Electrocoagulation technology is being increasingly used to treat various types of wastewater over the last several years. This study aimed to investigate the industrial wastewater treatment of a fruit juice factory as an example of food processing industries in New Damietta City, Egypt, by using electrocoagulation technology. This is to solve an environmental problem, represented in the high organic load of these effluents. The electrocoagulation treatment processes were examined by using two electrodes of aluminum (Al) and two electrodes of stainless-steel (SS) and also by using Al as an anode and SS as a cathode. In addition, treatment by alum coagulation was investigated. Results showed that electrocoagulation was more effective than alum coagulation. The use of two combined electrodes of Al as an anode and SS as a cathode resulted in an 83.78% COD removal efficiency, while the use of the alum coagulant yielded 57.57%. Furthermore, total operating cost was calculated, and the amount of hydrogen gas as a subsequent energy alternative was theoretically determined in order to solve the process' power problem.

In the present study, we sought to identify causal relationships between obesity and other complex traits and conditions using a data-driven hypothesis-free approach that uses genetic data to infer causal associations.

We leveraged available summary-based genetic data from genome-wide association studies on 1498 phenotypes and applied the latent causal variable method (LCV) between obesity and all traits.

We identified 110 traits causally associated with obesity. Of those, 109 were causal outcomes of obesity, while only leg pain in calves was a causal determinant of obesity. selleck chemicals llc Causal outcomes of obesity included 26 phenotypes associated with cardiovascular diseases, 22 anthropometric measurements, nine with the musculoskeletal system, nine with behavioural or lifestyle factors including loneliness or isolation, six with respiratory diseases, five with body bioelectric impedances, four with psychiatric phenotypes, four related to the nervous system, four with disabilities or long-standing illness, three with the gastrointestinal system, three with use of analgesics, two with metabolic diseases, one with inflammatory response and one with the neurodevelopmental disorder ADHD, among others. In particular, some causal outcomes of obesity included hypertension, stroke, ever having a period of extreme irritability, low forced vital capacity and forced expiratory volume, diseases of the musculoskeletal system, diabetes, carpal tunnel syndrome, loneliness or isolation, high leukocyte count, and ADHD.

Our results indicate that obesity causally affects a wide range of traits and comorbid diseases, thus providing an overview of the metabolic, physiological, and neuropsychiatric impact of obesity on human health.

A broad knowledge of differential diagnoses including rare pathologies like urethral prolapse and failure of the midline fusion of the perineum, known as perineal groove, is essential in order to avoid unnecessary diagnostics and treatment, prejudgment, and to reduce patient family's anxiety. We report two independent cases of girls aged 7 months and 5 years suffering from these rare pathologies, one presenting with painless lower genital tract bleeding, the other showing a lesion of the perineum as random finding during a neuropediatrician's consultation. In both cases, the pathologies were initially misdiagnosed as injuries due to sexual assault, and judicial investigation procedures were initiated. In this paper, the characteristic symptoms and morphology of urethral prolapse and perineal groove are presented to enhance the awareness of these pathologies among forensic experts and help to establish the correct diagnosis.

Burnout among health care workers may hamper the quality of care and effectiveness of health systems. Hence, we examined the prevalence of burnout in primary care teams, including community health workers; and investigated associations between individuals' characteristics, team and primary care center factors, and burnout.

We carried out a cross-sectional study among primary care teams in the city of São Paulo, Brazil (n = 2940). We randomly selected 66 primary care centers. The Maslach burnout inventory was used to investigate burnout. We used multilevel modelling to examine the associations between individuals' characteristics, team and primary care center variables with burnout.

We addressed 351 primary care teams, with 11.4% of participants presenting severe burnout. The variance in burnout among primary care workers was partially explained by individuals' characteristics, and by team and primary care center factors. Severe burnout was associated with the following (1) individuals' characteristics bs according to each community's vulnerability; (3) provide a multidisciplinary team to support primary care workers; and (4) offer suitable facilities and infra-structure.Drought stress-induced crop loss has been considerably increased in recent years because of global warming and changing rainfall pattern. Natural drought-tolerant plants entail the recruitment of a variety of metabolites and low molecular weight proteins to negate the detrimental effects of drought stress. Dehydrin (DHN) proteins are one such class of proteins that accumulate in plants during drought and associated stress conditions. These proteins are highly hydrophilic and perform multifaceted roles in the protection of plant cells during drought stress conditions. Evidence gathered over the years suggests that DHN proteins impart drought stress tolerance by enhancing the water retention capacity, elevating chlorophyll content, maintaining photosynthetic machinery, activating ROS detoxification, and promoting the accumulation of compatible solutes, among others. Overexpression studies have indicated that these proteins can be effectively targeted to mitigate the negative effects of drought stress and for the development of drought stress-tolerant crops to feed the ever-growing population in the near future.
