosslinker to silanized Ti6Al4V and Y-TZP surfaces. The surface properties are evaluated using static contact angle, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The interaction of human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs) with the immobilized ECM proteins is verified by analyzing the localization of focal contacts, cell area, cell morphology, proliferation rate, and integrin expression. It is observed in the presence of fibronectin and laminin an increased cellular attachment, proliferation, and integrin expression of HGFs accompanied by a significantly higher number of focal adhesions. The presented approach holds great potential to enable a stronger bond between soft tissue and implant abutment surface. This could potentially help to prevent the penetration of bacteria in an in vivo application and thus reduce the risk of periimplant disease.Social skills group interventions are increasing popular for children with social communication disorders but there is little evidence of their acceptability or effectiveness when delivered online. Acetylcysteine datasheet We report a feasibility study that adapted the Program for Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS) to provide an intensive 8 week online delivery to female adolescents, blended with some face-to-face group meetings. A systematic multiple-case series design with case tracking was developed, comprising a 3-month baseline, a 2-month intervention and a 3-month follow-up period. Seven adolescents with Turner Syndrome and social communication difficulties (17-20 years) took part, together with their parents. Acceptability and feasibility were assessed by means of qualitative feedback and attendance rates. Changes in social adaptation were tracked using measures of social knowledge, social behaviour and autistic symptoms, plus anxiety and self-esteem. Attendance rates were consistently high and there were noeptable to families and has a positive and significant impact on participant's social performance and social knowledge. This new treatment approach may increase the accessibility of treatment for adolescents and young adults, especially those with social communication difficulties. Acute respiratory infections (ARI) are associated with a huge morbidity and mortality worldwide. Rhinoviruses (RVs) and Enteroviruses (EVs) are recognized as leading causes of ARI.

The present study describes the molecular epidemiology of RVs and EVs in Cameroon over a 3-year surveillance period.

From September 2011 to October 2014, nasopharyngeal swabs were collected from patients with influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI). Two sub-genomic regions of the EVs and RVs were targeted for molecular characterization. These included the most conserved 5'-untranslated region (5'UTR) and the viral protein 4/viral protein 2 transition region (VP4/VP2).

A total of 974 samples were collected. Children ≤5years accounted for 85.7% (835/974) of all participants. Among them, 160 (16.4%) were positive for RVs and/or EVs. RVs and/or EVs were significantly more identified in ILI compared to SARI patients (P=.015). Both viruses co-circulated all year long with a marked increase of occurrence during rainy and cold season. All RV species were found to circulate in Cameroon, with 6, 10 and 6 virus types belonging to the RV-A, RV-B and RV-C, respectively. EV species identified comprised EV-A (1 Coxsackie virus A5), EV-B (1 Coxsackie virus A9 and 2 Coxsackie virus B1) and EV-C (1 EV-C117).

This study indicates a strong year-round occurrence of EV and RV associated respiratory infections in Cameroon. Molecular characterization identified a wide variety of RVs and EVs in patients with ARI in Cameroon.

Self-management programs have demonstrated significant health benefits in people with musculoskeletal diseases.

To examine the benefits of a tailored ankylosing spondylitis self-management program (ASSMP) delivered by trained health professionals for people with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) relative to health status, quality of life and disease activity.

ASSMP was developed within a continuous quality improvement framework following a needs assessment and focus group discussions. Formal feedback from the group after each 6week program cycle group by questionnaire helped refine the ASSMP. Patient health status, quality of life and disease activity were assessed at multiple time points up to 12months.

Fifty-five percent were female; mean age 48.5±15.2years. Median time to AS diagnosis was 4years (interquartile range 1-10). AS disease activity Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Global Score scores improved at 3, 6 and 12months (P<.001). Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index improved at 6weeks and was sustained at 3, 6 and 12months (P<.
