To evaluate discriminative validity, relative reliability and absolute reliability of four tablet-based tests for the evaluation of upper limb motor function in healthy persons and patients with neurological disorders.

Cross-sectional study in 54 participants 29 patients with upper limb movement impairment due to a neurological condition recruited from an inpatient rehabilitation centre and 25 healthy persons. Accuracy, speed and path length were analysed for four tablet-based tests "Spiral drawings," "Tapping," "Follow the dot" and "Trace a star." The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was used to evaluate discriminative validity. Relative reliability was analysed with the intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC), and absolute reliability by limits of agreement (LoA) and minimal detectable difference (MDD).

All four tests showed excellent discriminative validity for the parameter accuracy (AUC 0.93-0.98). Tapping was the best test for discriminating patients from healthy pers dysfunction were evaluated "Spiral drawings", "Tapping", "Follow the dot" and "Trace a star". The parameter accuracy in these four tests had excellent discriminative validity and good reliability. Patients can perform the tests independently at home for self-monitoring of progress. This may increase patients' motivation to exercise at home. The results can be sent to physicians, enabling the earlier detection of deterioration, which may require medical attention. With the increasing use of endovascular technology in the treatment of various conditions, there has been an inevitable rise in cases with extravasation of contrast medium. We present a case in which extravasation of a large quantity of contrast medium resulted in acute communicating hydrocephalus. A 78-year-old woman came to the hospital because of abnormal right-sided limb movement, and was diagnosed with occlusion of the left internal carotid artery. The patient underwent timely intra-arterial mechanical thrombectomy. Postoperative computed tomography (CT) examination revealed a high-density shadow of the left basal ganglia and left frontal lobe. Twelve hours later, the patient fell into a coma. Repeat head CT indicated acute hydrocephalus with no evidence of obstruction. The patient underwent emergency external ventricular drainage, and the drainage fluid was observed to be clear. The patient regained consciousness after the procedure and the drainage tube was removed 4 days later. The patient had no recurrence of hydrocephalus. The mechanisms and treatment of this condition are discussed. Here, we studied the protective effect of rutin (RUT) against testicular damage caused by busulfan (BUS) in rats. Adult male Wistar rats were intraperitoneally injected with BUS (4 mg/kg body weight at day 7 and 14), and then treated with RUT (30 mg/kg body weight) by gavage thrice weekly for 60 days. The results showed that BUS-induced increase in 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3β-HSD) was significantly decreased by RUT, whereas 17β-HSD activity and plasma testosterone concentration remained unaffected (p > 0.05). It was also observed that RUT inhibited BUS-induced increase in nitrite concentrations and myeloperoxidase enzyme activities in the plasma and testes (p  less then  0.05). Similarly, BUS-induced decrease in glutathione and increase in malondialdehyde concentrations in the testes were significantly normalized to control values by RUT. Finally, RUT administration showed some tendency to improve the architecture of the seminiferous epithelium of the rat's testes after BUS treatment. Overall, RUT inhibited BUS-induced oxidative damage and inflammation in the testis of an experimental rat model.Pomegranate fruit extract contains many polyphenols and flavonoids of diverse biological importance including anticancer potential. In cancer, the angiogenesis process facilitates solid cancer growth and metastasis. Here, the antiangiogenic effect of pomegranate fruit extract against human pancreatic cancer (Suit-2) and colon (colo205) cell lines in the chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model was studied along with the effect of pomegranate fruit extract on fibroblast growth factor (FGF2). Pomegranate fruit extract significantly reduced the tumor weight and hemoglobin content in CAM models of pancreatic Suit-2 and colon colo205.Osthole (Ost) is a coumarin compound and a potential drug for Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the effectiveness of Ost is limited by solubility, bioavailability, and low permeability of the blood-brain barrier. In this study, we constructed Ost liposomes with modified CXCR4 on the surface (CXCR4-Ost-Lips), and investigated the intracellular distribution of liposomes in APP-SH-SY5Y cells. find more In addition, the neuroprotective effect of CXCR4-Ost-Lips was examined in vitro and in vivo. The results showed that CXCR4-Ost-Lips increased intracellular uptake by APP-SH-SY5Y cells and exerted a cytoprotective effect in vitro. The results of Ost brain distribution showed that CXCR4-Ost-Lips prolonged the cycle time of mice and increased the accumulation of Ost in the brain. In addition, CXCR4-Ost-Lips enhanced the effect of Ost in relieving AD-related pathologies. These results indicate that CXCR4-modified liposomes are a potential Ost carrier to treat AD.

The use of telemedicine, a part of 'Virtual Care', is rapidly entering mainstream clinical practice. The ideal curriculum for educating physicians to practice in this emerging field has not been established. We examined the literature to evaluate published curricula for quality and comprehensiveness through the lens of Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME).

We performed a scoping review using CanMEDS as a framework. Peer-reviewed articles describing telemedicine training curricula were identified. Trainee population, curricular points, stage of implementation, evaluation depth, country, and citations (a marker of quality) were examined.

Forty-three curricula from 11 countries were identified, addressing all training levels and covering multiple specialties. Instructional methods included lectures (60.5%), hands-on experiences (76%), directed reading (24%), online modules (21%), reflection (13%), simulation (34%), and group discussions (16%). Hands-on curricula covered all CanMEDS roles more often. Twenty-nine of the implemented curricula were evaluated; 83% were rated positively.
