The SNOT-22 (22-item Sinonasal Outcome Test) is a high-quality outcome measure that assesses chronic rhinosinusitis-specific quality of life. The aim of this study was to gain greater insight into the information provided by the SNOT-22 by determining its item-based psychometric properties.

Retrospective cohort study.

Tertiary care academic centers.

This study used a previously described data set of the SNOT-22 completed by 800 patients with chronic rhinosinusitis. Item response theory graded response models were used to determine parameters reflecting item discrimination, difficulty, and information provided by each item toward the SNOT-22 subdomain to which it belonged.

The unconstrained graded response model fitted the SNOT-22 data best. Item discrimination parameters and total information provided showed the greatest variability within the nasal subdomain, and the item related to sense of smell/taste demonstrated the lowest discrimination and provided the least amount of information overall. Therent levels of disease burden.The widespread use of digital technology and devices has fundamentally transformed people's social life in recent decades, particularly in interpersonal relationships. Two popular social phenomena elucidate how social connections and interactions have dramatically evolved due to technological advancement. Sexting has surfaced as a popular way of getting attention or flirting among young populations over the past decade. Online dating also has emerged as a viable avenue for people to seek interpersonal romantic and/or sexual relationships. Based on survey data collected from two Chinese universities and one U.S. university, this study links sexting and online dating by comparatively assessing the prevalence of sexting victimization and factors influencing such victimization among young online daters. Bivariate and multiple analyses reveal that American college students are more inclined than their Chinese counterparts to be victims of receiving sexts. Tacrolimus cell line Chinese students with higher degrees of rape myth acceptance are more likely to experience sexting victimization, but such an association does not exist among U.S. students. Internet-related activities were only weakly connected to sexting victimization among college students. LGBT young adults, regardless of their country affiliation, are at a higher risk for sexting misconduct. Female and younger American students were more likely to experience sexting victimization, whereas Chinese students in a romantic relationship were more inclined to experience sexting victimization. If possible, future research should employ a random sampling strategy to draw a larger number of college students from different types of universities in different regions. Future studies should include other theoretically relevant variables, such as self-control and opportunity variables, into the sexting victimization research.

We investigated the anatomical and dental factors associated with unilateral maxillary sinus fungal ball (MSFB). Also, we evaluated the effect of combinations of those factors on the incidence of MSFB.

Three hundred patients were divided into MSFB, normal, and chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) groups. We reviewed paranasal computed tomography scans for the presence of deviated nasal septum, concha bullosa (CB), Haller cells, and various dental factors. Also, we measured the ethmoid infundibulum, maxillary natural ostium, and CB.

Maxillary sinus fungal ball showed a more significant association with CB compared to the other 2 groups (37%,

< .05). The MSFB group had a lower rate of Haller cells than the normal group (10% vs 22%, respectively;

< .05). Also, the MSFB group had a wider maxillary sinus ostium than the normal group (7.07 ± 1.8 vs 5.48 ± 1.3 mm;

< .01). Moreover, the combination of CB and Haller cells was significantly associated with a decreased rate of the fungal ball (

= .047, odds ratio = 0.694). The dental factors were more prevalent in the MSFB and CRS groups (73% and 75%, respectively) than in the normal group (32%,

< .001).

Maxillary sinus fungal ball is significantly associated with CB, Haller cells, an increased maxillary sinus ostium size, and dental factors.

With paraquat off the market, cases of diquat poisoning have been gradually increasing. The kidney is the most frequently impaired organ in diquat poisoning. Few cases of multiple organ failure caused by diquat have been reported.We herein describe a 30-year-old man who orally ingested about 160 mL of enriched diquat. Despite aggressive treatment, the patient's condition progressed to multiple organ failure and death. The pulmonary lesions in this patient were different from those previously reported. This patient did not die of renal failure but of severe respiratory failure. He exhibited three different stages of pulmonary disease.The lung lesions in this case were unique. We hope that doctors will pay more attention to the lung lesions in patients with diquat poisoning in future and find new treatment methods to save the lives of such patients.

To compare the outcomes of patients with non-traumatic cardiac arrest (CA) who received early versus late mechanical cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with the Lund University Cardiac Assist System (LUCAS) device in the emergency department (ED).

This was a retrospective observational study in the ED of a single medical center performed from May 2018 to December 2019; 68 patients with CA were eligible. We grouped the patients according to the time to initiating LUCAS use after CA into an early group (≤4 minutes) and late group (>4 minutes).

The rate of return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) was higher in the early group vs the late group (69.2% vs 52.4%, respectively). The 4-hour survival rate was significantly higher in the early group vs the late group (83.3% vs 45.5%, respectively), and CPR duration was significantly shorter in the early group (23.3 ± 12.5 vs 31.1 ± 14.8 minutes, respectively).

Early mechanical CPR can improve the success of achieving ROSC and the 4-hour survival rate in patients with non-traumatic CA in the ED, considering that more benefits were observed in patients who received early vs late LUCAS device therapy.
