5%, 2%, and 1.6% respectively). Overall, 35.8% of the screened cases required a follow-up for 1 or more abnormal findings.

The findings confirmed the necessity to introduce a prenatal ultrasound screening program in rural areas of Lebanon where refugees are settled. The lack of adequate ultrasound screening in these regions presents major threats that can hinder any pregnancy. Our simple intervention tackles the burden of diagnosis of these risks in up to 35.8% of pregnancies and thus can help improve outcomes.

The patent period of these proprietary branded drugs gives its manufacturers sole exclusivity of their product in the market. As the patent period of these products expire, the generic players will initiate their attempts to manufacture and bring generic versions of the reference listed drug product (RLD) into the market. The regulatory approval for a generic DDS based on nanotechnology requires proving the therapeutic equivalence of the generic product with that of the RLD via pharmacodynamics clinical endpoint study on healthy subjects or patients. These studies are extremely complex, expensive and time-consuming and may have uncertain outcomes. Furthermore, development, scale-up and manufacturing of generic versions of nanotechnology-based DDS involves complex steps and achieving an optimized formulation heavily depends on the process parameters during manufacturing. The information in this review addresses the said issues above and emphasizes on the possibility of using exhaustive in vitro characterization of the generic versions of nanotechnology-based DDSs in the current market to obtain a biowaiver. Various processes involved and their importance in obtaining an optimized formulation have been described to address the issue regarding manufacturing complexities.Inflammasomes are macromolecular complexes formed in response to pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and danger-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) that drive maturation of the pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18, and cleave gasdermin D (GSDMD) for induction of pyroptosis. Inflammasomes are highly important in protecting the host from various microbial pathogens and sterile insults. Inflammasome pathways are strictly regulated at both transcriptional and post-translational checkpoints. When these checkpoints are not properly imposed, undue inflammasome activation may promote inflammatory, metabolic and oncogenic processes that give rise to autoinflammatory, autoimmune, metabolic and malignant diseases. In addition to clinically approved IL-1-targeted biologics, upstream targeting of inflammasome pathways recently gained interest as a novel pharmacological strategy for selectively modulating inflammasome activation in pathological conditions.Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a severe and complex psychiatric disorder characterized by intense fear about weight gain and finalized to food-related control behaviors. Growing interest has been demonstrated about neurobiological processes subtend to AN physiopathology. The present review aimed to collect neurostructural and neurofunctional available data from 2010 to 2019. Results have been organized according to the neuroimaging technique employed, also including a specific section on electroencephalographic results, mostly neglected in previous reviews. Diffuse cerebral vulnerability has been demonstrated and the contribution of several structures has been identified. Insula, cingulate cortex, parietal and frontal areas are primarily involved both by structural and functional perspectives. Moreover, consistent alterations in white matter integrity and brain electrical activity have been reported. Neuroimaging findings give a substantial contribution to AN pathophysiological description, also in order to understand altered but reversible processes in the passage from acute illness phase to disorder's remission, useful also for defining therapy.

We are studying a new method for estimating blood volume flow that uses 3-dimensional ultrasound to measure the total integrated flux through an ultrasound-generated Gaussian surface that intersects the umbilical cord. This method makes none of the assumptions typically required with standard 1-dimensional spectral Doppler volume flow estimates. We compared the variations in volume flow estimates between techniques in the umbilical vein.

The study was Institutional Review Board approved, and all 12 patients gave informed consent. Propionyl-L-carnitine cost Because we had no reference standard for the true umbilical vein volume flow, we compared the variations of the measurements for the flow measurement techniques. At least 3 separate spectral Doppler and 3 separate Gaussian surface measurements were made along the umbilical vein. Means, standard deviations, and coefficients of variation (standard deviation/mean) for the flow estimation techniques were calculated for each patient. P < .05 was considered significant.

The ranges of the mean volume flow estimates were 174 to 577 mL/min for the spectral Doppler method and 100 to 341 mL/min for the Gaussian surface integration (GSI) method. The mean standard deviations (mean ± SD) were 161 ± 95 and 45 ± 48 mL/min for the spectral Doppler and GSI methods, respectively (P < .003). The mean coefficients of variation were 0.46 ± 0.17 and 0.18 ± 0.14 for the spectral Doppler and GSI methods respectively (P < 0.002).

The new volume flow estimation method using 3-dimensional ultrasound appears to have significantly less variation in estimates than the standard 1-dimensional spectral Doppler method.
