rgoing LVAD support also showing a potential benefit in promoting myocardial reverse remodeling and recovery. In the past decade, several cell therapy-based clinical trials showed promising results in various chronic and advanced heart failure patient cohorts. Future cell treatment strategies should aim for more personalized therapeutic approaches by defining optimal stem cell type or their combination, dose, and delivery method for an individual patient adjusted for patient's age and stage/duration of heart failure. In 2019, 30,615 asylum claims were made in Quebec, representing almost half of the claims made in Canada. Asylum-seeking families with young children (0 to 5 years) represent a significant proportion of this population. Canada, as well as Quebec, have a responsibility to protect asylum seekers and to ensure that public policies promote health and well-being, especially among children. However, certain existing public policies exclude asylum seekers and are negatively affecting families. This commentary seeks to raise awareness among all those involved in policymaking, especially decision-makers, regarding asylum-seekers and three policy domains that are contributing to poverty, social isolation, and reduced access to care among asylum-seeking families with young children. These include the lack of eligibility for child benefits, the limited access to affordable daycare, and barriers to accessing family doctors. Consequently, both parents and children suffer impacts to their health and well-being. We are calling on our governments to assume their responsibilities and eliminate these inequities, and to ensure that the health of asylum seekers is considered in all policies.

The purpose was to synthesize the available literature on what factors influence vaccine hesitancy of parents of preschoolers in Canada.

Databases (e.g., CINAHL, PubMed, OVID, Proquest) were searched for relevant research articles produced between January 2009 and October 2019. click here Articles were required to examine vaccine uptake in children aged 0-7, in the English language, and focused within a Canadian context. Articles were excluded if they focused on uptake of the influenza vaccine and if the study population was children with chronic health conditions. A total of 367 articles were reviewed and 12 met the criteria for inclusion in this review.

This review found that between 50% and 70% of children are completely vaccinated at 2years old, with up to 97% having received at least one vaccine, and 2-5% receiving no vaccines. This review found that trust and access to health care providers is significantly associated with vaccine uptake, likely more important than parents' vaccine knowledge, and may compensate for challenges related to socio-economic status and family dynamics.

Vaccine programs need to be created that are accessible to all families, with an awareness of the significant impact of trust on vaccine uptake. Future research should include consistent measures of vaccine uptake, and data from First Nation communities, and should examine how increased trust between health care providers and parents of preschool children would increase vaccine uptake in Canada.

This review seeks to identify, appraise and synthesize all studies on the association between hormonal contraceptive use and attempted or completed suicide. A systematic review was performed in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. Relevant citations were identified from three bibliographic databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, and PsycInfo). Cross-sectional, cohort and case control studies were included. Quality of studies was assessed with validated tools, and a narrative synthesis was conducted to summarize study findings. Nine studies reporting on six samples (n = 683,198) were included. Three studies reported data for the association between hormonal contraceptive use and suicide attempts, and five studies reported data on completed suicides. Both protective and adverse associations between hormonal contraception and risk of suicide were identified. The evidence of the association was weakened by low to moderate methodological quality of studies. Our review found there was substantial variability in the relationships reported between hormonal contraceptive use and suicide risk. Going forward, researchers investigating this topic are encouraged to use population-based samples to take efforts to control for important confounding variables. Additional research is also needed to investigate the effects of more recent hormonal contraceptive methods on suicide risk.Aquaporin-4 (AQP4) is located mainly in the astrocytic end-feet around cerebral blood vessels and regulates ion and water homeostasis in the brain. While deletion of AQP4 is shown to reduce amyloid-β (Aβ) clearance and exacerbate Aβ peptide accumulation in plaques and vessels of Alzheimer's disease mouse models, the mechanism and clearing pathways involved are debated. Here, we investigated how inhibiting the function of AQP4 in healthy male C57BL/6 J mice impacts clearance of Aβ40, the more soluble Aβ isoform. Using two-photon in vivo imaging and visualizing vessels with Sulfurodamine 101 (SR101), we first showed that Aβ40 injected as a ≤ 0.5-μl volume in the cerebral cortex diffused rapidly in parenchyma and accumulated around blood vessels. In animals treated with the AQP4 inhibitor TGN-020, the perivascular Aβ40 accumulation was significantly (P  less then  0.001) intensified by involving four times more vessels, thus suggesting a generalized clearance defect associated with vessels. Increasing the injecting volume to ≥ 0.
