Branching determines cotton architecture and production, but the underlying regulatory mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we report that the miR164-GhCUC2 (CUP-SHAPED COTYLEDON2) module regulates lateral shoot development in cotton and Arabidopsis. We generated OE-GhCUC2m (overexpression GhCUC2m) and STTM164 (short tandem target mimic RNA of miR164) lines in cotton and heterologous expression lines for gh-miR164, GhCUC2 and GhCUC2m in Arabidopsis to study the mechanisms controlling lateral branching. GhCUC2m overexpression resulted in a short-branch phenotype similar to STTM164. In addition, heterologous expression of GhCUC2m led to decreased number and length of branches compared with wild type, opposite to the effects of the OE-gh-pre164 line in Arabidopsis. GhCUC2 interacted with GhBRC1 and exhibited similar negative regulation of branching. Overexpression of GhBRC1 in the brc1-2 mutant partially rescued the mutant phenotype and decreased branch number. GhBRC1 directly bound to the NCED1 promoter and activated its transcription, leading to local abscisic acid (ABA) accumulation and response. Mutation of the NCED1 promoter disrupted activation by GhBRC1. This finding demonstrates a direct relationship between BRC1 and ABA signalling and places ABA downstream of BRC1 in the control of branching development. The miR164-GhCUC2-GhBRC1-GhNCED1 module provides a clear regulatory axis for ABA signalling to control plant architecture.The 78 kDa glucose-regulated protein (GRP78) is an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-resident molecular chaperone. GRP78 is a member of the 70 kDa heat shock family of proteins involved in correcting and clearing misfolded proteins in the ER. In this review, we discuss the mechanisms involved in the translocation of GRP78 from the ER to the cell surface, and the role of secreted GRP78 and its autoantibodies in cancer and neurological disorders.Organosulfur compounds are being widely used in medicinal chemistry, as well as in organic transformations and in synthetic applications. Because of their interest in many areas, the development of sustainable and green synthetic methods to access various organosulfur compounds has a high influence on the chemistry community. Electroorganic synthesis has become a very valuable methodology for the synthesis of organosulfur compounds during the last decade. The use of electrochemical technology offers a green, sustainable and safe alternative to prepare and modify such compounds. This review summarises recent developments in the preparation of organosulfur compounds such as sulfoxides, sulfones, sulfinic esters, sulfonamides, thiosulfonates, sulfonyl fluorides and sulfoximines under electrochemical reaction conditions.

Many young people with anxiety or depression drop out of treatment early, and/or leave treatment without showing measurably improved symptom levels. To enhance treatment engagement and effectiveness, it is critical to better understand how young people's perceptions of the symptoms, causes, consequences, treatability, and course of their anxiety and depression influence engagement.

This study aimed to provide a qualitative account of illness perceptions among youth with anxiety and depression by applying the Common Sense Model of Self-Regulation (CSM), which was developed in physical health contexts.

Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 26 young people (aged 16-24, 73% female) with a history of anxiety and/or depression. Interviews were analysed using a combination of theory- and data-driven analysis techniques, consisting primarily of deductive thematic analysis.

The five themes broadly mapped onto the dimensions of the CSM, suggesting parallels in how mental and physical health problems ar increase help-seeking, treatment engagement and adaptive coping strategies, therapy should work to a shared understanding of illness beliefs. Here, we report the gram-scale synthesis of red/green/blue solid-state bandgap fluorescent carbon quantum rings (R/G/B-SBF-CQRs) with high quantum yields up to 30-46 %. This was achieved using cyano-group-bearing p-phenyldiacetonitrile as precursor and forming carbon quantum rings of different diameters through the linkage of curved carbon quantum ribbons of different lengths. The results show the role of cyano groups in inducing the curvature of the carbon quantum ribbons for CQR formation and emission of stable solid-state bandgap fluorescence. R/G/B-SBF-CQRs-phosphor-based LEDs emitted warm white light with low CCT (3576 K), high CRI (96.6), and high luminous efficiency (48.7 lm W-1 ), comparable to REE-phosphor-based LEDs.

A intraoperative navigation system based on electromagnetic tracking (EMT) and simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) was proposed to track the tip of the ureteroscope and reconstruct a dense intrarenal three-dimensional (3D) map. Furthermore, the contour lines of stones were segmented to measure the size.

Our system was evaluated on a kidney phantom, achieving an absolute trajectory accuracy root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.6mm. The median error of the longitudinal and transversal measurements was 0.061 and 0.074mm, respectively. The in vivo experiment also demonstrated the effectiveness.

The proposed system worked effectively in tracking and measurement. Further, this system can be extended to other surgical applications involving cavities, branches and intelligent robotic surgery.

HEV-related clinical complications are often undetected and are not considered in the differential diagnosis. Convincing findings from studies suggest that HEV is clinically relevant not only in developing countries but also in industrialized countries. Eight HEV genotypes (HEV-1 to HEV-8) with different human and animal hosts and other HEV-related viruses are in circulation. Transmission routes vary by genotype and location, with large waterborne outbreaks in developing countries and zoonotic food-borne infections in developed countries. An acute infection can be aggravated in pregnant women, organ transplant recipients, patients with pre-existing liver disease and immunosuppressed patients. HEV during pregnancy affects the fetus and newborn with an increased risk of vertical transmission, preterm and stillbirth, neonatal jaundice and miscarriage. Hepatitis E is associated with extrahepatic manifestations that include neurological disorders such as neuralgic amyotrophy, Guillain-Barré syndrome and encephalitis, renal injury and haematological disorders. The risk of transfusion-transmitted HEV is increasingly recognized in Western countries where the risk may be because of a zoonosis. However, the detailed mechanism underlying 5-HT6R activity in the central nervous system (CNS) is not fully understood. In the present study, 5-HT6R null mutant (5-HT6R-/- ) mice were found to exhibit cognitive deficiencies and abnormal anxiety levels. 5-HT6R is considered to be specifically localized on the primary cilia. We found that the loss of 5-HT6R affected the Sonic Hedgehog signaling pathway in the primary cilia. 5-HT6R-/- mice showed remarkable alterations in neuronal morphology, including dendrite complexity and axon initial segment morphology. Neurons lacking 5-HT6R exhibited increased neuronal excitability. Our findings highlight the complexity of 5-HT6R functions in the primary ciliary and neuronal physiology, supporting the theory that this receptor modulates neuronal morphology and transmission, and contributes to cognitive deficits in a variety of human diseases, such as AD, schizophrenia, and ciliopathies.We reply to the comment by J.-M. Mewes, A. Hansen and S. Grimme (MHG), who challenged the accuracy of our re value for the N⋅⋅⋅Te distance in (C6 F5 )Te(CH2 )3 NMe2 determined by gas electron diffraction (GED). We conclusively demonstrate that MHG's quoted reference calculations are less accurate than they claim for solid state and gas phase. We show by higher level calculations, that we did not miss substantial contributions from open-chain conformers. Refinements on simulated scattering data show that such contributions would have had only an almost negligible effect on re (N⋅⋅⋅Te). MHG suggested the use of a H0-tuned GFN method for calculating vibrational corrections ra -re , but this did not change these values substantially. Alternative amplitude calculations using higher level analytic harmonic and numeric cubic force fields (PBE0-D3BJ/def2-TZVP) yield a GED value for re (N⋅⋅⋅Te)=2.852(25) Å that is well within the experimental error of our original value 2.918(31) Å but far from the 2.67(8) Å predicted by MHG. A now improved error estimation accounts for inaccuracies in the calculated auxiliary values. The gas/solid difference of the weak N⋅⋅⋅Te interaction is in a realistic range compared to other systems involving weak chemical interactions.In this paper, we extend the use of assurance for a single study to explore how meeting a study's pre-defined success criteria could update our beliefs about the true treatment effect and impact the assurance of subsequent studies. This concept of conditional assurance, the assurance of a subsequent study conditional on success in an initial study, can be used assess the de-risking potential of the study requiring immediate investment, to ensure it provides value within the overall development plan. If the planned study does not discharge sufficient later phase risk, alternative designs and/or success criteria should be explored. By transparently laying out the different design options and the risks associated, this allows for decision makers to make quantitative investment choices based on their risk tolerance levels and potential return on investment. This paper lays out the derivation of conditional assurance, discusses how changing the design of a planned study will impact the conditional assurance of a future study, as well as presenting a simple illustrative example of how this methodology could be used to transparently compare development plans to aid decision making within an organisation.
