AGES relies on the auxin-dependent degradation of a ubiquitously expressed GAL80, and therefore, is compatible with existing GAL4-driver lines. Water-soluble auxin is added to fly food at a low, non-lethal, concentration, which induces expression comparable to uninhibited GAL4 expression. The system works in both larvae and adults, providing a stringent, non-lethal, cost-effective, and convenient method for temporally controlling GAL4 activity in Drosophila.

Functional alignment (FA) is a novel technique that utilizes robotic tools to deliver TKA with the aim of respecting individual anatomical variations. The purpose of this paper is to describe the rationale and technique of FA in the varus morphotype with the use of a robotic platform.

The principles are founded on a comprehensive assessment and understanding of individual anatomical variations with the aim of delivering personalized TKA. A 21-year-old male college soccer player with no remarkable history of injury had been suffering from pain at the lateral aspect of the left knee when playing soccer. At another hospital, the patient was diagnosed with a lateral meniscus injury and cartilage injury of the external condyle of the tibia and underwent partial resection of the meniscus and bone drilling. However, his symptoms continued, and he was referred to our institution. Instability of the left proximal tibiofibular joint and pain were noted during weight-bearing dorsiflexion of the ankle. We diagnosed the case as a proximal tibiofibular joint disorder and surgically treated it by dissecting the proximal portion of the semitendinosus tendon, creating one transfibular and two transtibial tunnels, and then reconstructing the proximal tibiofibular ligament using the harvested semitendinosus tendon graft. The patient was allowed to run at postoperative 2 months, with no pain occurring while squatting at postoperative 3 months, subsequently resuming soccer at postoperative 8 months. The proximal tibiofibular joint disorder is a relatively rare pathology, and diagnosis and conservative treatment are often difficult. Although various surgical treatments are known, the clinical outcome of our case has been successful after reconstructing the anterior and posterior proximal tibiofibular ligaments using a semitendinosus tendon graft.

We conducted this study following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses Statement (PRISMA) and the Cochrane Handbook for systematic reviews and meta-analysis. Studies evaluating the effect of the double level osteotomy (DLO) or those comparing it to high tibial osteotomy (HTO) from all regions and written in any language were included.

Six studies were included in this systematic review. They were prepared and analysed using Review Manager V5.0 [Computer Program] (RevMan5). Performing DLO resulted in restoring patellar height, joint-line convergence angle (JLCA), and mMPTA to normal values. DLO was also more successful at avoiding joint line obliquity (JLO) in severe varus deformity when compared to HTO (P<0.001). No significant difference was reported between the two cohorts regarding the mLPTA. DLO resulted in satisfactory short term KOOS and IKDC scores. The complication rate after DLO was 2.28%.

Whilst these relationships have been researched in populations with typical motor development, little is known of the interplay of these contributors to PSW with those with low motor competence (LMC). Even less is known of how importance placed on particular physical subdomains may be used by the adolescent with LMC to mitigate negative effects on their perceptions of PSW. Method Thirty-four adolescents with low motor competence, 25 boys and 9 girls (Mage = 13.89 yrs, SD = 1.49), completed the McCarron Assessment of Neuromuscular Development (MAND), the Children's Physical Self-Perception Questionnaire (C-PSPP) and a range of physical fitness tests. Results All self-perception subdomain score was lower than importance ratings. Physical fitness measures were also low but were not significantly associated with PSW. However, the higher importance scores relative to physical self-perceptions resulted in greater discrepancy scores in all subdomains. Conclusion Adolescents with LMC have low PSW, and low self-perceptions relative to importance ratings for most physical self-subdomains. These discrepancies, rather than actual fitness, potentially reduce their motivation to be physically active.This study investigated associations between step cadence and physical function in healthy South Asian (SA) and White European (WE) older adults, aged ≥60. Participants completed the 60-s Sit-to-Stand (STS-60) test of physical function. Free-living stepping was measured using the activPAL3™. Seventy-one WEs (age = 72 ± 5, 53% male) and 33 SAs (age = 71 ± 5, 55% male) were included. WEs scored higher than SAs in the STS-60 (23 vs 20 repetitions, p = 0.045). Compared to WEs, SAs had significantly lower total and brisk (≥100 steps/min) steps (total 8971 vs 7780 steps/day, p = 0.041; brisk 5515 vs 3723 steps/day, p = 0.001). In WEs, 1000 brisk steps and each decile higher proportion of steps spent brisk stepping were associated with STS-60 (β = 0.72 95% CI 0.05, 1.38 and β = 1.01 95% CI 0.19, 1.82, respectively), with associations persisting across mean peak 1 min (β = 1.42 95% CI 0.12, 2.71), 30 min (β = 1.71 95% CI 0.22, 3.20), and 60 min (β = 2.16 95% CI 0.62, 3.71) stepping periods. Postural stability of all participants was tested using the Biodex Balance System (BBS) before and immediately after watching a 30-min documentary program (control group) or completing a 30-min Stroop task (experimental group). Subjective ratings of mental fatigue were measured before and after the Stroop task or watching documentary program. Results The results indicated that experimental group revealed higher stability scores in the posttest compared to pretest (P ≤ 0.001).
