Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

A robot vacuum is the best tool for maintaining a clean home. It can remove pet hair, dust and other particles from the floor before it causes a bigger problem.

Some robots can sync with smart assistants like Alexa or Google Assistant to provide a hands-free experience. Find models that recharge and then resume cleaning where they left off.

1. iRobot S8

This smart robot vacuum and mop combo is a great option for a wide range of homes. It features a superb navigation system that incorporates GPS and laser sensors. It also has many features and controls that are accessible through the app. It comes with a useful feature that lets you create cleaning zones in areas that require additional attention, and Keep Out zones in areas where you do not want it to go. It also gets software updates, similar to the other Roomba products, that improve the quality of the product over time.

It's costly but it's also one of the most advanced robot vacuums that ZDNet has tested. It's equipped with a powerful battery that can clean a large home in under two hours. Additionally, it can switch between mopping and vacuuming with the press of one button. It automatically empties the dust bin above its charging station, in contrast to other self-emptying robots that require you to empty it after every run.

It also has many other features, including intelligent obstacle avoidance that uses cameras in conjunction with processor-powered smarts to detect obstacles. It rarely gets derailed or entrapped during a cleaning cycle and is the best at avoiding power cables and other objects in my tests. It's not as precise in detecting pet waste, or other dangers.

2. Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8

While the Anker-owned Eufy has made its name in the field of low-cost robot vacuums, it's never offered an all-in-one model which can also mop. The X8 Hybrid is a new model that comes with a variety of features that are advanced and is able to compete with more expensive models.

Eufy's main selling point with this machine is its laser navigation. The X8 uses a laser mapping system that is more accurate than the previous Eufy devices. It takes less time to build a comprehensive map of your home. It also has the ability to store multiple maps. This is perfect for homes with multiple floors.

The X8 is still a good vacuum on floors with no dust and can sling debris over its side brushes and into the 400ml dust bin with ease. The tyres are adept at hugging corners and edges even though they're circular. It's not a fantastic cat litter eater, however as our tests show it can only remove about 90 percent of the fur from hard floors.

The basic mopping mode utilizes the same water reservoir as the vacuuming mode. While this is great for spills that aren't too big however, you aren't able to control how much water it is using, which will limit its effectiveness for more serious staining. However, it does an admirable job of picking up pet hair, with a better percentage of hair removal than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

The company is known for its quiet home appliances, Miele's RX2 robot vacuum comes with outstanding cleaning power, stunning design, and a great navigation. However, it does have some operational issues that prevent it from being ranked as the best overall smart robot vacuum.

The RX2 is equipped with a dual-sensor mapping system which uses LIDAR to map the space, and a pair 3D scanning cameras to detect and staying clear of obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). Once mapped the app allows you to create virtual no-go zones as well as preferred areas that the robot will clean automatically. You can also manually change cleaning options, begin cleaning manually, or view live feeds from the cameras onboard from the main screen.

The RX2 has excellent sensors that can identify furniture and other obstructions immediately. The suction and sweeping power are top-of-the-line, picking up surface litter from carpets of medium pile and dust on floors that are unfinished. It's not the most powerful robot available. As with many others it's not a very good climber and has trouble with things like thresholds made of metal transition strips.

Many people purchase robot vacuums because of the ease of setting up a schedule on an app, and then forgetting about them for weeks. However, it's essential that a robot can get the job done and that's the reason why our ZDNet staff looked over and tested a number of the most popular models to help you select the right one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This budget robovac is a robot that looks like any other, but comes with several more features and a better performance. Its intelligent mapping system creates 3D and 2-D maps of your home and uses to navigate and avoid obstacles. It can even identify common obstacles such as furniture legs and power cords in real-time. This combination of sensors with a bump detector, and an infrared sensor to keep the vacuum from stepping on stairs makes it one of our most flexible vacuums.

In our tests, it easily moved over large shag rugs and didn't get stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigation skills were impressive. Its composite score for flooring and carpet beats the competition and it was able to pick up 98.5 percent of surface litter and embedded dog hair from our lab test samples.

The controls are simpler than the competition's. There's a clean button on the top and you can start it with the app or by voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also set up a schedule for your daily or weekly cleans, set no-go zones, and see its history of cleaning. In a smart dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and looks attractive in your home. Its rear dust bin is accessible for emptying and removing the filter just as simple.

5. Eufy 11S

Eufy 11S is a good option if you're looking for a vacuum cleaner that is easy to use and simple at a reasonable price. This model lacks some smart features such as Alexa integration and digital mapping that are found in more expensive models. However, if you don't need these features, you can save money.

This robot is simple to install and use. It does not require smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However it does include an remote control that lets you select between different modes and adjust suction levels. It also lets you manually send the robovac off for scheduled cleaning.

In our tests during our tests, the 11S was very effective at removing dirt and pet hair from hard floors as well as in carpets with a low pile. automated cleaning made it easier to get under furniture and other low items that larger robots could not reach. It was able to go effortlessly over door thresholds and move from one type of floor to another.

Like other robots, the 11S is able to suck up some objects, such as cords hoodie drawstrings and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests that you can stop this by keeping these items off the floor and using the possibility of a cord organizer. It also suggests cleaning the dustbin on a regular basis replacing the filters, and washing or changing the brushes as needed.

Roomba 990 by iRobot

The Roomba 980 is iRobot's most popular robot vacuum. It's expensive but it's the most powerful robot vacuum you can purchase. Its self-navigating features and environmental mapping are truly a marvel to behold. It also comes with more advanced automation features than its competitors, including the ability to set virtual boundary lines through its mobile application. Although its app is a little sluggish, and the 980 does spin out a bit when moving over cables, it's still a very capable robot vacuum.

One thing we love about the 980 is the fact that it utilizes its iAdapt 2.0 navigation sensors and visual simultaneous localisation and mapping technology (or vSLAM) to store the floor plan of your home. It uses this information to create a consistent and efficient cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a better robot vacuum than many high-end robotics.

The 980's other features include two multi-surface rubber brushes that pick up dirt from carpets and hard floors and a spinning brush that sweeps debris into the bin of the robotic vacuum. Its floor tracking sensor helps it navigate around furniture, along edges and up steps. Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling. It also automatically returns to its base station for easy charging between sessions. Although the 980's battery lifespan and bin size isn't as good as those of some other robot vacuums, it's a solid and reliable machine that can keep your floors clean for hours at a time.
