Future burden has been modeled from population-based data for several common gastrointestinal diseases. However, as we enter the third decade in the 21st century, there are no such data on diseases of the pancreas holistically. The study aimed to estimate future incidence of pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, diabetes of the exocrine pancreas (DEP), and exocrine pancreatic dysfunction (EPD) as well as years of life lost (YLL) due to premature death in individuals with those diseases up to 2050.

Historical New Zealand nationwide data on hospital discharge, pharmaceutical dispensing, cancer, and mortality were obtained. Annual incidence of each disease and annual YLLs due to premature death in individuals with each disease were calculated. A time series analysis using the stepwise autoregressive method was conducted.

Pancreatitis yielded the highest projected incidence (123.7 per 100,000; 95% confidence interval, 116.7-130.7) and YLL (14,709 years; 13,642-15,777) in 2050. The projected incidence and YLL of pancreatic cancer were 18.6 per 100,000 (95% confidence interval, 13.1-24.1) and 14,247 years (11,349-17,144) in 2050, respectively. Compared with pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer, DEP and EPD yielded lower but more steeply increasing projected incidence rates and YLLs.

The findings suggest that the burden of pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, DEP, and EPD will rise in the next 3 decades unless healthcare systems introduce effective prevention or early treatment strategies for diseases of the pancreas and their sequelae.

The objective of the study was the analysis of adherence and self-perceived treatment response to long-term botulinum neurotoxin type A (BoNT-A) treatment in different neurological indications.

In this retrospective, monocentric, observational study, cross-sectional and longitudinal data of 1351 patients documenting 20705 injection appointments at the BoNT outpatient clinic of Heinrich Heine University Duesseldorf between 1989 and 2014 were retrospectively analyzed. The purpose of this project was to explore digital health technologies in the healthcare environment through the use of concept and mind mapping tools in a graduate level informatics practicum course.

This descriptive course evaluation project was conducted at a large university school of nursing during the 2019-2020 academic year and included a convenience sample of 163 doctor of nursing practice students.

Students completed four major deliverables exploring digital health technologies and data sources using mind maps. Project goals were evaluated using detailed rubrics and data from a course evaluation questionnaire (CEQ) then analyzed using descriptive statistics. Comments from the CEQ and reflection documents were reviewed for themes and validated by two experts.

The variety and creativity of the mind maps along with student comments indicated their ability to apply critical thinking skills to the specific content and technologies being examined. Overall CEQ mean scores were high (M = 4.35), indicital health technologies.

High sodium consumption has been associated with an increased risk of gastric cancer. The mean daily sodium intake in the United States substantially exceeds the national recommended amount. The low sodium-DASH diet has been shown to decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease in the United States, but its impact on gastric cancer has not been well studied. We therefore aimed to model the impact and cost-effectiveness of the low sodium-DASH diet for gastric cancer prevention in the U.S.

A Markov cohort state-transition model was developed to simulate the impact of the low sodium-DASH diet on gastric cancer outcomes for the average 40-year-old in the United States compared to no intervention. Primary outcomes of interest were gastric cancer incidence and incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICER).

Our model found that compared to the no intervention cohort, the risk of gastric cancer decreased by 24.8% for males and 21.2% for females on the low sodium-DASH diet. 27 cases and 14 cases per 10,000 individuals were prevented for males and females, respectively, in the intervention group. The ICER for the low sodium-DASH diet strategy was $287,726 for males and $423,878 for females compared to the no intervention strategy.

Using a Markov model of gastric cancer risk, we found that adherence to a low sodium-DASH diet could decrease the risk of gastric cancer. This intervention was not cost-effective due to the highcost of a low sodium-DASH accordant diet, but significantly improved for high-risk populations and when the cost of the diet became slightly more affordable.
