There has been a lack of noninvasive method capable of predicting immunohistochemistry index for breast cancer patients. This paper proposes a machine learning method to predict the immunohistochemical index of breast cancer patients by using noninvasive contrast-enhanced ultrasound. A total of 119 breast cancer patients were included in this retrospective study. Each patient implemented the pathological examination of immunohistochemical expression and underwent contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging of breast tumor. Efficacious intraperitoneal and systemic combination chemotherapy regimens to treat patients with peritoneal metastases have recently been developed. CASE PRESENTATION A 74-year-old man with gastric cancer T4b (transverse mesocolon) N3 M1 (peritoneum) received combination chemotherapy with intraperitoneal administration of paclitaxel, intravenous oxaliplatin, and oral S-1. Eight courses of combined chemotherapy had remarkable anti-tumor effects on the primary lesion, lymph node metastases, and peritoneal metastases. Total gastrectomy with regional lymph node dissection was performed. Pathological examination revealed no viable tumor cells in the resected specimens. After gastrectomy, the patient received 25 courses of the same chemotherapy without oxaliplatin and has no evidence of recurrence 24 months later. DISCUSSION Therapeutic approaches including systemic chemotherapy, extended resection, and heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy have been used to treat patients with peritoneal metastases. Repeat therapy with intraperitoneal paclitaxel has been used recently. Intraperitoneal administration of paclitaxel results in prolonged retention in the peritoneal cavity with effects against peritoneal metastases. Repeated administration of paclitaxel does not cause adhesions in the peritoneal cavity. Whether combined antiresorptive and anabolic therapy result in superior fracture risk reduction than monotherapy is untested.OBJECTIVES To investigate whether cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR)-derived myocardial strains were abnormal in asymptomatic heart transplant (HT) patients with normal left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and to detect the relationship between CMR-derived myocardial strain parameters and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) in asymptomatic HT patients. METHODS A total of 72 HT patients and 35 healthy volunteers underwent 1.5-T MR scanning. The examination protocol included basic cine imaging and LGE. The deformation registration algorithm (DRA) and feature tracking (FT) software were used for the strain analyses. Myocardial strain measurements included left ventricular global longitudinal strain (LVGLS), LV global circumferential strain (LVGCS), LV global radial strain (LVGRS) and right ventricular longitudinal strain (RVLS). RESULTS Compared with healthy volunteers, HT patients had significantly decreased DRA- and FT- derived myocardial strain measurements (all p  less then  0.05). METHODS This monocentric prospective study enclosed 54 LHCs that were extracted during autopsy, fixed in formalin, and underwent a PMCT scan (64-row multidetector CT, helical pitch). Two radiologists independently analyzed the LHC scans for image quality (IQ) and fractures (4-point Likert scales). A specialized forensic preparator dissected the specimens under the stereomicroscope. The PMFP results were standardized documented, and used as the standard of reference for the comparison to PMCT. RESULTS The PMCT-IQ of 95% of the LHC images was rated as good or excellent. IQ was decreased by decay, incisions during autopsy, and separation of the hyoid from the cartilaginous components in 7, 3, and 12 specimens, respectively. PMFP detected 119 fractures in 34 LHCs (63.0%). PMCT identified 91 fractures in 32 specimmography can confirm violence against the neck as cause of death.OBJECTIVES To evaluate the biochemical milieu in testes with nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA) by using proton MR spectroscopy (1H-MRS) in detecting differences in testicular metabolites between histological stages of NOA and in assessing the possible presence of spermatozoa before microdissection testicular sperm extraction (mTESE). METHODS Forty-nine NOA men and fifty age-matched controls were included in this prospective study. A single-voxel point-resolved spectroscopy sequence with TR/TE (2000/25 ms) was used. NOA testes were classified using the higher Johnsen score (hJS) (group 1, hJS ≥ 8; and group 2, hJS less then  8). Nonparametric statistical tests were used to assess differences in normalized metabolite concentrations, defined as ratios of the metabolite concentrations versus creatine concentration between (a) NOA and controls, (b) NOA groups, and (c) NOA with positive and negative sperm retrieval. RESULTS Normalized concentrations of total choline (median 0.396 vs 1.09 mmol/kg, p = 0.002), myo-inle metabolic signature of spermatogenesis in NOA population by assessing the possible presence of sperm after mTESE.OBJECTIVES The loss of skeletal muscle mass is widely considered a predictor of poor survival and toxicity in breast cancer patients. The aim of this study is to evaluate if there is pectoralis muscle area (PMA) variation, reflecting loss of skeletal muscle mass, on consecutive MRI examinations after neoadjuvant chemotherapy. METHODS The retrospective study protocol was approved by our institutional review board. A total of n = 110 consecutive patients (mean age 56 ± 11 years) who were treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) for histologically proven primary breast cancer between January 2017 and January 2019 and in whom tumor response was checked with standard breast MRI were included. Two radiologists calculated the pectoralis muscle cross-sectional area before and after NAC. RESULTS Time between the MRI examinations, before starting NAC and after completing NAC, was 166.8 ± 50 days. PMA calculated pre-NAC (8.14 cm2) was larger than PMA calculated post-NAC (7.03 cm2) (p  less then  0.001). According to the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) criteria, there were no significant differences between responders (complete or partial response) and non-responders (p = 0.362). The multivariate regression analysis did not show any significant relationships between ΔPMA and age, time between MRI exams, estrogen and progesterone receptor status, human epidermal growth factor receptor status (HER-2), Ki-67 expression, lymph node status, RECIST criteria, histological type, average lesion size, molecular categories, and grade. Inter-reader (k = 0.72) and intra-reader agreement (0.69 and 0.71) in PMA assessment were good. CONCLUSIONS Pectoralis muscle mass varies in breast cancer patients undergoing NAC and this difference can be estimated directly on standard breast MRI. KEY POINTS • Pectoralis muscle area variation reflects loss of skeletal muscle mass. • Pectoralis muscle area on MRI is reduced after NAC. • Pectoralis muscle mass loss seems independent from other variables.
