Aim This real-world study was aimed at establishing reference intervals (RIs) of ten commonly used clinical chemistry analytes (total cholesterol, triglycerides, Apo A1, Apo B, creatine kinase (CK), CK isoenzyme MB, glucose, alkaline phosphatase, γ-glutamyltransferase and blood urea nitrogen) in an apparently healthy population in China. Materials & methods A total of 17,356 healthy participants aged 18-79 years who underwent check-up at MJ Health Check-up Center were included. The establishment of RIs was performed according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute EP28-A3c guideline. Roche Cobas c701 automatic analyzer (Roche Diagnostics, Mannheim, Germany) was employed to measure the concentrations of analytes. Results Total cholesterol, triglycerides, Apo B, CK, alkaline phosphatase, glucose, γ-glutamyltransferase and blood urea nitrogen required gender and age-specific partitioning. Conclusion The RIs established in this study were parallel to current national standards and previous RIs established in Chinese population. Real-world studies may play an important and practical role in the determination of RIs in the future.

We assessed the long-term surgical, functional urinary and sexual outcomes of adolescent and young adult men who underwent childhood hypospadias repair.

Men born with nonsyndromic hypospadias and healthy male controls aged 16-21 years old were recruited, and their surgical, urinary, sexual functional and aesthetic outcomes assessed. Good outcome was defined as a patent and orthotopic meatus without fistulas, and straight erections (<30 degree curvature) without erectile or ejaculatory problems. Statistics included regression analyses, chi-square/Fisher exact tests and Student's t/Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests.

A total of 193 patients and 50 controls participated 16.4 years (range 8.2-21.2) after initial repair. At least 1 reintervention was performed in 39.2%. The highest reintervention rate was found in those younger than 12 months at initial repair, even when excluding proximal hypospadias cases. A disturbed urinary and/or suboptimal sexual functional outcome was seen in 52.9% of cases. Suboptimal voiding was found in 22.1%, although few had relevant residual urine. More reinterventions and proximal hypospadias cases were associated with suboptimal urinary outcome, and the latter also with impaired sexual function. Poor inter-observer agreements were found between physician and patient genital appraisal.

In 52.9% of cases, at least 1 concern was identified that required long-term followup. Hypospadias repair below 12 months was associated with more reinterventions. Adopting a restrictive attitude toward aesthetic refinement, unless on the patient's own request, could improve urinary outcomes.

Limited data exist regarding sexual function after single incision sling (SIS) surgery. We compared sexual function 36 months postoperatively between patients undergoing SIS and transobturator sling (TMUS) for treatment of stress urinary incontinence.

Assessment of sexual function was a planned secondary objective of this prospective, multi-center study that enrolled women to Solyx SIS or Obtryx II TMUS. The primary study aim was to compare efficacy and safety using non-inferiority design at 36 months

Patient-reported outcomes of sexual function were assessed at baseline and 6, 12, 18, 24 and 36 months using Pelvic Organ Prolapse/Urinary Incontinence Sexual Questionnaire (PISQ-12). Changes in sexual function were analyzed within and between groups. Outcomes for patients requiring surgical retreatment were determined.

Baseline characteristics were balanced using propensity score stratification (N=141 SIS, N=140 TMUS). Groups were similar in age, body mass index and concomitant surgery performed. Average length of followup was 30 months. Baseline sexual activity was similar (123/141 SIS, 114/140 TMUS, p=0.18). Severity of urinary incontinence did not correlate with baseline sexual activity. Mean PISQ-12 scores increased significantly from baseline to 36 months for both groups, indicating better sexual function at each visit. There were no significant differences in PISQ-12 scores between groups except at 36 months, where the difference was small (-2.5, 95% CI [-4.7, 0.2]). Among patients undergoing surgical retreatment (9/281, 3%), improvement in sexual function was maintained. De novo dyspareunia was rare following both treatments (SIS 1/141, TMUS 0/140, p=1.00).

Patients have significant improvement in sexual function after SIS and TMUS. De novo sexual pain is low after sling surgery.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the value of TCGA-TCIA (The Cancer Genome Atlas and The Cancer Imaging Archive)-based CT radiomics for noninvasive prediction of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) status in gastric cancer (GC). MATERIALS AND METHODS. A total of 133 patients with pathologically confirmed GC (94 in the training cohort and 39 in the validation cohort) who were identified from the TCGA-TCIA public data repository and two hospitals were retrospectively enrolled in the study. Two-dimensional and 3D radiomics features were extracted to construct corresponding radiomics signatures. Then, 2D and 3D nomograms were built by combining radiomics signatures and clinical information on the basis of multivariable analysis. Their performance and clinical practicability were determined, validated, and compared with respect to discrimination, calibration, reclassification, and time spent on tumor segmentation. RESULTS. Both 2D and 3D nomograms were robust and showed good calibration. The AUCs of the 2D and 3D nomograms showed no significant difference in the training cohort (0.919 vs 0.945, respectively; p = .41) or validation cohort (0.939 vs 0.955, respectively; p = .71). Selleckchem 4-Aminobutyric The net reclassification index showed that the 3D nomogram revealed no significant improvement in risk reclassification when compared with the 2D nomogram in the training cohort (net reclassification index, 0.68%; p = .14) and the validation cohort (net reclassification index, 6.06%; p = .08). Of note, the time spent on 3D segmentation (median, 907 seconds) was higher than that spent on 2D segmentation (median, 129 seconds). CONCLUSION. The 2D and 3D radiomics nomograms might have the potential to be used as effective tools for prediction of EBV in GC. When time spent on segmentation is considered, the 2D nomogram is more highly recommended for clinical application.
