Studies examining Posttraumatic Stress Disorder symptom clusters, suicidal ideation, and variables described in the Joiner's interpersonal theory of suicidal behavior were cross-sectional.
We tested whether the relation between the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder symptom clusters and suicidal ideation is mediated by perceived burdensomeness and thwarted belongingness (variables of the interpersonal theory of suicidal behavior) in military personnel with current suicidal ideation using longitudinal design. DSM-IV model with reexperiencing, avoidance, numbing, and hyperarousal clusters was used. Structural equation modelling was used to test separate models for each symptom cluster with a symptom cluster at baseline, month 1 perceived burdensomeness and thwarted belongingness, and month 3 suicidal ideation, controlling for baseline values of the month 1 and month 3 variables.
Analysis of direct non-mediation models showed that baseline reexperiencing (p=.08) and avoidance (p=.07) symptom clusters marginally predicted month 3 suicidal ideation. The mediation analyses showed indirect effects from baseline reexperiencing, avoidance, and hyperarousal to suicidal ideation at month 3 through perceived burdensomeness at month 1. The mechanism driving development of suicidal ideation in military personnel with PTSD may be different from the mechanism in other samples. Doing a phone interview limited us to use questionnaires instead of a clinical interview.

This study aimed to determine the relationship between frailty, fear of falling, and depression with HRQoL in nursing home eligible community-dwelling older adults. A cross-sectional correlational design and chart review were conducted. Eighty four participants (mean age = 70.33 [SD = 6.33]) were surveyed on frailty, fear of falling, depression and physical and mental health measures of HRQoL. Increased frailty, fear of falling, and depression were associated with decreased physical and mental health and well-being. When controlling for sociodemographics, frailty and fear of falling were predictive of lower physical health and well-being whereas depression was independently predictive of lower mental health and well-being. The results of this study will assist in assessment and targeted interventions for modifiable risk factors that affect the HRQoL of nursing home eligible community-dwelling older adults.Geochemical fractionation study of cadmium (Cd) in combination with equilibrium based chemical speciation modelling (visual MINTEQ) in finer sediment samples (silt and clay portion), provided a better description of Cd bioavailability for sessile organisms (like oysters) in the Zuari estuary, west coast of India. A substantial fraction of total Cd in the finer sediment samples was present as water soluble, exchangeable and carbonate/bicarbonate forms and showed a strong positive relationship with Cd-bioaccumulation in oysters (Magallana sp.) from the study area. Cadmium bioaccumulation (ranged from 2.4-7.9 mg·kg-1) in soft tissues of the edible oyster was high (higher than the maximum permissible limit for human consumption) throughout the study period of one year. Equilibrium based speciation modelling suggest that sedimentary CdCl2, CdCl+ and Cd2+ were responsible for Cd bioaccumulation in the oysters. There is still a lack of understanding of its origin, transmission, and treatment methods. Understanding the influencing factors of COVID-19 can help mitigate its spread, but little research on the spatial factors has been conducted. Therefore, this study explores the effects of urban geometry and socio-demographic factors on the COVID-19 cases in Hong Kong. For each patient, the places they visited during the incubation period before going to hospital were identified, and matched with corresponding attributes of urban geometry (i.e., building geometry, road network and greenspace) and socio-demographic factors (i.e., demographic, educational, economic, household and housing characteristics) based on the coordinates. The local cases were then compared with the imported cases using stepwise logistic regression, logistic regression with case-control of time, and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression to identify factors influencing local disease transmission.
