The risk quotient (RQ) model was used to evaluate the above data. The results of exposure and risk assessment showed that the margin of exposure (MOE) was 1.28 × 107-2.5 × 107 and the RQmax was 0.0266. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) standard and categories of RQ indicates that the estimated dietary exposure to TBBPA is unlikely to raise significant health concerns. This is the first report on the occurrence and risk assessment of TBBPA in waters from Xiongan New Area, which will be helpful for further risk assessment of other persistent organic pollutants. At present, the toxicological data of TBBPA in the biological body of Baiyang Lake is limited. In addition, more accurate and convenient approaches for the risk assessment of TBBPA should be explored.Pesticides play an important role in promoting agricultural development, while their unreasonable use has led to environmental problems. Chlorpyrifos (CPF), a typical organophosphate pesticide, is used globally as an insecticide in agriculture. The extensive application of CPF has resulted in water contamination, and CPF has been detected in rivers, lakes, seawater, and even in rain. In the present review, CPF was selected due to its extensive use in agriculture and higher detection rate in surface waters. In this review we summarised the evidence related to CPF pollution and focused on discussing the ecotoxicity of CPF to aquatic systems and revealed the mechanism of action of CPF. The aim of this literature review was to summarise the knowledge of the toxicity to marine and freshwater organisms of CPF as well as try to select a series of sensitive biomarkers, which are suitable for ecotoxicological assessment and environmental monitoring in aquatic systems.Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a major threat to public health that causes infections in hospitals, communities, and animal husbandry. Livestock-associated MRSA (LA-MRSA) is defined as MRSA possessing staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) IV or V, both of which lacks the Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) gene but has variable combinations of antimicrobial susceptibility. This study focused on Taiwan's subtropical river basin and the Puzih River, which converges from tributaries flowing through downtown and animal husbandry areas. MRSA was detected at a rate of 7.8% in the tributaries, which was higher than downstream (2.1%). The ratio of multidrug-resistant (MDR) MRSA (n = 30) to total MRSA isolates (n = 39) was 0.769, and most of the MDR MRSA isolates (66.7%, 20/30) exhibited resistance to chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, clindamycin, erythromycin, sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim, and tetracycline. The number of MDR MRSA isolates in the tributaries was also higher than the downstream regions of the Puzih River. The majority of MRSA isolates (64.1%) observed in this study possessed SCCmec type IV without PVL, which is typical for LA-MRSA. N-Acetyl-DL-methionine solubility dmso Enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus PCR (ERIC-PCR) typing aided the discrimination of resistance patterns among SCCmec types. This study highlights the threat to human health posed by the waterborne transmission of MDR LA-MRSA.Two substrates saturated with crude oil, a desert soil sample (17.3% oil) and an olive-pomace (plant-based oil sorbent) sample (41% oil) showed effective self-cleaning via their own native microorganisms. The oil in such systems did not gather in one compact layer as it may be expected, but became dispensed as vesicles of varying dimensions connected together with narrow tunnels. Bacteria colonized the oil vesicles but only at the borders between the oil and the watery substrates. Through this architectural arrangement, the cells were capable of absorbing oil through their oil-contact surfaces and oxygen, water and water soluble nutrients through their substrate-contact surfaces. The cells involved were those of indigenous hydrocarbonoclastic bacterial communities. Many of those bacteria also tolerated and removed the amended heavy-metals, Hg2+, Cd2+, Pb2+, AsO43- and AsO33-. In the presence of heavy-metals, some of the bacterial species particularly of the pseudomonads exhibited bizarre pleomorphic cell-forms. It was concluded that even environments toxified with extremely high oil concentrations and heavy-metals can be remediated rather effectively via their already existing native microorganisms. This study assessed the potential of Moringa oleifera leaves ethanol extract (MLEE) in attenuating the detrimental effects of cobalt dichloride (CoCl2) on rat liver. Forty rats were assigned to five equal groups control group, MLEE-treated group, CoCl2-treated group, prophylaxis co-treated group, and therapeutic co-treated group. The levels of Co, hepatic injury markers, total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and oxidative stress biomarkers (reactive oxygen species [ROS] and protein carbonyl [PC]) were evaluated. Comet assay was used to evaluate the extent of DNA damage. Further, the expression profile of DNA-damage effector genes was assayed by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) analysis. Immunohistochemical analysis of heat shock protein (HSP-70) in hepatocytes was conducted. The results showed that the exposure of CoCl2 to rats resulted in declined TAC, elevated oxidative injury, and induced DNA damage markers. Upregulation of mRNA expression of tumor suppressor protein (P53), apoptosis inducing factor (AIF), and apoptotic peptidase activating factor 1 (Apaf-1) was observed. The immunostaining density of HSP-70 expression was found to be elevated. Thus, MLEE reduced the CoCl2-induced genotoxicity by preventing CoCl2-induced generation of ROS, and protected against ROS mediated-oxidative injury and DNA damage. Moreover, the expression of DNA damage effector genes was affected. Based on these results, we conclude that MLEE is more effective when administered as a prophylactic regimen with the exposure to CoCl2.Copper (Cu) is a necessary trace mineral due to its biological activity. Excessive Cu can induce inflammatory response in humans and animals, but the underlying mechanism is still unknown. Here, 240 broilers were used to study the effects of excessive Cu on oxidative stress and NF-κB-mediated inflammatory responses in immune organs. Chickens were fed with diet containing different concentrations of Cu (11, 110, 220, and 330 mg of Cu/kg dry matter). The experiment lasted for 49 days. Spleen, thymus, and bursa of Fabricius (BF) on day 49 were collected for histopathological observation and assessment of oxidative stress status. Additionally, the mRNA and protein levels of NF-κB and inflammatory cytokines were also analyzed. The results indicated that excess Cu could increase the number and area of splenic corpuscle as well as the ratio of cortex and medulla in thymus and BF. Furthermore, excessive Cu intake could decrease activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px); but increase contents of malondialdehyde (MDA), TNF-α, IL-1, IL-1β; up-regulate mRNA levels of TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-1, IL-1β, IL-2, iNOS, COX-2, NF-κB and protein levels of TNF-α, IFN-γ, NF-κB, p-NF-κB in immune organs.
