The expression levels of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), liver-X-receptor α (LXR-α), and ATP binding cassette subfamily A member 1 (ABCA1) were increased, while those of scavenger receptor A (SR-A1), cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36), and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) were decreased in the HFCD + P75 group compared with those in the HFCD group. Moreover, PEITC modulated H3K9 and H3K27 acetylation, H3K4 dimethylation, and H3K27 di-/trimethylation in the HFCD + P75 group. We, therefore, suggest that supplementation with PEITC may be a potential candidate for the treatment and prevention of atherosclerosis and obesity.

Pituitary adenomas (PA) are the second most common tumor in the central nervous system and have low counts of mutated genes. Splicing occurs in 95% of the coding RNA. There is scarce information about the spliceosome and mRNA-isoforms in PA, and therefore we carried out proteomic and transcriptomic analysis to identify spliceosome components and mRNA isoforms in PA.

Proteomic profile analysis was carried out by nano-HPLC and mass spectrometry with a quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The mRNA isoforms and transcriptomic profiles were carried out by microarray technology. With proteins and mRNA information we carried out Gene Ontology and exon level analysis to identify splicing-related events.

Approximately 2000 proteins were identified in pituitary tumors. Spliceosome proteins such as

among others were found in PA. These results were validated at mRNA level, which showed up-regulation of spliceosome genes in PA. Spliceosome-related genes segregate and categorize PA tumor subtypes. The PA showed alterations in

mRNA isoforms which could be tumor specific.

This study intends to describe and expose the levels of digital competency amongst physical education teachers working in the public school system of Spain, by what was established in the portfolio of teacher digital competence of one region of Spain which was published on the 12th of June 2015 in the Official Journal of Extremadura. The design of our research is of a descriptive type. The instrument used to collect data was the questionnaire published in appendix IV of the previously mentioned portfolio official of a region of Spain. A total of 201 students were tested. The principle obtained results show that primary physical education teachers in public schools in Spain have a basic level of digital teaching competence, more specifically an A2 level. This is in comparison with the guidelines established by the Common Framework for Digital Competence of Teachers 2.0.Blackcurrants (BC) and yogurt are known to possess several health benefits. The objective of this review was to compile the latest information on the effect of lactic acid fermentation on BC and their incorporation into yogurt, including the impact of this combination on chemical composition, sensory aspects, and health attributes of the blend. Google Scholar, Scopus, and PubMed were used to research the most recent literature on BC juice, the whole BC berry, and yogurt. Health benefits were assessed from human and animal studies within the last 5 years. The results suggest that BC have several health promoting compounds that ameliorate some neurological disorders and improve exercise recovery. Yogurt contains compounds that can be used to manage diseases such as type 2 diabetes (T2D) and irritable bowel disease (IBD). Fermenting BC with lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and its incorporation into yogurt products increases the polyphenol and antioxidant capacity of BC, creating a blend of prebiotics and probiotics compounds with enhanced benefits. More research is needed in the area of lactic acid fermentation of berries in general, especially BC.Adults who educate and care for young children are exposed to mixed-messages about what is in the best interests of young children in digital society. Such mixed-messaging makes adult decision-making about technology use in the best interests of young children hard to achieve. This project addresses this problem by working with leading organisations providing services related to quality digital media production, online-safety education, digital play and digital parenting. Using a Participatory Design approach, families, educators, industry partners and researchers will conduct mixed-methods investigations concerning Relationships; Health and Well-being; Citizenship; and Play and Pedagogy to identify practices concerning technology use 'with, by and for' young children. Iterative design cycles will develop an Online Tool to support organisations providing services to young children and the adults responsible for their education and care. As society becomes more digital families and educators need new knowledge about what people do in digital society to inform their decision-making. This project will support organisations to use an empirically informed approach to service provision regarding using technologies in the best interests of young children.Autophagy is a major degradation system for intracellular macromolecules. Its decline with age or obesity is related to the onset and development of various intractable diseases. Although dietary phytochemicals are expected to enhance autophagy for preventive medicine, few studies have addressed their effects on the autophagy flux, which is the focus of the current study. Herein, 67 dietary phytochemicals were screened using a green fluorescent protein (GFP)-microtubule-associated protein light chain 3 (LC3)-red fluorescent protein (RFP)-LC3ΔG probe for the quantitative assessment of autophagic degradation. Among them, isorhamnetin, chrysoeriol, 2,2',4'-trihydroxychalcone, and zerumbone enhanced the autophagy flux in HeLa cells. Meanwhile, analysis of the structure-activity relationships indicated that the 3'-methoxy-4'-hydroxy group on the B-ring in the flavone skeleton and an ortho-phenolic group on the chalcone B-ring were crucial for phytochemicals activities. These active compounds were also effective in colon carcinoma Caco-2 cells, and some of them increased the expression of p62 protein, a typical substrate of autophagic proteolysis, indicating that phytochemicals impact p62 levels in autophagy-dependent and/or -independent manners. In addition, these compounds were characterized by distinct modes of action. While isorhamnetin and chrysoeriol enhanced autophagy in an mTOR signaling-dependent manner, the actions of 2,2',4'-trihydroxychalcone and zerumbone were independent of mTOR signaling. Hence, these dietary phytochemicals may prove effective as potential preventive or therapeutic strategies for lifestyle-related diseases.Barometers are among the oldest engineered sensors. Historically, they have been primarily used either as environmental sensors to measure the atmospheric pressure for weather forecasts or as altimeters for aircrafts. With the advent of microelectromechanical system (MEMS)-based barometers and their systematic embedding in smartphones and wearable devices, a vast breadth of new applications for the use of barometers has emerged. For instance, it is now possible to use barometers in conjunction with other sensors to track and identify a wide range of human activity classes. However, the effectiveness of barometers in the growing field of human activity recognition critically hinges on our understanding of the numerous factors affecting the atmospheric pressure, as well as on the properties of the sensor itself-sensitivity, accuracy, variability, etc. This review article thoroughly details all these factors and presents a comprehensive report of the numerous studies dealing with one or more of these factors in the particular framework of human activity tracking and recognition. In addition, we specifically collected some experimental data to illustrate the effects of these factors, which we observed to be in good agreement with the findings in the literature. We conclude this review with some suggestions on some possible future uses of barometric sensors for the specific purpose of tracking human activities.Visual sorting of express parcels in complex scenes has always been a key issue in intelligent logistics sorting systems. With existing methods, it is still difficult to achieve fast and accurate sorting of disorderly stacked parcels. In order to achieve accurate detection and efficient sorting of disorderly stacked express parcels, we propose a robot sorting method based on multi-task deep learning. Firstly, a lightweight object detection network model is proposed to improve the real-time performance of the system. A scale variable and the joint weights of the network are used to sparsify the model and automatically identify unimportant channels. Pruning strategies are used to reduce the model size and increase the speed of detection without losing accuracy. Then, an optimal sorting position and pose estimation network model based on multi-task deep learning is proposed. Using an end-to-end network structure, the optimal sorting positions and poses of express parcels are estimated in real time by combining pose and position information for joint training. It is proved that this model can further improve the sorting accuracy. Finally, the accuracy and real-time performance of this method are verified by robotic sorting experiments.The prevalence of obesity has dramatically increased over the last decades. Weight loss obtained through diet and exercise leads to a significant decrease in morbidity and mortality. Recently, there has been growing interest in the possible beneficial effects of dietary supplements (DSs), including polyphenols, fatty acids, and other plant-derived substances, as adjuvants in the management of obesity and metabolic diseases. Specifically, polyphenols, widely spread in vegetables and fruits, significantly modulate adipose tissue activities, contrasting inflammation and improving insulin sensitivity in preclinical and clinical studies. Remarkably, polyphenols are involved in complex microRNA networks, which play crucial roles in metabolic processes. The administration of different polyphenols and other plant-derived compounds led to significant changes in the microRNA expression profile in peripheral tissues in a growing number of preclinical studies. In particular, these compounds were able to revert obesity-induced microRNA dysregulation, leading to the inhibition of adipogenesis and the induction of weight loss. Furthermore, through microRNA modulation, they attenuated key metabolic alterations, including insulin resistance and lipid anomalies, in animal models of obesity. Some of them were also able to reduce proinflammatory cytokines in adipose tissue. The aim of this review is to summarize current evidence about the effect of plant-derived DSs on microRNA expression in obesity.
