Cognitive, anxiety, and mobility disability are components of the FOG phenotype, however, no study has investigated if poor sleep quality is associated with all three components that underlie FOG in PD.

Forty and 39 individuals with and without FOG (PD + FOG and PD-FOG), respectively, and 31 age-matched healthy controls (HC) participated in this study. Self-reported FOG (new-FOG questionnaire-NFOGQ), sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index-PSQI), cognitive function (Montreal Cognitive Assessment-MoCA), anxiety (subscale from Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-HADS-A), and mobility (timed-up-and-go test-TUG) were assessed.
PSQI scores were correlated with the scores of NFOGQ, MoCA, HADS-A, and TUG time in PD + FOG (P ≤ 0.0038). The multiple regression analysis identified the PSQI s-A, and TUG time than PD-FOG and HC (P less then 0.05). Thus, poor sleep quality is associated with FOG and all three components that underlie FOG, regardless of the disease severity. link3 Therefore, treatments useful to decrease FOG should be targeted to ameliorate sleep quality, cognition, anxiety, and mobility.

Our objective was to evaluate the combined role of walking energetics and hip abductor strength on physical activity in older women with hip OA.
We evaluated 30 women with moderately symptomatic hip OA (61 ± 10 yrs; 30.7 ± 4.9 kg/m
) in this cross-sectional observational study. We measured physical activity using the UCLA activity score and quantified activity frequency and intensity using accelerometers worn for seven days (7 ± 2 days). We used a portable oxygen exchange system to measure energy used during walking at preferred speeds (relative to total energy capacity assessed using a six-minute walk test) and a dynamometer to measure hip abductor strength. We used Pearson correlations and regression analysis to test our hypotheses.
Greater energy used during walking was associated with lower self-reported physical activity (R=-0.626, p < 0.001), more sedentary time (R = 0.567, p = 0.002), and less light activity time (R=-0.644, p < 0.001). Lower hip abductor strength was associated with lower self-reported physical activity (R = 0.406, p = 0.039). While there was no association between hip abductor strength and energy used during walking, together these variables predicted 55.5 % of the variance in self-reported physical activity.

Findings from our study suggest that cervical spine afferent input plays an important role in maintaining unilateral postural balance in hockey players, with less evidence presented in controls. Sports specific posture or upper body loading could lead to adaptations in neck proprioception, not frequently considered when searching for balance related injury risk factors or performance deficits.
