The extremely rapid spread of the SARS-CoV-2 has already resulted in more than 1 million reported deaths of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The ability of infectious particles to persist on environmental surfaces is potentially considered a factor for viral spreading. Therefore, limiting viral diffusion in public environments should be achieved with correct disinfection of objects, tissues, and clothes. This study proves how two widespread disinfection systems, short-wavelength ultraviolet light (UV-C) and ozone (O3), are active in vitro on different commonly used materials. The development of devices equipped with UV-C, or ozone generators, may prevent the virus from spreading in public places.Cannabis legalization threatens to undermine clean indoor air norms. We investigated the prevalence and nature of tobacco and cannabis use rules in Airbnb venues in Denver, Colorado, where recreational cannabis was legalized in 2014. The study used publicly available Inside Airbnb data for all Denver listings (N = 4,511) collected on 06/29/2019. We analyzed reported tobacco smoking and cannabis use house rules. Tobacco smoking with or without conditions was allowed in 9.7% of venues. Of all venues, 23.7% included details about cannabis use. Of these, 75.9% allowed cannabis use without or with conditions. Of the venues that allowed cannabis use, 30.5% also allowed tobacco smoking. Of the venues that did not allow cannabis use, 0.4% allowed tobacco smoking. Additional multilevel regression models revealed that venues in higher income neighborhoods were less likely to allow cannabis and tobacco use. A substantial number of Airbnb listings in Denver, Colorado permit cannabis use and venues permitting cannabis use may be more likely to also permit tobacco smoking. Findings support the idea that cannabis legalization threatens clean indoor air norms. Airbnb should consider including cannabis use in house rules in jurisdictions that have legalized cannabis to help guests identify spaces with clean air.Despite the closet's centrality to queer culture and theory, the metaphor's various meanings have yet to be disaggregated and defined. Following Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick's identification of the closet with a "crisis of homo/heterosexual definition, indicatively male, dating from the end of the nineteenth century," the present article uses an array of late-Victorian sources-especially The Memoirs of John Addington Symonds and Teleny, a pornographic novel sometimes attributed to Oscar Wilde-to describe and distinguish (1) so-called latent homosexuality ("the unconscious closet"); (2) deliberate strategies of suppression, abstention, and reformation ("the conscious closet"); (3) clandestine pursuits of gay sex and sociability ("the double life"); and (4) performances of a heterosexual persona ("the mask"). This article's sources further attest to the late-Victorian advent of "closet consciousness"-a recognition among certain homosexually-inclined men that the closet's multiple modalities, for all their variety, are phenomenologically and ideologically linked.

Conventional anti-inflammatory drugs are associated with serious adverse effects which bring about an ever-increasing demand to supersede them with natural and safe anti-inflammatory agents. Hence, the prime objective of this study was to evaluate the anti- inflammatory potential of an underutilized culinary spice "

".

To assess anti-inflammatory activity of MEAS, acute and chronic inflammation studies were carried out in carrageenan and formalin induced mice paw edema models respectively. Paw volume was measured by vernier caliper. Status of antioxidant enzymes and oxidative stress markers were determined in paw tissue homogenates following standard protocols. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry analysis of paw tissue samples were also performed. Levels of proinflammatory cytokines in serum were quantified by ELISA. Effect of MEAS on vascular permeability was evaluated by evans blue dye extravasation assay. Involvement of heme oxygenase (HO)-1 pathway in anti-inflammatory action of MEAS was investigated by pretreating mice with zinc protoporphyrin (ZnPP) IX, a specific inhibitor of HO-1.

MEAS administration significantly reduced paw edema, as evidenced by paw volume measurement and histopathology analysis. Additionally, pretreatment with MEAS markedly reduced vascular permeability, serum proinflammatory cytokine levels, cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS). Further, the anti-inflammatory mechanism of MEAS showed the involvement of HO-1 pathway when HO-1 was inhibited by ZnPPIX.

Our results manifested strong anti-inflammatory activity of MEAS, suggesting its potential use as a therapeutic alternative for treating inflammatory disorders.

For human papillomavirus-associated oropharynx carcinoma treated with definitive surgery, we aimed to find predictors of adverse histopathology indicating the possible need for adjuvant therapy.

Retrospective review.

National Cancer Database.

We analyzed 2347 eligible patients from 2010 to 2015. We evaluated (1) the ability of clinical nodal staging and extranodal extension designation per the AJCC, seventh edition (American Joint Committee on Cancer), to predict histopathology and (2) the likelihoods for adverse postsurgery histopathology by common clinical stages.

Clinical nodal staging predicted pathologic nodal staging 65% of the time, with 24% (569/2347) being upstaged and 11% (251/2347) being downstaged. MEK162 mouse In patients with cN+ disease, clinical extranodal extension distinction had the following accuracy for pathologic extranodal extension positive predictive value, 81% (88/109); negative predictive value, 73.1% (505/691); sensitivity, 32.1% (88/274); and specificity, 96.0% (505/526). Patients wiclinical staging per the American Joint Committee on Cancer, seventh edition, predicts pathologic stage about two-thirds of the time, leading to up- and downstaging. Clinical extranodal extension assessment has low sensitivity and moderate predictive capability. With careful selection, definitive surgery can allow patients to often avoid adjuvant chemotherapy and sometimes avoid adjuvant radiation.
