Due to the noise, structural vibration, and airflow in the process of detection, the accuracy of defect identification is easily deteriorated. To address this issue and further determine the relationship between the ultrasonic acoustical pressure attenuation and structural parameters, a novel two-level identification method based on the modified two-dimensional variational mode decomposition (2D-VMD) has been proposed. In the first level, C-scan images have been sparsely decomposed into ensembles of modes by 2D-VMD method. Then, the modes have been screened by mutual information method to realize the reconstruction of new image in the second level. Experimental results have shown that the proposed method has the good ability to identify defects with a minimum detectable diameter of 1-2 mm. It has been noted that the ultrasonic acoustical pressure attenuation has become remarkably higher in the twill weave CFRP than the plain weave CFRP and the ratio of pressure attenuation between two weave types of CFRP has decreased with the defect depth increase. Meanwhile, shadows around defects in C-scan images have been suppressed to a great extent. It has been demonstrated that the capability of denoising has enabled the developed method with the accurate detection in terms of the shape, size, depth and weave type. S-allylmercapto-N-acetylcysteine (ASSNAC) exhibits anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects in other diseases. However, the pharmacodynamics of ASSNAC remain unclear for PF. This investigation aimed to evaluate the efficacy and mechanism of ASSNAC against PF. The PF model was established by TGF-β1 stimulating HFL-1 cells in vitro. ASSNAC exhibited the potential to inhibit fibroblast transformation into myofibroblasts. Also, in the PF mice model with bleomycin (BLM), the sodium salt of ASSNAC (ASSNAC-Na) inhalation was treated. ASSNAC remarkably improved mice's lung tissue structure and collagen deposition. The important indicator proteins of PF, collagen Ⅰ, collagen Ⅲ, and α-SMA significantly decreased in the ASSNAC treated groups. Besides, ASSNAC attenuated oxidative stress by reversing glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels and interfering with Nrf2/NOX4 signaling pathways. College students are at increased risk of tuberculosis (TB), which increases their likelihood of developing latent tuberculosis infections (LTBI). This study aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence of LTBI and identify its risk factors.

Systematic review and meta-analysis.

We searched PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, CNKI, Wanfang and CBM databases (10 March 2022) for studies published in any language. The pooled prevalence of LTBI was estimated using random effects methods. Factors associated with LTBI were evaluated by determining standardised mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence interval (CI). All analyses were performed using the Stata 15.1.

A total of 50 studies from 18 countries were included, with 44 tuberculin skin test (n=623,732) and 19 interferon gamma release assay (n=38,266) estimates. The prevalence of a positive tuberculin skin test was 20% (95% CI 17-23%), and the prevalence of a positive interferon gamma release assay was 9% (95% CI 7%-11%) among college students. Older age (SMD 1.67, 95% CI 1.31-2.13), no Bacillus Calmette-Guérin vaccination/scar (SMD 1.51, 95% CI 1.06-2.16), contact with TB cases (SMD 1.34, 95% CI 1.11-1.62), clinical training (SMD 1.93, 95% CI 1.65-2.26) and overweight/obesity (SMD 1.17, 95% CI 1.06-1.30) were associated with a higher prevalence of LTBI. Sex was not associated with LTBI prevalence.

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected healthcare systems and daily well-being. However, the reports of the indirect impacts of the pandemic on preterm birth remain conflicting. We performed a meta-analysis to examine whether the pandemic altered the risk of preterm birth.

This was a systematic review and meta-analysis of the previous literature.

We searched MEDLINE and Embase databases until March 2022 using appropriate keywords and extracted 63 eligible studies that compared preterm between the COVID-19 pandemic period and the prepandemic period. A random effects model was used to obtain the pooled odds of each outcome. The study protocol was registered with PROSPERO (No. CRD42022326717).

The search identified 3827 studies, of which 63 reports were included. A total of 3,220,370 pregnancies during the COVID-19 pandemic period and 6,122,615 pregnancies during the prepandemic period were studied. Compared with the prepandemic period, we identified a significant decreased odds of preterm birtic compared with the prepandemic period. Large studies showed conflicting results, and further research on whether the change is related to pandemic mitigation measures was warranted.

This study aimed to compare the survival experience of adult inpatients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 during the first three waves (wild type, Delta, and Omicron) of the pandemic in Mexico.

A retrospective and nationwide study was conducted.

Data from 229,311 participants were analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method, and estimates per each pandemic wave were obtained. A multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression model was fitted, and hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were computed.

The overall mortality rate was 49.1 per 1000 person-days. Heterogeneous survival rates were observed during the analyzed emergences (log-rank test, P<0.001), and the lowest survival functions were computed during the Omicron variant dominance. In multiple analyses and after adjusting by host characteristics and COVID-19 vaccination status, cases occurring during the Delta (vs wild type HR=1.03, 95% CI 1.01-1.05) and Omicron emergence were at increased risk for a fatal in-hospital outcome (HR=1.17, 95% CI 1.13-1.22).

Our results suggest variant-related differences in the survival rates of hospitalized patients with laboratory-positive COVID-19. When compared with the wild-type virus, lower rates were observed during the Delta and Omicron emergence.
