We examined undergraduates' concerns about returning to campus and online learning from home.

Undergraduates majoring in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) at US universities/colleges.

Participants completed an online survey in July 2020. We content-analyzed responses to open-ended questions about concerns about fall 2020.

Students (

 64) were 52% women, 47% low socioeconomic status (SES), and 27% non-Hispanic white. Concerns about returning to campus included student noncompliance with university COVID-19 prevention guidelines (28%), infection risk (28%), poor instructional quality (26%), inadequate university plans for preventing/handling outbreaks (25%), negative impacts on social interactions (11%), and transportation/commuting (11%). Concerns about learning from home included difficulty focusing on schoolwork (58%), lack of hands-on/experiential learning (24%), negative impacts on social interactions (19%), family/home environment (15%), concerns that online learning wastes time/money (10%), and inadequate technology/Internet access (5%).

Universities should address student concerns and provide resources to overcome barriers to effective learning.The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between coping with pain in individuals with chronic pain and their levels of spiritual wellbeing. The research was conducted as a cross-sectional study. It was conducted with 148 participants who were experiencing chronic pain. Data were collected using Sociodemographic Questionnaire, Pain Coping Questionnaire (PCQ) and Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS). Data were analyzed using Kolmogorov-Smirnov/Shapiro-Wilk's test, skewness, kurtosis, Cronbach's α, mean, standard deviation, mean rank and binary logistic regression analysis. According to the data obtained, it was concluded that participants' levels of spiritual wellbeing were high, and spiritual wellbeing could be used as an effective mechanism for coping with pain. It is therefore recommended that training sessions and information meetings be organized to create awareness in health care and social work professionals and in those living with chronic pain and their families.AbstractThe effects of the addition of EDTA-2Na on sludge disintegration and phosphorus (P) migration during anaerobic fermentation (AF) of waste activated sludge (WAS) are investigated. The efficiency of sludge disintegration was positively correlated with the dose of EDTA-2Na from 0.5 to 2.0 g/g SS, and an enormous quantity of P was liberated into the aqueous phase, accompanied by sludge disintegration. The proper dose of EDTA-2Na for P release from WAS was 1.5 g/g SS, with an orthophosphate concentration of 394.72 mg/L. P release was more consistent with the pseudo second-order kinetic model. The migration of P species during AF with EDTA-2Na addition was also studied. Orthophosphate was the main species in both of the liquid phase and in the loosely bound extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), but organic P (OP) was much more abundant in tightly bound EPS. Inorganic P (IP) was the dominant P speciation in the solid and was mainly distributed in the fraction of non-apatite IP, which accounted for more than 62.8% of IP in the presence of EDTA-2Na. In addition, both IP and OP in the solid contributed to the accumulation of P and the former was outperformed. Furthermore, the increased total dissolved P mainly came from cells. However, the fermented sludge tended to be smaller and to have low compressibility, which is detrimental to its further treatment.

Front-line providers working with people who inject drugs (PWID) are at increased risk of experiencing burnout. Few studies have examined protective factors against burnout incurred in the care of PWID, including harm reduction counseling skills. We measured self-efficacy in harm reduction counseling, burnout, and compassion satisfaction among Internal Medicine (IM) trainees caring for PWID.

In this cross-sectional study, we surveyed IM interns and residents. Self-efficacy was assessed by asking trainees about attitudes, comfort, and knowledge in harm reduction counseling on a five-point Likert scale. Burnout and compassion satisfaction were assessed via an adapted 20-question Professional Quality of Life Scale. We compared self-efficacy in harm reduction counseling, compassion satisfaction, and burnout between interns and residents using ANOVA and Mann-Whitney

tests. We used Spearman's rho correlational analysis to examine the relationship between these three variables.

Seventy-nine IM trainees (3tion.In this study, keratin-associated proteins gene (KRTAP8-1) from five different sheep breeds and breed-crosses (n = 310) was genotyped using a Polymerase Chain Reaction-Single Strand confirmation Polymorphism (PCR-SSCP). Variation in KRTAP8-1 was found to have strong association with MSL, OpSD and CVOp (p ≤ 0.027). The MSL of sheep of genotype AE was greater (p = 0.027) than for sheep of genotype AA. The OpSD of sheep of genotype AA was less (p = 0.017) than sheep with the AE genotype, and the CVOp of sheep with genotype AA was less (p = 0.018) than sheep with genotype AE. Further studies are required to confirm the role of variation in KRTAP8-1 in improving quality wool production.High altitude hypoxia (HAH) involves the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis (UC) and gastrointestinal erosions. However, the mechanism of effects of HAH in colitis remains controversial. Eganelisib This study reports the immunomodulation mediated by HAH to enhancing the severity of UC in the mice model. BALB/c mice were used to establish the UC model by dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) compared to wild type mice. Mice groups were exposed to hypoxic conditions in a hypobaric chamber with an altitude of 5000 m for 7 days. Then, Spleen, mesenteric lymph nodes and colon tissues were collected. The activity of UC, the infiltration of the immune cells, and the released cytokines were investigated. Results showed that the severity of DSS-induced UC significantly increased in mice exposed to HAH. The analysis of pathological changes showed increased weight loss and decreased colon length accompanied by diarrhea and bloody feces in the hypobaric hypoxia group. Interestingly, the levels of inflammatory cytokines IL-17, TNF-α, and IFN-γ in the spleen and mesenteric lymph node showed a significant increase within the colon of the hypobaric hypoxia group. The population of Th 1 and Th 17 cells in the spleen was significantly increased in mice exposed to hypobaric hypoxia compared NC group. Suggesting that high altitude hypoxia enhances colitis in mice through activating the increase of inflammatory Th1 and Th17 lymphocytes. In conclusion, this study revealed that hypobaric hypoxia directly increases the severity of UC in the mice model via increasing the activity of inflammatory CD4+ Th1 and Th 17 lymphocytes.ABSTRACTDomestic and family violence is a social and public health issue typically positioned in policy frameworks as a consequence of gendered social and economic structures. In this paper, we deploy an approach that draws on Hörl's neo-ecological thinking to propose that the home, as a site of domestic violence, can be usefully framed as an ecology of the domestic, a posthumanist hybrid matrix of bodies, spaces and objects in which various practices enact the smooth running of the domestic together with practices of domestic and family violence, including coercive control. Our interest is in coercive control and in the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic had on practices which enact this aspect of domestic violence. Our exploration of the practices that enact coercive control draws on the work of Law and others. We examine how practices, which are not compatible, or that do not cohere, are able to coexist in a domestic ecology and what occurs when there is a disruption as occurred with the pandemic.Liraglutide, a glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP1) receptor agonist, is known to inhibit the atherosclerosis of apoE mice and suppress the cellular behaviors of VSMCs induced by AngII. This study aimed to explore whether liraglutide can reduce the proliferation, invasion and phenotypic transformation of VSMCs induced by Hcy and the underlying mechanism. Hcy was used to induce the proliferation of VSMCs, and liraglutide was then used to expose the cells for assessing cell proliferation. Afterward, the cell migration and phenotypic switch were evaluated to observe the effects of liraglutide. Meanwhile, the expression of PCSK9 and LDLR was detected. After overexpressing PCSK9, the changes in proliferation, cell migration and phenotypic switch were estimated again. Hcy promoted cell proliferation of VSMCs, whereas liraglutide blocked the proliferation, migration and phenotypic switch of Hcy-induced VSMCs. Furthermore, the expression of PCSK9 was downregulated and LDLR expression was upregulated after liraglutide administration in Hcy-induced VSMCs. After overexpressing PCSK9, the proliferation, migration and phenotypic switch of Hcy-induced VSMCs were enhanced. Liraglutide blocked the proliferation, migration and phenotypic switching of Hcy-induced VSMCs by suppressing PCSK9/LDLR. This finding provided the basis for the future application of liraglutide as an effective drug for therapeutic strategy in targeting AS.Neutralizing antibodies waned significantly six months after two-dose procedure of inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. However, it is not clear whether a third booster dose could quickly activate the body's immune response against the emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants. This study demonstrated that after a third booster dose of inactivated vaccine, immune memory can be quickly awakened, and the antibody response recovered after seven days. Importantly, although the titers decreased, the neutralizing antibodies at 14 days after the third dose can still neutralize alpha, beta, and delta variants.

This pilot study was intended to evaluate the effects of active game play on cognition, quality of life, and depression for older people with dementia.

Thirty-eight older people with dementia were recruited. Eighteen people received eight-week active game play using Xbox 360 Kinect. Twenty people received their usual care. The Mini Mental State Examination, Quality of Life-Alzheimer's Disease and Cornell Scale for Depression in Dementia were used to measure the outcomes.

The results showed that there was no significant improvement on the mean scores of Mini Mental State Examination (

= .252), however, the active game play increased the mean score of Quality of Life-Alzheimer's Disease (

= .005), and reduced the mean score of Cornell Scale for Depression in Dementia (

= .001) in comparison with the usual care group.

The study demonstrated that the active game play was effective in improving quality of life and alleviating depression in older people with dementia.

Findings highlight the potential for gaming as a non-pharmacological interventions for older people with dementia.
