To evaluate the diagnostic performance of MDCT with axial images and multiplanar reformatted (MPR) images from the urothelial phase of the bladder in patients with hematuria using cystoscopy as the reference standard.

Our IRB for human investigation approved this study, and informed consent was waived. We included 192 patients (121 men, 71 women; age range 17-90years; mean age ± SD 60 ± 14years) who underwent contrast-enhanced MDCT (scan delay 70s; section thickness 2mm) and conventional cystoscopy examination for painless gross hematuria or recurrent microscopic hematuria. Two radiologists in consensus interpreted the images for the presence or absence of bladder lesions. Using the kappa statistic, the patient-based agreement was determined between the CT and cystoscopic findings. We compared the diagnostic performance of axial images to those with coronal and sagittal reformations to detect bladder lesions.

MDCT showed excellent agreement between cystoscopy-axial scans (κ = 0.896) and axial with reformatted images (κ = 0.948). The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of MDCT were 94%, 96%, and 95% in the axial scans and 98%, 97%, and 97% in the axial with reformatted images, respectively. All statistical parameters of diagnostic performance were similar between the axial and the reformatted images (p > .05).

To evaluate the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of Japanese men on active surveillance (AS) in the Prostate cancer Research International Active Surveillance study in Japan (PRIAS-JAPAN).

Participants were included in the PRIAS-JAPAN HRQoL study between January 2010 and March 2016. Their general HRQoL was assessed using a validated Japanese version of the Short-Form 8 Health Survey (SF-8) at enrolment and annually thereafter until discontinuation of AS. The SF-8 mental component summary (MCS) and physical component summary (PCS) of men on AS were compared with scores of the general population (norm-based score [NBS] 50) and MCS and PCS scores for men following AS were analysed over time. We tested whether MCS and PCS scores over time explained discontinuation of AS.

Five hundred and twenty-five patients enrolled, and the median age at baseline was 68years. At enrolment and after 1-, 2-, and 3-year follow-ups, the PCS and MCS scores were significantly higher than the NBS of the general Japanese population except for the median PCS at 3years. We found that age at diagnosis and time on AS negatively affected the PCS score of men on AS, while every additional year on AS led to a 0.27 point increase in MCS scores. Neither PCS nor MCS were predictors for discontinuation of AS.

Japanese men following an AS strategy for 3years reported better HRQoL compared with the general population, indicating that monitoring Japanese low-risk prostate cancer patients can be an effective treatment strategy.

The goal of the current study was to evaluate the effect of a standardized prostate mpMRI reporting template on urologists' understanding and confidence in counselling a patient on the results of the MRI. To do this we performed a survey study to assess the understanding and confidence of urologists reviewing reports prior to (pre) and after (post) adoption of a standardized mpMRI template.

Six urologists reviewed ten pre- and post- mpMRI templated reports and completed a survey to assess the clarity of key elements and the confidence in counseling the patient. selleck kinase inhibitor The urologists were blinded to the study objective. In primary prostate cancer (PCa) patients, accurate staging and histologic grading are crucial to guide treatment decisions.

F-DCFPyL (PSMA)-PET/CT has been successfully introduced for (re)staging PCa, showing high accuracy to localise PCa in lymph nodes and/or osseous structures. The diagnostic performance of

F-DCFPyL-PET/CT in localizing primary PCa within the prostate gland was assessed, allowing for PSMA-guided targeted-prostate biopsy.

Thirty patients with intermediate-/high-risk primary PCa were prospectively enrolled between May 2018 and May 2019 and underwent

F-DCFPyL-PET/CT prior to robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). Two experienced and blinded nuclear medicine physicians assessed tumour localisation within the prostate gland on PET/CT, using a 12-segment mapping model of the prostate. The same model was used by a uro-pathologist for the RARP specimens. Based on PET/CT imaging, a potential biopsy recommendation was given per patient, based on the size and PET-intensity of the suspatient detection (93%) and localisation of csPCa was found. Thus, 18F-DCFPyL-PET/CT potentially allows for accurate PSMA-targeted biopsy.

Long-term follow-up [median 3years and 5months (3;5years)] revealed that nine children use their CI (> 8h/day) and two became nonusers. In children aged below 3;2years at surgery, there was a substantial long-term increase in speech discrimination and subjective benefit. Children over 4;4years of age at CI surgery improved partially in audiological/subjective measurements. Among children above 5years, the SSQ score did not improve despite further slight improvement in speech discrimination long-term.

Our data suggest a critical age for CI surgery below 3years in children with congenital SSD for successful hearing rehabilitation. It is mandatory to identify children with SSD as early as bilaterally deaf children.

Our study was aimed to identify potential lncRNAs related to laryngeal cancer (LC) and explore their potential regulatory mechanisms.

RNA sequencing data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases were used to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to analyze the sensitivity and specificity of differentially expressed lncRNAs (DElncRNAs) as biomarkers. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was applied to identify co-expressed DElncRNAs and differentially expressed mRNAs (DEmRNAs) associated with clinical indicators. We performed functional enrichment analysis on target genes and constructed a lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA ceRNA network. The expression of lncRNA and mRNAs in ceRNA network were validated via RT-qPCR.

By differential expression analyzing TCGA and GEO data, 6 up-regulated DElncRNAs were consistently identified, and their predictive performance were suggested to be considerable via ROC curve. 1998 DEmRNAs and 6 lncRNAs were involved in the construction of WGCNA network, in which the MEblue module was positively correlated with clinical stage. Functional enrichment analysis of this module suggested that the functions of DEmRNAs were closely involved in PI3K/Akt pathway. A ceRNA network composed of MSC-AS1, miR-429, COL4A1 and ITGAV was constructed. It was verified by RT-qPCR that the lncRNA and mRNAs in the ceRNA network were highly expressed in multiple LC tissues.

Surgical resection in patients with extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (EHCC) with paraaortic lymph node metastasis (PALNM) remains controversial. The objective of this study was to investigate the prognostic impact of PALNM in resected EHCC.

The present retrospective study included 410 patients, including 16 patients with PALNM, who underwent surgical resection of EHCC between September 2002 and December 2018. These were compared to 9 patients in whom EHCC was not resected due to PALNM. The clinicopathological features and survival outcomes were investigated to identify the prognostic factors in resected EHCC.

The overall survival in the resected patients with PALNM was significantly better than that in unresected patients (median survival time [MST] 33.7 vs. 16.7months, p=0.009) and was not significantly worse than that of patients with regional lymph node metastasis (LNM) (MST 33.7 vs 36.0months, p=0.278). The multivariate analysis identified age > 70years, male sex, tumor location (perihilar), residual tumor status, histological grade, microscopic venous invasion, and regional LNM as independent prognostic factors.

There was no significant difference in survival between the resected patients with PALNM and patients with regional LNM, and PALNM was not a significant prognostic factor in the multivariate analysis. Surgical resection may be considered an acceptable approach for EHCC with PALNM in selected patients.
