Delirium, a common complication after stroke, is often overlooked, and long-term consequences are poorly understood. This study aims to explore whether delirium in the acute phase of stroke predicts cognitive and psychiatric symptoms three, 18 and 36 months later.

As part of the Norwegian Cognitive Impairment After Stroke Study (Nor-COAST), 139 hospitalized stroke patients (49% women, mean (SD) age 71.4 (13.4) years; mean (SD) National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) 3.0 (4.0)) were screened for delirium with the Confusion Assessment Method (CAM). Global cognition was measured with the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), while psychiatric symptoms were measured using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Neuropsychiatric Inventory-Questionnaire (NPI-Q). Data was analyzed using mixed-model linear regression, adjusting for age, gender, education, NIHSS score at baseline and premorbid dementia.

Thirteen patients met the criteria for delirium. Patients with delirium had lower MoCA scores compared to non-delirious patients, with the largest between-group difference found at 18 months (Mean (SE) 20.8 (1.4) versus (25.1 (0.4)). Delirium was associated with higher NPI-Q scores at 3 months (Mean (SE) 2.4 (0.6) versus 0.8 (0.1)), and higher HADS anxiety scores at 18 and 36 months, with the largest difference found at 36 months (Mean (SE) 6.2 (1.3) versus 2.2 (0.3)).

Little is known about the evolution of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) since diagnosis and its association with glycemic and lipid control in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM).

Evaluate the actual criteria to start screening PAD with ankle-brachial index (ABI) in T2DM patients and assess its progression and relationship with glycemic and lipid control since diagnosis.

We performed a 3-year prospective cohort study with two groups group 1 (978 individuals with T2DM undergoing drug treatment) and group 2 [221 newly diagnosed drug-naive (< 3months) patients with T2DM]. PAD diagnosis was by ABI ≤ 0.90, regardless any symptoms.

As expected, abnormal ABI prevalence was higher in group 1 vs. Group 2 (87% vs. 60%, p < 0.001). However, abnormal ABI prevalence did not differ between patients over and under 50years in both groups. Our drug-naive group stabilizes ABI (0.9 ± 0.1 vs 0.9 ± 0.1, p = NS) and improved glycemic and lipid control during follow-up [glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) = 8.9 ± 2ting that current criteria to select patients to screen PAD with ABI must be simplified. An improvement in albuminuria and glycemic and lipid control could be related with ABI normalization in newly diagnosed T2DM drug-naive patients.

The benefits of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) after acute coronary syndrome (ACS) are well established. However, the relative benefit of CR in those with comorbidities, including diabetes, is not well understood. This systematic review and meta-analysis examined the benefit of CR on exercise capacity and secondary outcomes in ACS patients with a co-diagnosis of diabetes compared to those without.

Five databases were searched in May 2021 for randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies reporting CR outcomes in ACS patients with and without diabetes. The primary outcome of this study was exercise capacity expressed as metabolic equivalents (METs) at the end of CR and ≥ 12-month follow-up. Secondary outcomes included health-related quality of life, cardiovascular- and diabetes-related outcomes, lifestyle-related outcomes, psychological wellbeing, and return to work. If relevant/possible, studies were pooled using random-effects meta-analysis.

A total of 28 studies were included, of which 20 n exercise capacity in ACS patients was lower in those with diabetes than in those without diabetes. Given the small magnitude of this difference and the substantial heterogeneity in the results of the study caused by diverse study designs and methodologies, further research is needed to confirm our findings. Future work should seek to eliminate bias in observational studies and evaluate CR based on comprehensive outcomes.Plant-derived nonprecious metal catalysts are considered one of the promising candidates of platinum for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). In this work, the typical microscopic morphology of fresh green crop yam is first detected by cryoscanning electronic microscopy. Using the green and widely sourced yam with spherical starch in nature as a precursor, well-defined spherical carbons are prepared via hypersaline-assisted hydrothermal carbonization and NH3activation, featuring a high heteroatom doping level and a hierarchical porous structure. Experimental results and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that diverse off-plane Fe-Nx-Cy ensembles on the spherical carbons trigger the high performance that exceeds state-of-art Pt/C and most reported carbon catalysts toward ORR in a KOH solution. The increased charge density and the bond length of Fe coordinated in the sites should be responsible for the significantly improved property. The easily editing of off-plane active sites from the simple carbon morphology may shed light on optimizing nonprecious carbons as next-generation catalysts for ORR.

Adolescence is a critical period in human life, associated with reduced physical activity and increased sedentary behaviors. In this systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis, we evaluated the association between screen time and risk of overweight/obesity among adolescents.

A systematic search in electronic databases, including PubMed, Embase, and Scopus was performed up to September 2021. All published studies evaluating the association between screen time and risk of overweight/obesity among adolescents were retrieved. Finally, a total of 44 eligible studies were included in the meta-analysis.

The results of the two-class meta-analysis showed that adolescents at the highest category of screen time were 1.27 times more likely to develop overweight/obesity (OR = 1.273; 95% CI = 1.166-1.390; P < 0.001; I-squared (variation in ES attributable to heterogeneity) = 82.1%). The results of subgrouping showed that continent and setting were the possible sources of heterogeneity. Moreover, no evidence of non-linear association between increased screen time and risk of overweight/obesity among adolescents was observed (P-nonlinearity = 0.311).

For the first time, the current systematic review and meta-analysis revealed a positive association between screen time and overweight/obesity among adolescents without any dose-response evidence.

Protein-protein interactions (PPIs) dominate intracellular molecules to perform a series of tasks such as transcriptional regulation, information transduction, and drug signalling. The traditional wet experiment method to obtain PPIs information is costly and time-consuming.

In this paper, SDNN-PPI, a PPI prediction method based on self-attention and deep learning is proposed. The method adopts amino acid composition (AAC), conjoint triad (CT), and auto covariance (AC) to extract global and local features of protein sequences, and leverages self-attention to enhance DNN feature extraction to more effectively accomplish the prediction of PPIs. In order to verify the generalization ability of SDNN-PPI, a 5-fold cross-validation on the intraspecific interactions dataset of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (core subset) and human is used to measure our model in which the accuracy reaches 95.48% and 98.94% respectively. The accuracy of 93.15% and 88.33% are obtained in the interspecific interactions dataset of human-Beraction, but also provides new ideas for drug design and disease prevention.

In this paper, AAC, CT and AC methods are used to encode the sequence, and SDNN-PPI method is proposed to predict PPIs based on self-attention deep learning neural network. Satisfactory results are obtained on interspecific and intraspecific data sets, and good performance is also achieved in cross-species prediction. It can also correctly predict the protein interaction of cell and tumor information contained in one-core network and crossover network.The SDNN-PPI proposed in this paper not only explores the mechanism of protein-protein interaction, but also provides new ideas for drug design and disease prevention.

We established three types of root isolation conditions (no barrier, nylon barrier and solid barrier) at different P and water addition levels to address the above issue in a maize-grass pea intercropping system.

A community-based cross-sectional study involving 662 study participants was conducted at Wolaita Sodo Town from May 3 to July 3, 2021. A systematic random sampling technique was used to select the total number of participants. The data was entered using Epidata version 3, and analyzed by SPSS version 25 respectively.
