situation like endosulfan-sulfate (e.g., 99% and 1% in water and sediment, respectively). Finally, it was concluded that the application of QWASI in combination with passive sampling technique allowed an insight to the fate process of the studied OCPs and helped actual concentration predictions. Therefore, the results of this study can also be used to perform risk assessment and investigate the environmental exposure of pesticide residues.Psoriasis (Ps) and Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) are characterized by a multifactorial etiology, involving genetic and environmental factors. The present study aimed to investigate polymorphisms (SNPs) within genes involved in extracellular matrix and cell homeostasis and microRNA genes as susceptibility biomarkers for Ps and PsA. Bioinformatic analysis on public RNA-seq data allowed for selection of rs12488457 (A/C, COL6A5), rs13081855 (G/T, COL8A1), rs3812111 (A/T, COL10A1) and rs2910164 (C/G, MIR146A) as candidate biomarkers. These polymorphisms were analyzed by Real-Time PCR in a cohort of 1417 Italian patients (393 Ps, 424 PsA, 600 controls). Statistical and bioinformatic tools were utilized for assessing the genetic association and predicting the effects of the selected SNPs. rs12488457, rs13081855 and rs2910164 were significantly associated with both Ps (p = 1.39 × 10-8, p = 4.52 × 10-4, p = 0.04, respectively) and PsA (p = 5.12 × 10-5, p = 1.19 × 10-6, p = 0.01, respectively). rs3812111, instead, was associated only with PsA (p = 0.005). Bioinformatic analysis revealed common and differential biological pathways involved in Ps and PsA. COL6A5 and COL8A1 take part in the proliferation and angiogenic pathways which are altered in Ps/PsA and contribute to inflammation together with MIR146A. On the other hand, the exclusive association of COL10A1 with PsA highlighted the specific involvement of bone metabolism in PsA.The control and promotion of plant and crop growth are important challenges globally. In this study, we have developed a nanomaterial-assisted bionic strategy for accelerating plant growth. Although nanomaterials have been shown to be toxic to plants, we demonstrate herein that graphene oxide can be used as a regulator tool for enhancing plant growth and stability. Graphene oxide was added to the growth medium of Arabidopsis thaliana L. as well as injected into the stem of the watermelon plant. We showed that with an appropriate amount provided, graphene oxide had a positive effect on plant growth in terms of increasing the length of roots, the area of leaves, the number of leaves, and the formation of flower buds. In addition, graphene oxide affected the watermelon ripeness, increasing the perimeter and sugar content of the fruit. We believe that graphene oxide may be used as a strategy for enabling the acceleration of both plant growth and the fruit ripening process. To understand oxidative stress, antioxidant defense, and redox signaling in health and disease it is essential to assess protein thiol redox state. Protein thiol redox state is seldom assessed immunologically because of the inability to distinguish reduced and reversibly oxidized thiols by Western blotting. An underappreciated opportunity exists to use Click PEGylation to realize the transformative power of simple, time and cost-efficient immunological techniques. Click PEGylation harnesses selective, bio-orthogonal Click chemistry to separate reduced and reversibly oxidized thiols by selectively ligating a low molecular weight polyethylene glycol moiety to the redox state of interest. The resultant ability to disambiguate reduced and reversibly oxidized species by Western blotting enables Click PEGylation to assess protein thiol redox state. In the present review, to enable investigators to effectively harness immunological techniques to assess protein thiol redox state we critique the chemistry, promise and challenges of Click PEGylation.Centaurea raphanina subsp. mixta (DC.) Runemark is a wild edible species endemic to Greece. This study evaluated the chemical composition and bioactive properties of wild and cultivated C. raphanina subsp. mixta plants. Wild plants had higher nutritional value than cultivated ones, whereas cultivated plants contained more tocopherols. Glucose and sucrose were higher in cultivated plants and trehalose in wild ones. Oxalic and total organic acids were detected in higher amounts in cultivated samples. The main fatty acids were α-linolenic, linoleic and palmitic acid, while wild plants were richer in polyunsaturated fatty acids. Two pinocembrin derivatives were the main phenolic compounds being detected in higher amounts in wild plants. Regarding the antioxidant activity, wild and cultivated plants were more effective in the oxidative haemolysis (OxHLIA) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) assays, respectively. Selleck Aloxistatin Moreover, both extracts showed moderate cytotoxicity in non-tumor cell lines (PLP2), while cultivated plants were more effective against cervical carcinoma (HeLa), breast carcinoma (MCF-7) and non-small lung cancer (NCI-H460) cell lines. Finally, wild plants showed higher antimicrobial activity than cultivated plants against specific pathogens. In conclusion, the cultivation of C. raphanina subsp. mixta showed promising results in terms of tocopherols content and antiproliferative effects, however further research is needed to decrease oxalic acid content. The present study evaluated the application of the basic and extended (incorporated primary caregivers' levels of acculturation) Family Stress Model (FSM) to understand the effect of family financial stress and primary caregivers' levels of acculturation on children's emotional and behavioral problems among refugees in Australia. A total of 658 refugee children aged 5-17 and their primary caregivers (n = 410) from the third wave of a nationwide longitudinal project were included in this study. We used multilevel structural equation models with bootstrapping to test the indirect effects of family financial stress and caregivers' levels of acculturation (including English proficiency, self-sufficiency, social interaction, and self-identity) on children's emotional and behavioral problems through caregivers' psychological distress and parenting styles. The results showed that the extended FSM improved the model fit statistics, explaining 45.8% variation in children's emotional and behavioral problems. Family financial stress, caregivers' English proficiency, and self-identity had indirect effects on children's emotional and behavioral problems through caregivers' psychological distress and hostile parenting.
