Purpose This study analyzed the physiological response during Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Level 1 (YYIR1) test and re-test by in-field ergospirometry and time-series analyses of respiratory parameters. Methods Ten moderately trained males (23.4 ± 2.01 years, VO2peak= 56.81 ± 10.75 mL·kg-1·min-1) completed three running trials including two separate YYIR1 tests and an independent maximal performance running test with time-series analyses of gas exchange parameters. Physiological response was assessed during all tests by determination of blood lactate levels (including calculation of individual lactate threshold), heart rate, oxygen consumption and respiratory exchange ratio (RER). Results Modeling of YYIR1 test mean VO2 uptake kinetics over all participants revealed that VO2 increased rapidly after the individual lactate threshold (11.49 ± 0.66 km∙h-1 at 3.83 ± 0.42 mmol∙L-1) was reached with ~95% VO2peak at ~50% of the test duration (test, VO250%= 95.17 ± 8.74% of VO2peak; re-test, VO250%= 96.78 ± 7.04% of VO2peak). However, and despite identical YYIR1 test performance (1568 ± 364.6 m vs. 1568 ± 449.7 m, CV = 4.59%), mean VO2peak during YYIR1 test was 8.81 ± 5.6% higher than YYIR1 re-test (p = .027). Importantly, correlation of VO2peak with YYIR1 test performance was weak (R2 = 0.28, p = .115). Conclusions We conclude that the YYIR1 test should not be used to estimate VO2peak. Further studies on direct determination of gas exchange parameters during different YYI test variants are warranted.Purpose To report a case of chronic anterior uveitis associated with relapsing polychondritis (RP).Case Report A 43-year-old female patient presenting with bilateral progressive vision loss was diagnosed with bilateral anterior uveitis. According to her clinical signs and symptoms and biopsy results, RP was ultimately diagnosed. Her ocular inflammation was controlled with corticosteroids and systemic immunosuppressive treatment, and the symptoms related to RP improved.Conclusion Chronic uveitis is an inflammatory disease that may be associated with many systemic autoimmune diseases. RP should especially be considered in patients with bilateral chronic uveitis, and a relevant detailed history should be obtained for early and accurate diagnosis and treatment.Purpose Normal-hearing (NH) children acquire plural morphemes at different rates, with the segmental allomorphs /-s, -z/ (e.g., cat-s) being acquired before the syllabic allomorph /-əz/ (e.g., bus-es). Children with hearing loss (HL) have been reported to show delays in the production of plural morphology, raising the possibility that this might be due to challenges acquiring different types of lexical/morphological representations. This study therefore examined the comprehension of plural morphology by 3- to 7-year-olds with HL and compared this with performance by their NH peers. We also investigated comprehension as a function of wearing hearing aids (HAs) versus cochlear implants (CIs). Dactinomycin Method Participants included 129 NH children aged 3-5 years and 25 children with HL aged 3-7 years (13 with HAs, 12 with CIs). All participated in a novel word two-alternative forced-choice task presented on an iPad. The task tested comprehension of the segmental (e.g., teps, mubz) and syllabic (e.g., kosses) plural, as well as their singular counterparts (e.g., tep, mub, koss). Results While the children with NH were above chance for all conditions, those with HL performed at chance. As a group, the performance of the children with HL did not improve with age. However, results suggest possible differences between children with HAs and those with CIs, where those with HAs appeared to be in the process of developing representations of consonant-vowel-consonant singulars. Conclusions Results suggest that preschoolers with HL do not yet have a robust representation of plural morphology for words they have not heard before. However, those with HAs are beginning to access the singular/plural system as they get older.What is judged as morally right and wrong in war? I argue that despite many decades of research on moral psychology and the psychology of intergroup conflict, social psychology does not yet have a good answer to this question. However, it is a question of great importance because its answer has implications for decision-making in war, public policy, and international law. I therefore suggest a new way for psychology researchers to study the morality of war that combines the strengths of philosophical just-war theory with experimental techniques and theories developed for the psychological study of morality more generally. BACKGROUND Initial exosystem sizing and fit evaluations are currently based on scalar anthropometric dimensions and subjective assessments. As fit depends on ongoing interactions related to task setting and user, attempts to tailor equipment have limitations when optimizing for this limited fit definition. METHOD A targeted literature review was conducted to inform a conceptual framework defining three characteristics of exosystem fit static, dynamic, and cognitive. Details are provided on the importance of differentiating fit characteristics for developing exosystems. RESULTS Static fit considers alignment between human and equipment and requires understanding anthropometric characteristics of target users and geometric equipment features. Dynamic fit assesses how the human and equipment move and interact with each other, with a focus on the relative alignment between the two systems.
