In conclusion, we have identified LRP-1 as a signature protein of radio-resistant CRC and successfully developed LRP-1-targeting HSA-NP containing 5-FU that is a novel theranostic tool for both diagnostic imaging and neoadjuvant therapy of CRC patients. This approach is clinically applicable to improve the effectiveness of neo-adjuvant radiotherapy and increase the ratio of complete tumor response in radio-resistant CRC.Fossil hominin footprints provide a direct source of evidence of locomotor behavior and allow inference of other biological data such as anthropometrics. Many recent comparative analyses of hominin footprints have used 3D analytical methods to assess their morphological affinities, comparing tracks from different locations and/or time periods. However, environmental conditions can sometimes preclude 3D digital capture, as was the case at Happisburgh (England) in 2013. Consequently, we use here a 2D geometric morphometric approach to investigate the evolutionary context of the Happisburgh tracks. The comparative sample of hominin tracks comes from eight localities that span a broad temporal range from the Pliocene to Late Holocene. The results show disparity in the shapes of tracks ascribed to hominins from the Pliocene (presumably Australopithecus afarensis), Pleistocene (presumably Homo erectus and Homo antecessor), and Holocene (Homo sapiens). Three distinct morphological differences are apparent between time samples changes in adduction of the hallux, changes in the shape and position of the medial longitudinal arch impression, and apparent changes in foot proportions. Linear dimensions classified the potential H. antecessor tracks from Happisburgh as being most similar to the presumed H. erectus prints from Ileret. We demonstrate using 2D geometric morphometric methods and linear dimensions that the Happisburgh tracks are morphologically similar to other presumed Homo tracks and differ from the Laetoli footprints. The probable functional implications of these results fit well with previous comparative analyses of hominin tracks at other sites.In recent years, the study of eye movements has increasingly become a window into neurological function and processes. To contextualize this risk during the first weeks of the nationwide lockdown efforts, we had 1,013 U.S. adults complete questionnaires assessing worries over COVID-19, insomnia severity, and suicidal ideation. Anxiety about COVID-19 correlated positively with insomnia severity and suicidal ideation. Analysis revealed that the statistical association between pandemic fears and suicidal thinking was fully accounted for by insomnia severity, suggesting that interventions aimed at improving sleep may be useful in reducing suicide risk during the current pandemic.Cognitive functions are often affected during the euthymic state of bipolar disorder (BD). In this study, we investigated the associations among cognitive complaints, objective cognitive functions, and the mean amplitudes of the P300 event-related potential (ERP) wave in individuals with BD. The study population comprised 33 individuals with BD who were in remission and was conducted at Hokkaido University Hospital, Sapporo, Japan. Cognitive complaints were assessed using the Japanese version of the tool named "cognitive complaints in bipolar disorder rating assessment (COBRA)", whereas objective cognitive functions were measured by neuropsychological tests. P300 mean amplitudes were investigated during two- and three-stimulus oddball tasks and showed significant correlations with neuropsychological test scores at all electrode locations, confirming that ERPs and objective cognitive tests that assessed attention and memory function tend to coincide; however, neither P300 amplitudes nor neuropsychological test scores were correlated with COBRA scores. ERPs most likely represent the neurophysiological basis for objective rather than subjective cognitive function in euthymic individuals. Thus, our results suggest that objective cognitive function is related more to P300 mean amplitude scores than subjective cognitive function in individuals with BD.Slaughterhouse condemnation of broiler chickens results from identification of polymorphic pathological conditions during meat inspection from arrival and on the slaughter line. While conditions that result in condemnation are multifactorial, identification of factors that are common for a number of categories could be valuable for developing strategies to reduce total condemnation. This study aimed to identify those condemnation categories that were most common in batches of broiler chickens and to determine and compare associated risk factors. In the first step, retrospective meat inspection records for 55,918 broiler batches from one large broiler integrator for 2015-2017 were used for association rules analysis. This study aimed to explore progressive MS patients' experiences of fatigue. Methods Adult patients in the United States with primary progressive MS (n=21) and secondary progressive MS (n=23), recruited from research panels, completed the following PRO measures Patient Global Impression of Severity (Fatigue) (PGI-F); Fatigue Scale of Motor and Cognitive Functions (FSMC); Modified Fatigue Impact Scale (MFIS); Patient Health Questionnaire, two-item version (PHQ-2); and Patient Determined Disease Steps (PDDS). Patients subsequently participated in a 45-minute semistructured telephone interview and were asked to describe their MS symptoms and to comment on how MS affected their day-to-day lives. More detailed questions followed on the nature of their fatigue, including symptoms, impacts, frequency, and bothersomeness. Results Patients' mean age was 52.5 years, mean time since diagnosis was 14.7 years, and 8tients with progressive MS.Background Recently, extravascular fibrinogen leakage has emerged as a potential trigger of local neuroinflammation in the CNS. In the animal models of MS, fibrin depletion decreased neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration. The role of fibrinolytic therapy in patients with MS has not been studied. Objective To describe a unique case of rapid clinical improvement after fibrinolytic therapy in a patient with MS and symptomatic acute demyelinating lesion. Methods The MS patient with acute right-sided weakness was thought to have a stroke and received intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA). Serial neurological exams and MRI were performed. Results/conclusion In 5.4 hours after rtPA administration, NIH Stroke Scale score improved from 9 to 1, and this improvement persisted until 21 hours from symptom onset, approximate duration of rtPA action. Brain MRI revealed a symptomatic acute demyelinating lesion with restricted diffusion. We suggest that fibrin may serve as a potential therapeutic target in a subset of people with MS.Background Perceived racial/ethnic discrimination and poor sleep occur across all races/ethnicities in the U.S., although both are most common among racial/ethnic minorities. Few studies have investigated associations between perceived racial/ethnic discrimination and various sleep dimensions in a multiethnic population. Methods We analyzed cross-sectional associations among 40,038 eligible Sister Study participants (enrollment 2003-2009) who reported ever/never experiencing specific types of everyday (eg, treated unfairly at a store or restaurant) or major (eg, unfairly stopped, threatened, or searched by police) discrimination attributed to their race/ethnicity during a follow-up survey in 2008-2012. Participants also reported short sleep duration ( less then 7 h), sleep debt (≥2-h difference between longest and shortest sleep duration), frequent napping (≥3 times/week), and insomnia. Poisson regression with robust variance estimation, adjusted for sociodemographic and health characteristics, estimated prevalence ratios (PRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the association between each type of racial/ethnic discrimination and each sleep dimension, overall and by race/ethnicity. Results Mean age was 55 ± 8.9 years, 89% were Non-Hispanic (NH)-white, 8% NH-black, and 3% Hispanic/Latina. NH-black participants were the most likely to report everyday (76% vs. 4% [NH-whites] and 36% [Hispanics/Latinas]) and major racial/ethnic discrimination (52% vs. 2% [NH-whites] and 18% [Hispanics/Latinas]). Participants who experienced both types versus neither were more likely to report short sleep duration (PR = 1.17 [95% CI 1.09-1.25]) and insomnia symptoms (PR = 1.10 [1.01-1.20]) but not other poor sleep dimensions. Conclusions Racial/ethnic minority women were most likely to experience racial/ethnic discrimination, which was associated with certain poor sleep dimensions among women of all races/ethnicities.Objectives This study examines the distribution of sleep disorder prevalence across socioeconomic status (SES) and investigates the relationship between sleep disorders and hypertension among southwest China's rural older adult population. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted in rural Yunnan Province, China from 2017 to 2018, consisting of 4833 consenting participants aged ≥60 years. Each participant completed a structured interview and had their blood pressure measured. Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Multivariate logistic regression was used to model variations in prevalence of sleep disorders and hypertension. Results In the study population, the prevalence rates of sleep disorders and hypertension were 46.5% and 50.3%, respectively. Women had higher prevalence of both chronic illnesses (53.4% vs. 38.7%, 53.1% vs. 47.6%, P less then 0.01). After adjusting for age, sex, and residential status, older adults of minority ethnicity had a higher prevalence of sleep disorders than the Han ethnic majority (P less then 0.
