Photosynthetic efficiency of zooxanthellate medusae significantly decreased at 7 and 27 µgL-1 atrazine, but atrazine did not affect the Chla content or zooxanthellae density. Our results showed that even though atrazine inhibited photosynthesis, zooxanthellae were not expelled from the host. We conclude that the presence of zooxanthellae did not increase the susceptibility of C. xamachana medusae to atrazine.Long-term survivors of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) are at high risk of developing second primary neoplasms, including leukemia. For these patients, the use of classic tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), such as imatinib mesylate, is strongly discouraged, since this treatment causes a tremendous increase of tumor and stem cell migration and invasion. We aimed to develop agents useful for the treatment of patients with GBM and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) using an alternative mechanism of action from the TKIs, specifically based on the inhibition of tubulin polymerization. Compounds 7 and 25, as planned, not only inhibited tubulin polymerization, but also inhibited the proliferation of both GMB and CML cells, including those expressing the T315I mutation, at nanomolar concentrations. In in vivo experiments in BALB/cnu/nu mice injected subcutaneously with U87MG cells, in vivo, 7 significantly inhibited GBM cancer cell proliferation, in vivo tumorigenesis, and tumor growth, tumorigenesis and angiogenesis. Compound 7 was found to block human topoisomerase II (hTopoII) selectively and completely, at a concentration of 100 μM.

Tuberculosis (TB), as a major public health concern, is affecting almost 10 million people globally. At present, diagnostic and screening efforts mainly focus on positive smear results. Therefore, the number of extra pulmonary and negative sputum TB is rising and hampering the diagnosis and treatment process due to the large number of false negatives. Rare cases such as solitary splenic TB are usually seen in patients with splenic abnormalities, spleen trauma, immunosuppression, sickle cell disease, pyogenic infections, etc. PRESENTATION OF CASE A 40-year-old female with no comorbidity came with chief complaint of early satiety every mealtime and epigastric pain in the last 6months prior to admission. There was no significant positive examination except for positive IGRA test and enlargement of spleen with multiple cystic lesions on abdominal CT. We performed laparotomy with splenectomy followed by a histopathology examination which showed features of primary tubercular abscess.

In the immunocompromised patient, the visceral abdomen is usually involved and a part of miliary TB. However, this case revealed the rare possibility of a healthy person with primary isolated tubercular splenic abscess while being immunocompetent and lacking any comorbidity.

Splenic TB diagnosis is difficult in patients lacking pulmonary involvement and without specific symptoms. Thorough examinations and clinical expertise are needed to provide accurate diagnosis and treat uncommon forms of TB and cases with negative smear results in consideration of rising prevalence and difficult disease control.

Low-Grade Appendiceal Mucinous Neoplasms (LAMN) are noninvasive epithelial tumors of the appendix. Symptomatology is unspecific and can simulate appendicitis. The multidisciplinary approach for the correct diagnosis and management of this kind of tumor is important, as the prognosis depends on it.

A 70-years-old man with an appendiceal picture is presented. McBurney and Blumberg's signs were found and the Echography has reported an acute appendicitis. He underwent laparoscopic surgery, founding a Tumor in the Cecum of 10×5cm. We decided to perform an appendectomy with a total cecectomy. The pathological diagnosis was a LAMN. Ten months later, a Computed Tomography (CT) Scan control was performed reporting no evidence of Tumoral activity or Distance Metastasis, neither pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) evidence.

LAMN has been a very controversial tumor. The definitive management is appendectomy. selleck There are controversies about the laparoscopic and open approach, and when there are positive margins. The stage was a pTis (LAMN) pNx according to the 8th edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC). The prognosis depends on the tumoral stage and the presence of PMP. In our case, we have performed a CT scan follow up and there was no Tumoral activity or Distance Metastasis, neither PMP evidence.

LAMN is a very interesting and rare tumor. The diagnosis of this case was a real challenge. Our management was simple due to the tumoral stage. Pathology played a very important role in treatment and prognosis.

Intestinal obstruction considered to be one of the most common surgical presentation. Adhesions secondary to previous operations, hernias, neoplasms, inflammatory bowel disease, intussusception, or volvulus are the usual causes of intestinal obstruction but bezoar can presents in 0.4-4%. Bezoar can be trapped in different locations throughout the gastrointestinal tract and it can be solitary or multiple lesions.

This is a 37-year-old male, known case of diabetes mellitus, Presented to the Emergency Department complaining of generalized abdominal pain for 2days duration. Associated with abdominal distention, fever, nausea, vomiting and obstipation. There was a history of persimmon intake. Unremarkable past surgical history. On examination, He was tachycardic, other vital signs were within normal. Abdominal examination showed abdominal distention and Sluggish bowel sound. Abdominal X-ray revealed multiple air-fluid levels. An abdominal CT scan with IV contrast revealed an intra-luminal mass in the ileum and intra-gastric mass with suspicious of bezoars. He underwent exploratory laparotomy, gastrostomy to remove intra-gastric bezoar, and enterotomy to remove the ileal bezoar.

Intestinal obstruction is considered to be the most common complication of this entity; other possible complications include gastric ulcer, gastritis, and gastric perforation. Due to limitations of endoscopy and barium enema in the diagnosis of bezoar, Abdominal CT-scan is considered to be the gold standard in the diagnosis. The management of phytobezoar can be either conservative or surgical, depends on the lesion size and location.

Although intestinal obstruction secondary to bezoar is rare, multiple levels of gastrointestinal obstruction should raise the suspicion of bezoar.

The internal jugular vein thrombosis is usually due to intravenous drug abuse, prolonged central venous catheterization or deep head-neck infections or trauma. Related malignancies, or inflammatory etiologies are described. Our case is interesting by the ingestion of a sewing needle that passes from the pharynx to the internal jugular vein via migration, leading to life-threatening complications deep neck space infection and internal jugular vein thrombosis.

We report a case of a 40years old patient, for acute cervical cellulitis in a context of odynophagia and fever, a CT scan revealed a jugular vein thrombosis, penetrated by a metal density foreign body. The diagnosis of ingested foreign body complicated by cervical cellulitis and thrombosis of the internal jugular vein was made. The patient underwent neck surgery with intravenous antibiotics. The postoperative course was uneventful, after one year of follow-up, no complications have been observed.

no consensus has been reached concerning the management of postoperative and post traumatic vein thrombosis. Taking into account the risk of extension of the thrombus and the hemorrhagic risk each case should involve discussions among a multidisciplinary team.

The internal jugular vein thrombosis is a rare complication of ingested foreign bodies which may lead to life threat. The early diagnosis and adequate treatment of its life-threatening complications may result in excellent prognosis.

Malignant pheochromocytomas are rare endocrine tumors that develop within chromaffin tissue. The diagnosis of malignancy is based on neoplastic recurrence or the presence of metastasis in organs that lack chromaffin tissue. We report a series of four cases because of their diagnostic and therapeutic particularities.

we describe four clinical cases of patients with malignant pheochromocytoma whose Menard triad "headache-palpitations-sweating" was present in three out of four patients, the methoxylated derivatives were measured in 4 patients, 3 of which had high values, all of our patients carried out a CT scan which objectified signs of malignancy, MRI was performed on a single patient; presenting with a neoplastic recurrence; looking for a locoregional invasion.

Pheochromocytoma (PC) is a rare neuroendocrine tumor derived from the chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla. Its annual incidence is 2 to 8 per million adults. A peak frequency is observed between 30 and 40years of age. Approximately 10% of pheochromocytomas are malignant and in 10% of cases, bilateral localization is observed. Criteria for malignancy include the invasion of neighboring organs, a large tumor, the presence of lymphadenopathy on imaging, or fixation on scintigraphy. Surgery for MAP is not always curative. In the case of multiple liver metastases, treatment is based on adrenalectomy, which can be effectively combined with chemoembolization, cryoablation, or radiofrequency techniques.

The main prognostic factors of the malignant pheochromocytomas are a large tumor volume, the existence or number of visceral metastases, and the presence of a mutation in the SDHB (Succinate dehydrogenase B) gene.

The selection, which includes 8 sakes, 9 white, rosé, and sparkling wines, 9 genuine champagnes, as well as 5 types of beer, was made to uncover the umami potential of different types of fermented beverages, in particular whether long yeast contact and ageing may influence the contents of free glutamate that is known to elicit umami sensation. The data show that in particular sakes as well as some beers, wines and champagnes with long yeast contact contain appreciable amounts of free glutamate. The results are discussed in the context of food pairing where umami synergy can be achieved by combining fermented beverages with long yeast contact with food rich in free nucleotides.
