Experimentally, studies confirmed that H-bonds and LAII s can interact directly with the oxido ligand in FeIV-oxido complexes, which weakens the Fe═O bond and has an impact on the electronic structure. We found that relatively large vibrational changes in the Fe-oxido unit correlate with small structural changes that could be difficult to measure, especially within a protein active site. Our work demonstrates the important role of noncovalent interactions on the properties of metal complexes, and that these interactions need to be considered when developing effective oxidants. The silicon atom in LSiCl or LSiMes (L = PhC(NtBu)2, Mes = 2,4,6-Me3C6H2) inserts into the B-X bond of RBX2 (R = Ph, Mes, N(SiMe3)2; X = Cl, Br), which is followed by the migration of the amidinate ligand and the halide atom. By this way, LB(R)SiCl3 (R = Ph, 2; Mes, 3; N(SiMe3)2, 4) and LB(R)SiX2Mes (R = Ph, X = Cl, 5; R = Mes, X = Cl, 6; R = Mes, X = Br, 7) were obtained. Furthermore, a silylene-borane adduct LClSi → BPhCl2 (1) was obtained as an intermediate in the formation of compound 2. Compounds 2-7 are rare examples of borylhalosilanes.Interfacial solar-driven evaporation is an effective and sustainable approach to convert solar energy to heat for desalination. However, maintaining a rapid evaporation rate and long-term stability is a critical challenge that needs to be addressed urgently to facilitate practical applications of this technology. Here, taking advantage of the inherent porosity, wettability, and low thermal conductivity of wood, we develop a flexible and mildew-resistant aerogel derived from natural wood as the substrate of evaporators for stable and efficient solar desalination. The wood-derived aerogel not only possesses good hydrophilicity, low thermal conductivity, and light weight, which are favorable to realize heat localization and efficient water evaporation, but also avoids fragility and mildew problems that seriously restricted long-term stability of wood-based evaporators. With high absorbance (>95%) of Au-rGO coating, the evaporator showed a high solar to vapor efficiency of 90.1% and an evaporation rate of 1.394 kg m-2 h-1 under 1 sun. During 120 h desalination, the evaporator transports brine for evaporation in the day and achieves dissolution of salt residues in the night, exhibiting a repetitive self-cleaning behavior, which enables the recovery of desalination stability. The multiple functionalities of the wood-derived aerogel make the evaporator promising as an attractive device for stable and continuous solar desalination. As a novel approach to the in situ real-time investigation of an ITO electrode during the wet etching process, step-excitation Fourier-transform electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (FT-EIS) was implemented. The equivalent circuit parameters (e.g., Rct, Cdl) continuously obtained by the FT-EIS measurements during the entire etching process showed an electrode activation at the initial period as well as the completion of etching. The FT-EIS results were further validated by cyclic voltammograms and impedance measurements of partially etched ITO films using ferri- and ferrocyanide solution in combination with FESEM imaging, EDS, XRD analyses, and COMSOL simulation. We also demonstrated that this technique can be further utilized to obtain intact interdigitated array (IDA) electrodes in a reproducible manner, which is generally considered to be quite tricky due to delicacy of the pattern. Given that the FT-EIS allows for instantaneous snapshots of the electrode at every moment, this work may hold promise for in situ real-time examination of structural, electrokinetic, or mass transfer-related information on electrochemical systems undergoing constantly changing, transient processes including etching, which would be impossible with conventional electroanalytical techniques.Histone demethylases (HDMs) are vital players in epigenetic regulation and important targets in cancer treatment, but effective molecular tools for analyzing HDMs activity are still limited. Interestingly, we found that the process of Ag+-triggered oxidation of O-phenylenediamine (OPD) to 2,3-diaminophenazine (OPDox) could be efficiently inhibited by formaldehyde (HCHO), with the decrease of fluorescent and colorimetric signals from OPDox. Accordingly, we developed a novel label-free fluorescent and colorimetric dual-readout assay for HDMs activity based on direct quantitation of HCHO liberated in the demethylation process. On the basis of the excellent performance of the Ag+-OPD-based method for HCHO quantitation, lysine-specific demethylase 1(LSD1) activity was not only successfully detected with a low detection limit of 0.3 nM (fluorescence) and 0.5 nM (colorimetric) but also observed by the naked eye. Moreover, the feasibility of the proposed assay was further expanded to assess the LSD1 activity in cancer cell lysate and its inhibition through a mix-and-readout procedure. This label-free, cost-effective, and highly sensitive dual-readout assay presents a valuable tool for epigenetics research and drug discovery. Objective Ovarian response from a conventional ovarian stimulation protocol is a crucial step in IVF/ICSI treatments. This ovarian response encompasses a wide range of outcomes at the extremes, leading to either excessive responses with the risk of life-threatening conditions like ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), or poor ovarian response (POR) with poor outcomes. This study aims to integrate biochemical, ultrasonographic and demographic parameters into a mathematical formula able to predict ovarian response to stimulation in IVF/ICSI in gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist protocols. Methods This retrospective analysis included 147 patients submitted to an ovarian stimulation protocol combining recombinant FSH and gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist. All the parameters were correlated with the Spearman Rho and Pearson´s correlation coefficient. Once the data was normalized, we used the multiple linear regression models, checking the results with the progressive discriminating analysis. Results We classified the database according to the correlation with the number of oocytes retrieved; the progressive discriminating analysis resulted in the following equation oocytes retrieved = 2.312-0.130 (FSH) + 0.562 (AFC). Conclusions The incorporation of 2 ovarian reserve parameters into a regression equation enables knowing the number of retrieved oocytes in each patient with 80.5% sensitivity and 55.4% specificity.Alginic acid is a polysaccharide widely present in the cellular walls of brown algae. Alginate is widely used as a mold material in dentistry, in the production of prostheses and in the production of positives for small-scale casting. It is also used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industries for various uses. The purpose of our study is to assess whether the chemical and physical characteristics of water can influence the characteristics and performance of these materials. These impression materials are often marketed as a powder to be mixed with water, but water is not included during the purchase. We have considered different articles, but unfortunately the results that speak of this topic are few and contain little information. We have therefore carried out a review of the present literature on Pubmed and Embase search engine. The same product used by two people with two different waters will have different characteristics. The possibility of knowing these effects could allow for more performing materials and above all for identical and reproducible materials. In conclusions, the results indicate to follow the manufacturer's instructions, and eventually turn to the use of automatic devices. Background The aim of this study was to correlate the self-report oral health, oral hygiene and dental assistance with clinic intercurrences with hospitalization in adults in End-Stage Kidney Disease patients. Methods Seventy-seven patients were interviewed during dialysis therapy concerning their self-report oral health, oral hygiene habits and available dental assistance. Clinical intercurrences were assessed in clinical records. Pearson correlations and linear regression tests were applied for statistical analysis. Results There was a strong negative correlation between the number of brushing times/day and patient hospitalization; there was a negative correlation between oral health and patient hospitalization, there was a positive correlation between the number of teeth in the mouth and oral diseases. Conclusions The study shows an important correlation between oral health, oral hygiene habits, dental assistance and clinical intercurrences with hospitalization in dialysis patients. The results are weighty to establish protocols that can, directly improve, critical health outcomes of end-stage kidney disease patients under dialysis treatment. Background The objective of this retrospective study was to characterize the outpatient oral medicine referral pattern for tongue lesions with particular emphasis on cancer. Methods Records of patients referred to the Oral Medicine department for any tongue lesions needing biopsy between 2009 and 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. All cases diagnosed as tongue cancer were screened for medical history, referral pattern, treatment/diagnosis/follow-up. Results Among 266 patients, 39 were diagnosed with cancer, 43.6% were smokers and 10.3% alcohol consumers, 38.5% felt pain, 53.8% noticed the lesion or felt its presence, 46.2% were referred from another specialist. For people aware or informed of the lesion. the mean time waited before consultation was 7.9 months. In 53.8% of cases, narrow-band-imaging guided the biopsy. In 29 patients, biopsy was performed the day of the visit. Patients were referred from dentists (42.1%), Primary-care-Physician (10.5%), Emergency-Dental-Unit (7.9%), Radiotherapist (7.9%), Otolaryngologist (7.9%), Dermatologist (26%), infectious diseases unit (2.6%), auto-referral in 18.4%. Lesion was defined by referring doctor as "suspicious" (13.1%), white (10.5%), vegentans (5.3%), Lichen-like (5.3%), ulcerative (2.6%), Tumoral (26.3%), Bollous (2.6%). An unweighted Kappa Value of 0.024, assessed low concordance between referral diagnosis and diagnosis performed by the Oral Medicine specialist before the biopsy. Conclusions Patients are not always aware of the risk of oral cancer. Accurate information should be provided to patients as well as to specialists rather than just dentists as regard as the risk factors for oral cancer, the importance of referral to specialized departments and timing. The use of new technologies should be widespread. Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a tailored treatment dental program in adolescents in combination with a professional oral hygiene. Methods Ninety-three adolescents (43 males and 50 females; mean age 14±1.1 years) were included in this study and Plaque Index (PI) and simplified basic periodontal examination (BPE) were measured for each patient at T0 (screening) and at T1 (after 30 days). At T0 a professional dental hygiene treatment was performed and a tailored oral hygiene instruction protocol was adopted. All data were statistically analyzed using Student's t-test and the level of significance was set at P less then 0.05. Results A statistically significant decrease of PI was found from T0 (2.3±0.6) to T1 (0.9±0.3) (P less then 0.05). Moreover, also a significant decrease (P less then 0.05) of BPE was observed after 30 days. SRI011381 Girls exhibited a higher significant BPE index improvement (0.47±0.2) in comparison to boys (0.3±0.1) at the end of the follow-up (P less then 0.05).
