The calculated target hazard quotient (THQ) value for adults ranged from 0.01 to 0.08 whereas for children it ranged from 0.05 to 0.27 for low-arsenic-accumulating fishes (arsenic conc.  less then  0.5 mg kg-1). Based on these findings, C. mrigala, C. idella, and M. rosenbergii could be recommended as the candidate species for aquaculture in the arsenic-contaminated areas as farming of the low-arsenic-accumulating food fishes would also lower the risk of human exposure through food chain.Local delivery of biotherapeutics to the lung holds great promise for treatment of lung diseases, but development of physically stable, biologically active dry powder formulations of large molecules for inhalation has remained a challenge. Here, spray drying was used to manufacture a dry powder pulmonary formulation of bevacizumab, a monoclonal antibody approved to treat non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by intravenous infusion. By reformulating bevacizumab for local delivery, reduced side effects, lower doses, and improved patient compliance are possible. The formulation had aerosol properties suitable for delivery to the deep lung, as well as good physical stability at ambient temperature for at least 6 months. Bevacizumab's anti-VEGF bioactivity was not impacted by the manufacturing process. The formulation was efficacious in an in vivo rat model for NSCLC at a 10-fold decrease in dose relative to the intravenous control.Craniopharyngiomas (CP) ectopic localizations off the midline outside the sellar-suprasellar region are very rare and most often associated to secondary tumor dissemination, being primary ectopic CPs extremely unusual. We herein report the first case of a primary ectopic craniopharyngioma within the orbit. A 15-year-old patient presented with progressive right ptosis, proptosis, and retro ocular pain. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a predominantly cystic lesion, occupying the superolateral right corner of the orbit, outside the intraconal space with no evidence of intracranial involvement. An endoscopic transorbital eyelid approach was adopted. Pathology report disclosed a primary ectopic craniopharyngioma.Esophageal cancer is one of the malignant tumors with the poorest prognosis. Esophagectomy, which is the mainstay of curative-intent treatments, imposes excessive surgical stress on the patients, and postoperative morbidity and mortality rates after esophagectomy remain high. On the other hand, the number of survivors after esophagectomy for esophageal cancer is increasing due to recent improvements in surgical techniques and multidisciplinary treatments for this cancer. However, esophagectomy still has a great influence on the fundamental aspect of patients' lives, that is, the health-related quality of life (HR-QOL), including their physical, emotional, and social functions in the short- and long-term postoperatively. HR-QOL is a multifactorial concept used to assess the symptoms and functional changes caused by the disease itself and treatments from the patients' perspectives. Therefore, assessing the HR-QOL of patients with esophageal cancer after esophagectomy is becoming increasingly important. However, the status of HR-QOL changes after esophagectomy has not been satisfactorily evaluated, and there is no worldwide consensus as to how the postoperative HR-QOL can be improved. This review aimed to raise awareness of healthcare providers, such as surgeons and nurses, on the importance of HR-QOL in patients with esophageal cancer after curative-intent esophagectomy by providing multifaceted information concerning the short- and long-term HR-QOLs, including the status of changes and the determinants of HR-QOL after esophagectomy, and furthermore, essential points for improvement of HR-QOL after esophagectomy.

The potential risk of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) transmission from asymptomatic COVID-19 patients is a concern in dental practice. However, the impact of this risk is not well documented to date. This report describes our dental clinical experience with patients who did not exhibit symptoms of COVID-19 but were later confirmed as positive for COVID-19.

Of the 149,149 patients who visited the outpatient clinic of KNUDH and the 3291 patients who visited the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic of KNUH, 3 were later confirmed as having COVID-1 between 1 February 2020 and 28 February 2021. Owing to close contact with these patients during their treatments, 46 dental and medical staff had to undergo quarantine from the date of the patients' confirmation of COVID-19 infection.

The presented cases showed the potential existence of asymptomatic COVID-19 patients after dental treatment with aerosol-generating procedures. Clinicians should be aware of the infection prevention measures and try to protect healthcare personnel from secondary infection of COVID-19 during dental treatments.

Our recent experiments have shown that bacterial biofilms also have the ability to self-heal after man-make cuts, but the mechanism of biofilm self-healing have not been studied. We find that the healing process of cuts on the biofilm depends on cut geometries like its location or direction, the biofilm itself like the biofilm age, the growing substrate properties like its hardness, and also the environments such as the competitive growth of multiple biofilms. What is more, the healing rate along the cut is heterogeneous, and the maximum healing rate can reach 260 μm/h, which is three times the undestroyed biofilm expansion rate. The cut does not change the rounded shape growth of biofilms. Further study of phenotypic evolution shows that the cut delays bacterial differentiation; motile cells perceive the cut and move to the cut area, while the cut only heals when there are enough matrix-producing cells in the cut area. Our work suggests new ideas for developing self-healing materials.

Asymmetric conjoined twining (ACT) is a form of conjoined twining which is a rare malformation of monochorionic monoamniotic twin pregnancy. Most publications were single case reports. We reported a cohort of five cases with ACT from a single tertiary medical center and reviewed the case reports of ACT over the last decade to enrich the clinical research of this disease and summarized the clinical features of the disease.

We reviewed five cases of ACT admitted in Tianjin Children's Hospital from 17 March, 2008, through 7 March 2017. The cohort was analysed from general information, imaging manifestations, separation surgery, histopathological findings, outcome and follow-up. We searched the English literatures on case reports of ACT over the past decade from the PubMed database and presented details about the clinical characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of all cases.

There were four males and one female in our cohort. Among the five cases, two parasites were located in epigastrium, two in rachis, ons before separation surgery to delineate the anatomical relationship between the autosite and the parasite. In general, the separation surgery of ACT is less complicated and the prognosis is better compared with the symmetric conjoined twining (SCT).

This study aimed to evaluate the perioperative outcomes of laparoscopic fundoplication (LF) for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in children with scoliosis.

Data of consecutive patients with GERD who underwent LF from January 2015 to December 2020 at a single pediatric institution were retrospectively analyzed.

Eighty-two patients underwent laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication. The median [interquartile range (IQR)] body weight was 9.3 [7; 14] kg. Seventy-five patients wereneurologically impaired (91%), and other comorbidities included scoliosis (n = 33), lung disease (n = 39), and cardiac disease (n = 14). The median (IQR) operative time including the creation of the gastrostomy and volume of bleeding were 160 [143; 190] min and 2 [1; 5] mL, respectively. There were no significant differences between patients with and those without scoliosis (p = 0.17 and p = 0.90, respectively). Patients with cardiac disease had a longer operative time (167 [161; 193] vs. 157 [141; 190] min, p = 0.01). There were three post-operative complications in children with neurological impairment; however, there was no clear relationship between the severity of scoliosis and complications.

Severity of scoliosis did not correlate with perioperative results and post-operative complications. This suggests that the same LF technique can be used regardless of the presence or absence of scoliosis in children.

Bipolar disorder is associated with circadian disruption and a high risk of suicidal behavior. Selleck Bezafibrate In a previous exploratory study of patients with bipolar I disorder, we found that a history of suicide attempts was associated with differences between winter and summer levels of solar insolation. The purpose of this study was to confirm this finding using international data from 42% more collection sites and 25% more countries.

Data analyzed were from 71 prior and new collection sites in 40 countries at a wide range of latitudes. The analysis included 4876 patients with bipolar I disorder, 45% more data than previously analyzed. Of the patients, 1496 (30.7%) had a history of suicide attempt. Solar insolation data, the amount of the sun's electromagnetic energy striking the surface of the earth, was obtained for each onset location (479 locations in 64 countries).

This analysis confirmed the results of the exploratory study with the same best model and slightly better statistical significance. There was a siI disorder. With frequent circadian rhythm dysfunction and suicidal behavior in bipolar disorder, greater understanding of the optimal roles of daylight and electric lighting in circadian entrainment is needed.

A large change in solar insolation, both between winter and summer and between the minimum and maximum monthly values, may increase the risk of suicide attempts in bipolar I disorder. With frequent circadian rhythm dysfunction and suicidal behavior in bipolar disorder, greater understanding of the optimal roles of daylight and electric lighting in circadian entrainment is needed.

There are many unclear points regarding local structural characteristics of the bone surrounding the implant reflecting the mechanical environment.

The purpose of this study is to quantitatively evaluate bone quality surrounding implants placed into the femurs of mice in an unloading model, and to determine the influence of the mechanical environment on bone quality.

Twenty 12-week-old male C57BL6/NcL mice (n = 5/group) were used as experimental animals. The mice were divided into two groups the experimental group (n = 10) which were reared by tail suspension, and the control group (n = 10) which were reared normally. An implant was placed into the femur of a tail-suspended mouse, and after the healing period, they were sacrificed and the femur was removed. After micro-CT imaging, Villanueva osteochrome bone stain was performed. It was embedded in unsaturated polyester resin. The polymerized block was sliced passing through the center of the implant body. Next, 100-μm-thick polished specimens were prepared with water-resistant abrasive paper.
