Fertility experts have advocated addressing preventable causes of infertility and early intervention. However, awareness of risk factors is low, especially in low- and middle-income countries where the prevalence of infertility is high. To address this lack of awareness, the Fertility Awareness Tool (FertiSTAT) was adapted for use in Sudan and other low-resource countries. The aims of this study were to ascertain the need for fertility education in Sudan (Aim 1), and to gauge the acceptability and feasibility of implementing the FertiSTAT in Sudan (Aim 2), both from the patients' perspective. Convenience sampling was used to recruit participants for semi-structured-in-depth interviews from a fertility clinic in Sudan. We collected sociodemographic information, medical and reproductive history, asked about fertility knowledge, administered the FertiSTAT and asked about the acceptability of the FertiSTAT. Thematic analysis was conducted for qualitative data. Twenty participants were included; of these, 17 were female, 13 were educated beyond secondary school, the mean age was 32.8 years, and the mean duration of infertility was 4.1 years. Ten themes emerged of these, three themes addressed Aim 1 'desire for fertility information', 'state of fertility knowledge' and 'benefits of fertility education'; and seven themes addressed Aim 2 'specific suggestions for the tool', 'factors influencing the acceptability and feasibility of implementing the tool', 'challenges and barriers to implementation', 'self-disclosure', 'understanding of being at risk', 'compatibility with worldview' and 'cultural tailoring'. Fertility education was viewed as necessary and beneficial; however, participants thought that lack of acceptability of sensitive topics would hinder the implementation of the FertiSTAT. Acceptability and feasibility would be enhanced if challenges were addressed in a culturally sensitive manner using cultural tailoring of materials to increase compatibility with individual worldviews.This study aimed to evaluate the general knowledge and attitudes about assisted reproductive technology (ART) and the influence of sociodemographic features on knowledge and attitudes in a large sample of men and women of reproductive age in Hungary. A cross-sectional online survey study was conducted among 1370 men and women between 18 and 50 years of age in Hungary. The questionnaire included questions about self-rated knowledge, an attitude item, and eight questions concerning general knowledge about ART. In addition, participants were asked sociodemographic background questions. The results show that approximately half of the respondents (49.3%) rated themselves as fairly knowledgeable about ART. However, 56% of the respondents answered just three of the eight knowledge questions correctly. Both men and women had limited knowledge about the success rate of ART, the costs of ART and the age limit to access ART. The greatest lack of knowledge about ART was about its risks the majority of respondents did not know that in-vitro fertilization poses health risks for women and conceived children. Regarding attitudes, the majority of respondents had a very positive attitude towards ART. Only those respondents who were religious were less supportive of ART. These data suggest that men and women of reproductive age overestimate their ART-related knowledge. It initially responds to chemotherapy but rapidly becomes chemoresistant and it is highly proliferative. The prognosis in SCLC is poor. We have established a novel SCLC cell line, SCLC-J1, from a malignant pleural effusion in a patient with advanced SCLC. SCLC-J1 cells express ganglioside GD2, CD276, and Delta-like protein 3. RB1 is lost. These features of the new SCLC cell line may be useful in understanding the cellular and molecular biology of SCLC and in designing better treatment.A fast and reliable method for the identification of milk from different mammalians was developed by using 31P NMR metabolite profile of milk serum coupled to multivariate analysis (PCA and classification models UNEQ, SIMCA and K-NN). Ten milk samples from six different mammalians, relevant to human nutrition (human, cow, donkey, mare, goat, sheep), were analyzed and eight monophosphorylated components were identified and quantified phosphocreatine (PCr), glycerophosphorylcholine (GPC), glycerophosphorylethanolamine (GPE), N-acetylglucosamine-1-phosphate (NAcGlu-1P), lactose-1-phosphate (Lac-1P), galactose-1-phosphate (Gal-1P), phosphorylcholine (PC), glucose-6-phosphate (Glu-6P). PCA showed interesting clustering based on the animal genus. K-NN can be successfully used to discriminate between donkey and cow samples while UNEQ class-modeling resulted more suitable for compliance verification. Results confirm the natural variability of milk samples among different species. These data highlight the great potentials of NMR/multivariate analysis combined method in the rapid analysis of phosphorylated milk serum metabolites for milk origin assessment and milk adulteration detection.

Peripheral neuropathy (PN) is the damage and dysfunction of neurons of the peripheral nervous system. The present study was conducted to estimate the effectiveness of low-power laser therapy (LPLT) in the management of PN in a rats' model.

PN was induced by giving dichloroacetate (DCA) (250mg/kg/day) for up to 12 weeks. Four groups of rats were used control group, PN group, PN group treated with gabapentin and PN group treated with LPLT. The study was conducted for 8 weeks. The management of PN was estimated by behavioral tests which included hot plate and Morris water maze tests. Blood biochemical analysis were carried out.

Using of hot plate test indicated thermal hypoalgesia and using Morris water maze test showed cognitive decline in PN rats. Treatment with LPLT or gabapentin improved both the pain sensations and deteriorated memory that occurred in the PN rats. H2DCFDA Biochemical analysis showed that LPLT significantly decreased the elevated beta-endorphin level in PN rats, while gabapentin could not reduce it. Treatment PN rats with LPLT or gabapentin shifted the high levels of TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-10 cytokines back to their normal values. Serum nitric oxide and MDA significantly increased in the PN group together with significant reduction in the rGSH level, these values were significantly improved by LPLT application while this was not the case with gabapentin treatment. Furthermore, treatment with gabapentin or LPLT significantly reduced serum ALAT and ASAT activities which are otherwise increased in the PN group. S100B, PGE2, total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, urea and creatinine showed insignificant changes among all groups.

It is suggested that differences in the pathogenicity of AIV infection between waterfowls and chickens are related to the expression of retinoic acid-inducible gene I (RIG-I), a pattern recognition receptor that chickens evolutionally lack. Here, we knocked-in the duck RIG-I bearing the T2A peptide sequence at the 3' region of the Mx, an interferon-stimulated gene (ISG), in chicken embryo fibroblast cells (DF-1) using the precise integration into target chromosome (PITCh) system to control the duck RIG-I expression in chickens. The expression patterns of the duck RIG-I were then analyzed using qPCR. The knocked-in DF-1 cells expressed RIG-I via the stimulation of IFN-β and poly(IC) in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, poly(IC) stimulation in the knocked-in DF-1 cells upregulated RIG-I-like receptor (RLR) family signaling pathway-related genes IFN-β, OASL, and IRF7. The IFN-β-dependent expression of RIG-I and upregulation of IFN-β in the poly(IC) stimulation demonstrated a positive-feedback loop via RIG-I, usually evident in ducks. Overall, this novel strategy established RIG-I-dependent immune response in chickens without overexpression of RIG-I and disruption of the host genes.Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9, also known as gelatinases or type IV collagenases, are recognized as major contributors to the proteolytic degradation of extracellular matrix during tumor invasion. Latent MMP-2 (proMMP-2) is activated by membrane type 1 MMP (MT1-MMP) on the cell surface of tumor cells. We previously reported that cell-bound proMMP-9 is activated by the MT1-MMP/MMP-2 axis in HT1080 cells treated with concanavalin A in the presence of exogenous proMMP-2. However, the regulatory mechanism of proMMP-9 activation remains largely unknown. Transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 is frequently overexpressed in tumor tissues and is associated with tumor aggressiveness and poor prognosis. In this study, we examined the role of TGF-β1 on MT1-MMP-mediated proMMP-9 activation using human oral squamous cell carcinoma cells. TGF-β1 significantly increased the expression of MMP-9. By adding exogenous proMMP-2, TGF-β1-induced proMMP-9 was activated during collagen gel culture, which was suppressed by the inhibition of TGF-β1 signaling or MT1-MMP activity. This MT1-MMP-mediated proMMP-9 activation was needed to facilitate TGF-β1-induced cell invasion into collagen gel. Thus, TGF-β1 may facilitate MT1-MMP-mediated MMP-9 activation and thereby stimulate invasion of tumor cells in collaboration with MT1-MMP and MMP-2.

and mental ill-health. This study examines differences in self-reported mental health and psychotropic medication uptake across HSC occupational groups.

Northern Ireland (NI) data linkage study of people working in the Health and Care sector, aged between twenty and sixty-four years, enumerated at the 2011 Northern Ireland Census and living in private households, and their uptake of prescribed psychotropic medications during 2011-2012 (using data derived from routine electronically captured information on prescriptions issued within the NHS and linked at an individual level using a NI-specific Health and Care key identifier). Comparing HSC workers with all those professionals not involved in HSC occupations, we used multinomial logistic regression to examine (a) self-reported chronic mental illness and (b) uptake of psychotropic medication by occupational groups adjusting for age, sex and socio-demographic circumstance.
