EGFR-mutation (EGFR-mt) is a major oncogenic driver mutation in lung adenocarcinoma (ADC) and is more often observed in Asian population. In lung ADC, some radiomics parameters of FDG PET have been reported to be associated with EGFR-mt. Here, the associations between EGFR-mt and PET parameters, particularly asphericity (ASP), were evaluated in Asian population.
Lung ADC patients who underwent curative surgical resection as the first treatment were retrospectively enrolled. EGFR mutation was defined as exon 19 deletion and exon 21 point mutation and was evaluated using surgical specimens. On FDG PET, image parameters of maximal standardized uptake value (SUVmax), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), total lesion glycolysis (TLG), and ASP were obtained. The parameters were compared between EGFR-mt and wild type (EGFR-wt) groups, and the relationships between these PET parameters and EGFR-mt were evaluated.
A total of 64 patients (median age 66years, MF = 3430) were included in the analysis, and 29 (45%) patients showed EGFR-mt. In EGFR-mt group, all the image parameters of SUVmax, MTV, TLG, and ASP were significantly lower than in EGFR-wt group (all adjusted
< 0.050). In univariable logistic regression, SUVmax (
= 0.003) and ASP (
= 0.010) were significant determinants for EGFR-mt, whereas MTV was not (
= 0.690). Multivariate analysis revealed that SUVmax and ASP are independent determinants for EGFR-mt, regardless of inclusion of MTV in the analysis (
< 0.05).
In Asian NSCLC/ADC patients, SUVmax, MTV, and ASP on FDG PET are significantly related to EGFR mutation status. Particularly, low SUVmax and ASP are independent determinants for EGFR-mt.

F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) is a useful imaging modality that visualizes glucose utilization. Diffuse colonic FDG uptake is frequently observed in patients being treated for diabetes mellitus (DM), especially with metformin. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether patients without increased colonic FDG uptake after taking oral hypoglycemic agents (OHA) are associated with insufficient glycemic control.
A total of 279 subjects who underwent FDG PET/CT scans for health examinations and had been diagnosed with DM and taken an OHA before the day of the FDG PET/CT were included. Colonic FDG uptake in the study subjects was visually assessed, and the maximal and mean standard uptake value (SUV) was measured. Fasting blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels at both baseline and follow-up visits as well as DM management were compared according to the colonic FDG uptake.
The mean age of study subjects was 48.8years old, and 251 of subjects were male. Positive colonic FDG uptake was observed in 200 (71.7%) subjects. Fasting blood glucose and Hb1Ac levels on the day of FDG PET/CT were higher in subjects without positive colonic FDG uptake than those with positive colonic FDG uptake (
≤ 0.001). But there was no significant difference between the two groups at follow-up visits.

This article provided the guidance prepared by the Korean Society of Nuclear Medicine (KSNM) in cooperation with the Korean Society of Infectious Disease (KSID) and Korean Society for Healthcare-Associated Infection Control and Prevention (KOSHIC) in managing the COVID-19 pandemic for the nuclear medicine department. We hope that this guidance will support every practice in nuclear medicine during this chaotic period.Analysis of individual animal bodies can provide numerous useful insights in archeology, including how humans provisioned such animals, which in turn informs on a variety of other past behaviors such as human dietary patterns. In this study, we conducted stable carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N) isotope analysis of collagen and keratin from four types of tissues from a dog burial at the Ust'-Polui site in the Iamal region of Arctic Russia. Ust'-Polui is an Iron Age site located on the Lower Ob River, a major northern fishery characterized by extreme seasonal shifts in fish presence. During a 6-month period stretching over the coldest months of the year, fish are nearly entirely absent in the Lower Ob River. Despite this, the stable isotope compositions of the dog's bone and dentine collagen and hair and nail keratin all indicate a monotonous diet focusing on local fish. This pattern indicates the dog was provisioned year-round with fish. This was likely accomplished by mass harvesting of fish using nets or traps. Such fish were then processed and frozen for consumption during the non-fishing season. These findings suggest that people in the Ust'-Polui region also relied to some extent on fish throughout the year. Stored fish likely provided a dietary buffer for uneven returns from reindeer and bird hunting, both of which also are well-evidenced at the site.
