Nordstrom's NYC flagship store will highlight eight Black-owned businesses during an in-store marketplace from February 14, through March 6. The market will feature clothing, home goods and food from Caribbean lifestyle-inspired Chen Burkett New York; soulful clothing label Savant Studios; heavy metal jewelry brand Heavy Metals NYC; Modish Decor Pillows, and Brooklyn Brewed Sorrel.

Petit Kouraj

Founded by fashion stylist Nasrin Jean-Baptiste, Petit Kouraj is the Haitian Creole word for "little courage." After many years of styling and amassing experience as an international fashion designer, she recognized her innate calling and created a line of luxurious bags that combine knitwear, sculpture, and cultural identity.

Jean-Baptiste worked with a group of women from Haiti to create her crochet bags. She used 100 percent cotton net, rayon fringe and leather handles. They can spend up twelve hours working on one bag.

Brooklyn-based brand Vavvoune is a brand that focuses on unique designed silhouettes that are adorned with a dazzling color palette, such as this fringe crossbody. Choose the Michelle tote from the brand that features an abstract pattern that has an edge that is beveled and a pouch to match.

Valerie Blaise

Created by self-taught designer/artisan Valerie Blaise in Brooklyn New York. VAVVOUNE is a leather accessory brand that is renowned for its distinctive design. Moments of nostalgia, moods and functionality bring ideas into the creative process and overall aesthetic of the brand.

It's not a secret that Black designers are reworking classic shapes into modern essentials, but Valerie's brand name goes one step further by offering bags that are chic and sophisticated. Her collections, which are designed with architecturally-inspired accents, are ideal for everything from the desk to a meal.
