Objectives While empagliflozin (25 mg) is used to treat type-2 diabetes mellitus patients with optimum renal functioning, its efficacy and safety in type-1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is not yet established. Therefore, this study aimed to compare insulin-treated T1DM patients' (with adequate renal functioning) glycemic and blood pressure control between the 25 mg empagliflozin recipients and placebo recipients. Methods Parallel-arm randomized controlled trials comparing the effect of daily administered 25 mg empagliflozin tablets in adjunct to insulin treatment with placebo and insulin treatment in T1DM patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate of 45 mL/min/1.73 m2 or more were eligible for inclusion. Trials were searched in PubMed, EMBASE, SCOPUS, and CENTRAL with no restriction on date and language. Risk of bias of trials was assessed and mean and standard deviation of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c, in %), systolic blood pressure (mmHg), and diastolic blood pressure (mmHg) at the end of the trial perinces.Introduction The major transcription factor, which modulates the epithelial-mesenchymal transition in different types of cancers, is known as TWIST oncogene. It binds to the promoter of E-cadherin and suppresses its transcription. The current study aims to assess the expression of TWIST protein in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), epithelial dysplasia (ED), and normal oral mucosa to verify whether such protein is useful as a marker in oral epithelium malignant transformation. Methods Thirty-five paraffin-embedded tissue samples of oral lesions with ED and OSCC and five samples of normal oral mucosa were immuostained with anti-TWIST antibody using the streptavidin peroxidase method. Results TWIST expression was negative in all cases of normal oral mucosa, whereas all cases of ED and OSCC showed positive immunoreactivity to TWIST varied from weak to strong expression. In ED, there was a significant difference between severe dysplasia and the other two types (P = 0.03). TWIST expression had no significant relationship with the clinical parameters of OSSC clinical stage and grade (degree of differentiation). Selleck Heptadecanoic acid Only two cases of OSCC with lymph node metastasis showed strong nuclear TWIST expression. Intergroups assessment indicated a significant increase of TWIST expression in OSCC compared to ED (P = 0.000). Conclusion A significant increase of TWIST expression in OSCC compared to ED may suggest its role in carcinogenesis, it may be a useful marker in malignant transformation of oral epithelium. Therefore, TWIST might be an important target for therapeutic approaches in patients with OSCC, which requires further investigations. Methods We conducted an open-label study including 180 sub-acute and chronic SCI patients. All patients received intrathecal autologous BMMNCs along with neurorehabilitation. 80-100 mL of bone marrow was aspirated and BMMNCs were obtained using density gradient separation. An average of 1.06 × 108 cells with 97% viability was administered through lumbar puncture immediately. After transplantation, all patients underwent neurorehabilitation. Patients were followed up after an average of 9 ± 7 months. They were assessed for functional symptomatic changes and the outcome measures used were functional independence measure (FIM) and walking index for SCI (WISCI). Results Patients showed symptomatic improvement in sitting/standing balance, bed mobility, trunk stability, upper limb function, mobility, sensation, bowel/bladder functions, and activities of daily living with no serious adverse events. Scores on FIM and WISCI showed statistically significant improvement. On subgroup analysis, it was found that early intervention and more than one dose of BMMNCs demonstrate a better functional outcome. Younger patients demonstrated better improvements in functional independence. Both cervical and dorsolumbar levels of injury show significant improvements in motor and sensory deficits. Conclusions Autologous BMMNC transplantation with neurorehabilitation is safe, effective, enhances functional recovery, and improves the quality of life of SCI patients in sub-acute and chronic stage. Methods A 5-year study was conducted on histopathologically diagnosed cases of tumor-like lesions of the uterine corpus. The lesions were classified according to the recent World Health Organization classification. Relevant clinical findings and histomorphologic details were noted and analyzed. Results A total of 85 cases of tumor-like lesions were included in the study. Multiparous women (88.2%) were most commonly affected and endometrial polyp (89.4%) was the most common lesion. Endometrial polyp showed a definite predilection during the 3rd and 4th decades of life (56.6%) whereas Arias-Stella reaction was seen in pregnant women and squamous metaplasia was seen in peri and postmenopausal women. Patients with endometrial polyp presented mostly with heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) (32%) and Arias-Stella reaction with HMB. Two cases of squamous metaplasia one presented with HMB and pain in the abdomen. Most of the endometrial polyps were single (90.8%) and sessile (68.4%), hyperplastic type (56.6%) and the adjacent endometrium were mostly atrophic (42.1%) or in proliferative phase (34.2%). The mean age in years of premenopausal women was 39.34 ± 5.01 and postmenopausal women were 62.66 ± 7.26. The mean size of the polyp, parity, number of polyps and association with leiomyoma was not significantly different between premenopausal and postmenopausal women. Adenomyosis was seen in 11 cases of the endometrial polyp. Conclusions Although tumor-like lesions of the uterine corpus as the name suggests tend to mimic the tumors, certain clinical and histopathological features can help in making the accurate diagnosis and thus avoid unnecessary radical surgeries.
