Our assay had good inter- and intra-assay variability. The correlation of serum antibody levels between the ncLIA and validation assay was highest for HPV16 and HPV11 (r=0.90), followed by HPV6 (r=0.86) and HPV18 (r=0.67). The ncLIA was better able to predict HPV DNA positivity in genital samples than the validation assay for HPV16 [area under the curve (AUC) 0.65 versus 0.52, P=0.001] and HPV18 [AUC 0.71 versus 0.57, P=0.024]. AUCs for HPV6 and HPV11 were similar between the two assays (0.70 versus 0.71, P=0.59, and 0.88 versus 0.96, P=0.08, respectively). The developed ncLIA is useful for measuring total IgG antibody response following natural infection or vaccination against four HPV VLPs included in the quadrivalent vaccine.Cross-contamination of animal feed with antibiotics may occur during manufacturing in feed mills, because shared production lines can be used for medicated and non-medicated feed, but may also occur during transport, storage and at the farm level. This is a major issue in the current context where antimicrobial usage must be controlled in order to maintain their effectiveness. A LC-MS/MS method was developed for the determination of colistin, bacitracin A and virginiamycin M1 in feed for pigs, poultry and rabbits at concentrations similar to those encountered in cross-contamination. After investigating various issues related to colistin behaviour and matrix effects, we successfully validated this method according to the requirements of European regulations in terms of linearity, trueness, precision, limit of quantification and limit of decision. Trueness ranged 88.6-107.8% and precision ranged 12.6-21.2%. We then applied this method to the analysis of medicated pig feed to check the performance of the method on "real" samples of medicated feed. We subsequently analysed non-medicated pig, and rabbit feed samples, collected directly on farms, to check the rate of cross-contamination. No samples were contaminated by colistin, bacitracin, or virginiamycin.Explanatory mechanisms of the positive impact of proactive personality on relevant individual outcomes have been thoroughly discussed in the literature. That being said, few studies have investigated the supervisor's leadership style as an explanatory mechanism through which the outcomes of proactive individuals are affected. Drawing insight from Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) theory and followership theory, this paper examines a serial mediation model in which the relationship between proactive personality and two types of job crafting (approach role and resource crafting) is mediated by empowering leadership and work engagement. More specifically, we argue for the capacity of proactive individuals to increase their work engagement by influencing their leaders to embrace an empowering leadership style. Furthermore, empowering leaders are argued to increase employee approach role and resource crafting through increasing employee work engagement. A sample of 298 full-time workers, mainly from Saudi Arabia, participated in the study. The hypotheses were tested using Partial Least Squares Path Modeling (PLS-PM). The findings support the hypothesized relationships. A discussion of the findings, contributions, limitations, and future directions is provided.While individuals value honesty in relationships, disagreements can create discomfort and individuals tend to prefer partners who engage in attitude alignment (i.e., shift their attitude toward agreement when disagreement occurs). In order to maintain smooth interactions, partners may even deceive individuals by concealing their continued disagreement. In a 2 (Attitude Alignment Deception) x 2 (Partner Motivation) between-subjects design, we examined whether individuals would evaluate interaction partners who engaged in deceptive attitude alignment less favorably compared to interaction partners who engaged in honest attitude alignment, and we examined whether partner motivation (relationship- vs. self-oriented) impacted this effect. After a brief in-person discussion about a disagreed upon social issue, participants received written feedback, allegedly from their interaction partners, that their partners engaged in attitude alignment that was either honest (i.e., partner came to agree with the individual) or deceptive (i.e., partner pretended to reach agreement with the individual). Participants also received feedback that their partners actions were motivated by either a relationship-orientation (i.e., to be liked by the individual) or self-orientation (i.e., to be viewed as correct on the issue). Individuals evaluated (e.g., were less attracted to) partners who engaged in deceptive (vs. honest) attitude alignment less favorably, but deceptive partners were evaluated more favorably if their deception was relationship- vs. self-oriented.The goal of the present study is to examine the moderating role of resources at work or study in the relation between demands, vigor, and fatigue in academic life. Trying to replicate scarce research on both academic and student stress simultaneously, we tested the so-called triple-match principle in an academic context to study whether or not match between specific resources, demands and well-being/health outcomes does really matter. A cross-sectional survey study using online self-completion questionnaires was carried out among 96 academics and 221 engineering students from a technological university (n = 317 in total). Findings showed a moderating, matching, role of resources in the association between demands, vigor, and particularly fatigue. Specifically, high cognitive resources strengthened the positive relation between cognitive demands and cognitive liveliness. In addition, high emotional resources buffered the positive association between emotional demands and successively emotional, cognitive and physical fatigue. This study reveals that matching resources are important in academic life. Therefore, it seems essential to create an appropriate equilibrium between specific resources and corresponding demands to promote academic well-being and health.Species of Russula are ubiquitous members of ectomycorrhizal fungal communities in tropical ecosystems. However, an important part of the total tropical diversity of this genus and its biogeographic patterns is unknown due to the lack of studies on Russula in tropical ecosystems. We combined molecular, morphological, ecological, and biogeographic data to elaborate concepts for two new subspecies of R. floriformis (subsection Substriatinae). Omaveloxolone in vivo Russula floriformis subsp. floriformis and R. floriformis subsp. symphoniae are described as new from montane forest dominated by Quercus and/or Oreomunnea (Fagales) from Colombia and Panama, respectively. Phylogenies were constructed using nuc rDNA internal transcribed spacer region ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 (ITS), D1-D2 domains of nuc 28S rDNA (28S), and partial regions of the second largest subunit of RNA polymerase II (rpb2) and translation elongation factor 1-alpha (tef1). Similar environmental conditions, similar morphology, and an ITS sequence similarity higher than 99% with only three different positions indicate that these two subspecies are closely related. Detailed observations of microscopic structures and analyses of further DNA loci, however, revealed morphological and molecular characteristics that allow distinguishing the two subspecies of R. floriformis. Spatial distribution and phylogenetic proximity of the two Russula subspecies and their ectomycorrhizal hosts, i.e., species of Quercus, suggest that their diversification is a result of comigration, adaptation, and geographic isolation along the Isthmus of Panama during the Pliocene and Pleistocene.A qualitative and quantitative liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method was developed for the sensitive and exhaustive analysis of residues from triarylmethane dyes, triarylmethane-derivative dyes, phenothiazines, phenoxazines and xanthenes in aquaculture samples. For a wider and more robust detection of dye misuse on farms, other residue markers were also included the leuco forms of brilliant green, crystal violet and malachite green; one direct metabolite of Victoria pure blue BO and methylene blue and three bile acids, which are endogenous markers of the effects of dye contamination in fish. We optimised the extraction method by comparing several extraction solvents and sample solvents reported in the literature to have the best extraction efficiency. The residues were determined using a positive electrospray ionisation source. We assessed the parameters of this LC-MS/MS method by evaluating the matrix effects, identification and quantitative parameters according to the criteria stipulated in the European Commission Decision No. 2002/657/EC. A study on the applicability of the method was conducted on various aquaculture species and on a positive catfish.Rhodotorula mucilaginosa is an antagonistic yeast for which our research team has recently reported interesting biocontrol activities against blue mould decay of apples and a strong ability to decrease the patulin concentration in vivo. However, the possible mechanisms of patulin degradation by R. mucilaginosa and the toxicity of patulin degradation products remain unclear. In this study, the effect of R. mucilaginosa on patulin degradation and toxicity of degradation products were investigated, the results showed that viable cells of R. mucilaginosa are essential to patulin degradation. Also, R. mucilaginosa eliminated patulin without adsorbing it through its cell wall. The extracellular metabolites of R. mucilaginosa stimulated by patulin showed little degradation activity for patulin. Cycloheximide addition into the medium significantly decreased the patulin degradation capacity of R. mucilaginosa cells. The main patulin degradation product by R. mucilaginosa was ascladiol, which was proved non-toxic to human hepatoma (HepG2) cells at 0.625-10 g/mL. Furthermore, toxicological analysis using a confocal laser scanning microscope revealed that the degradation product induced cellular apoptosis to a lesser extent than patulin itself. This result offers an innovative method to detoxify patulin and limit the risks of patulin in fruits and vegetables using R. mucilaginosa.The unavoidable presence of acrylamide in foods has fuelled the search for a suitable food additive, one that can successfully mitigate dietary acrylamide levels without changing food quality or compromising the health of consumers. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a sulphur-based additive and amino acid, methionine, on acrylamide reduction. Differential scanning calorimetry, supported by chromatographic measurements, has shown that methionine interacts with acrylamide at a possible optimum temperature of 160°C, thereby disfavouring acrylamide polymerisation. Analysis of the methionine-acrylamide interaction via density functional theoretical modelling (DFT/6-31 + G(d)/RCAM-B3LYP) revealed that methionine's reducing effect may be driven by a Michael-type conjugation of the vinyl group of acrylamide at both the sulphur atom (∆Gf = -53 kJ mol-1) and the amino group (∆Gf = -11.84 kJ mol-1) of methionine. The former conjugation pathway results in a product that is more thermodynamically feasible.
