Slightly acidic electrolyzed water (SAEW) has been shown to offer a promising alternative for the inactivation of bacteria on egg surfaces, but the cuticle of the egg is damaged during this disinfection process. However, if SAEW disinfection is followed by chitosan (CS) coating treatment, this will construct a new membrane and prevent the loss of moisture and carbon dioxide through the damaged cuticle. Hence, the objective of this study was to investigate the efficacy of SAEW disinfection followed by CS coating treatment for improving the internal quality of eggs during 6 weeks of storage at 25 °C.
Scanning electron microscopy revealed that SAEW-treated eggs had deeper and wider cracks than control eggs stored between 0 and 21 days. Moreover, the depth and width of the cracks in the uncoated eggs increased as storage time increased. However, the CS coating method was successfully used on SAEW-disinfected eggs to construct a barrier against the negative effects of shell damage. After 6 weeks of storage at 25 °C, the yolk index, albumen pH, Haugh unit value and weight loss value of the SAEW + CS group were 0.31%, 9.01%, 63.72% and 5.35%, respectively.
A combination of SAEW and CS was more effective at maintaining internal egg quality than SAEW or CS treatments alone during storage. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.

Tetracycline antibiotics are employed for human and animal health and for speeding up growth rates. However, their presence in food products and environmental waters has been a concern for some years. Therefore, a variety of sample preparation methods have been developed for the analysis of tetracycline residues in these matrices.
An electrochemically controlled solid phase microextraction based on a modified copper electrode with polyaniline/graphene oxide (PANI/GO) conductive nanocomposite was developed for the extraction of oxytetracycline, tetracycline and doxycycline before high-performance liquid chromatography-UV analysis. PANI/GO was synthesized by in situ chemical oxidative polymerization, characterized by scanning electron microscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and bound on the electrode using high purity conductive double-sided adhesive carbon glue. The significant factors affecting the performance of microextraction were investigated and optimized. read more Under the optimized conditiootics in complex matrices. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry. The risk of developing urothelial carcinoma of the bladder (UCB) in patients treated by radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) for an upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) is 22% to 47% in the 2 years after surgery. Subject of debate remains whether UTUC and the subsequent UCB are clonally related or represent separate origins. To investigate the clonal relationship between both entities, we performed targeted DNA sequencing of a panel of 41 genes on matched normal and tumor tissue of 15 primary UTUC patients treated by RNU who later developed 19 UCBs. Based on the detected tumor-specific DNA aberrations, the paired UTUC and UCB(s) of 11 patients (73.3%) showed a clonal relation, whereas in four patients the molecular results did not indicate a clear clonal relationship. Our results support the hypothesis that UCBs following a primary surgically resected UTUC are predominantly clonally derived recurrences and not separate entities.
The prolonged use of traditional moldboard ploughing often results in soil degradation and, ultimately, has an impact on national food security. Therefore, the implementation of resource-saving technologies (minimal and No-till) is a promising approach in the development of agriculture, especially in drought regions. The present study reports the results of long-term research on the effect of various tillage methods (moldboard ploughing, minimal tillage and No-till technique) on the nitrogen content of Haplic Chernozem of the European part of Southern Russia. The revealed regularities can be used as a theoretical basis for the effective use of resource-saving technologies, including No-till, in the zone of insufficient moisture.
Long-term (59 years) cultivation of winter wheat using traditional moldboard ploughing has decreased the soil organic material (SOM) by 35% and total nitrogen by 32% in the soil. Minimization of tillage, in contrast, recovers the nitrogen potential of the soil in winter wheat agrocenoses. There is a statistically confirmed dependence of the content of SOM and total nitrogen on the tillage method of the upper soil horizon, with no significant effect of the tillage methods on intensity ammonification and nitrification. However, the content of nitrate-nitrogen during resource-saving tillage methods (22.8-24.4 mg kg
) was higher than that after ploughing (20.3 mg kg
) during all the years of the study, indicating the higher content of easily mineralizable nitrogen-containing compounds in the soil after minimal tillage.

An abnormal respiratory sound can induce the suspicion of a life-threatening clinical condition and requires an immediate diagnostic assessment. The aim of this article is to describe a very peculiar case of loud expiratory stridor, with an abrupt onset and no other associated symptoms, occurring in an 11-year-old girl. The stridor sounds ceased only during sleep at night. Videolaryngoscopy demonstrated that the anatomy and patency of the larynx were normal, and expiratory noise was generated by vibration of the supraglottic structures. Voice therapy led to remission of stridor within 3 weeks. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of expiratory stridor with such striking volume and characteristics related to psychological causes. This peculiar clinical condition needs to be taken into consideration in the differential diagnosis of pediatric stridor to avoid unnecessary and invasive procedures and treatments.
