16 min 51 s, p = .019). We also found the overall workload to be significantly lower (34.32 vs. 42.64, p = .003) for the VCA interface, and usability metrics including overall satisfaction (5.62 vs. 4.72, p  less then  .001), system usefulness (5.76 vs. 4.84, p = .001), information quality (5.43 vs. 4.62, p  less then  .001), and interface quality (5.66 vs. 4.64, p  less then  .001) to be significantly higher for this interface as well. Approximately 3 out of 4 participants preferred the VCA interface to the standard one. Although the overall time taken was slightly longer than with standard interface, the VCA interface was rated significantly better across all other measures and was preferred by the participants. These findings demonstrate the advantages of an innovative VCA interface for collecting FHx, validating the efficacy of using VCAs to collect complex patient-specific data in health care. © 2020 National Society of Genetic Counselors.Adopted persons increasingly have turned to genetic testing to obtain health information or to search for birth family. The present study investigated psychological factors that may contribute to interest among adoptees and their parents in genetic testing for the adoptee, including adoptees' ethnic identity development, their thoughts or curiosity about birth family (birth family thoughts), and the interaction of these two factors. Data were drawn from the second wave of a longitudinal study, conducted in 2014, on transracially, transnationally adopted Korean American adolescents and their adoptive parents. In a sample of 106 adolescent-parent dyads, 2 adolescents (1.89%) had undergone genetic testing. Among the dyads in which adolescents had not sought genetic testing, 47.12% of adolescents and 43.27% of parents indicated interest in genetic testing for the adolescent adoptee. Adolescents' interest in genetic testing was independent from parents' interest. Neither adolescent psychological adjustment nor physical health was related to interest in genetic testing in either adolescents or parents. Adolescents' birth family thoughts were related to adolescents' interest in genetic testing, but not to parents' interest in genetic testing for their child. This study showed ethnic identity exploration and resolution moderated the relationship between birth family thoughts and adolescents' interest in genetic testing. Results point to the relevance of birth family thoughts and identity development to genetic testing in transnational and transracial adolescent adoptees. © 2020 National Society of Genetic Counselors.T1ρ relaxation imaging is a quantitative imaging technique that has been used to assess cartilage integrity, liver fibrosis, tumors, cardiac infarction, and Alzheimer's disease. T1 , T2 , and T1ρ relaxation time constants have each demonstrated different degrees of sensitivity to several markers of fibrosis and inflammation, allowing for a potential multi-parametric approach to tissue quantification. Traditional magnetic resonance fingerprinting (MRF) has been shown to provide quick, quantitative mapping of T1 and T2 relaxation time constants. In this study, T1ρ relaxation is added to the MRF framework using spin lock preparations. SP 600125 negative control chemical structure An MRF sequence involving an RF-spoiled sequence with TR , flip angle, T1ρ , and T2 preparation variation is described. The sequence is then calibrated against conventional T1 , T2 , and T1ρ relaxation mapping techniques in agar phantoms and the abdomens of four healthy volunteers. Strong intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC > 0.9) were found between conventional and MRF sequences in phantoms and also in healthy volunteers (ICC > 0.8). The highest ICC correlation values were seen in T1 , followed by T1ρ and then T2 . In this study, T1ρ relaxation has been incorporated into the MRF framework by using spin lock preparations, while still fitting for T1 and T2 relaxation time constants. The acquisition of these parameters within a single breath hold in the abdomen alleviates the issues of movement between breath holds in conventional techniques. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.1D polymer nanomaterials have attracted significant interest in recent years because of their unique properties and promising applications in various fields. It is, however, still a challenge to fabricate polymer nanoarrays with desired sizes and controlled morphologies. Here, an unprecedented approach, the laser-assisted nanowetting (LAN) method, to selectively fabricate polymer nanoarrays is presented. Polystyrene (PS) is blended with gold nanorods (AuNRs), which are used to absorb the energy from the laser. After the blend films are brought in contact with AAO templates, the AuNRs at regions shone by the laser beams absorb the energy and heat the surrounding polymer chains, resulting in the formation of PS/AuNRs arrays in selected areas. This work paves a new research direction for developing template-based polymer nanomaterials. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Neutrophil activation produces endothelial injury by pathways that include NETosis, a type of specific cell-death. In this study, we investigated the effects of hyperglycemia on neutrophil activation, cell death, NETosis, and endothelial glycocalyx damage using a mouse diabetes model. METHODS We used db/db mice as a type 2 diabetes model, and C57BL/6 mice were the controls. At 5, 8, and 12 weeks of age, the proportion of CD11b+ granulocytes/monocytes, neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs)-forming granulocytes/monocytes, damaged and nonviable granulocytes/monocytes were analyzed. In addition, serum levels of high mobility group box-1, histone H3, and glycocalyx components that included syndecan-1 and hyaluronan were measured. RESULTS In diabetic mice, we observed an increased proportion of CD11b+ granulocytes/monocytes. The proportion of NETs-forming granulocytes/monocytes increased from the early stages of the experiments. The proportions of damaged and nonviable granulocytes/monocytes increased over time. In the 12-week old diabetes mice, serum histone H3 levels increased. Circulating levels of syndecan-1 and hyaluronan decreased over time and were lower in diabetes mice. CONCLUSION Neutrophil activation and cell death induce endothelial glycocalyx damage, and NETs formation also participates in the mechanisms of vascular injury in type 2 diabetes.
