Adequate preparation and support for healthcare workers (HCWs) managing high-consequence infectious diseases (HCIDs) is critical to the overall clinical management of HCIDs. Qualitative studies examining how well prepared and supported HCWs feel are lacking despite their key role. This study investigated how prepared and supported front-line HCWs at an Australian tertiary hospital felt about managing HCIDs such as viral haemorrhagic fever (VHF).

A qualitative research approach was used to undertake interviews with 45 Royal Melbourne Hospital medical and nursing staff from emergency, intensive care and infectious diseases. Recent retrospective data has shown positive results, and several nonrandomized clinical trials (NRCTs) have evaluated this strategy. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis of available NRCTs to clarify the efficacy and safety of salvage nivolumab-ipilimumab in mRCC after prior anti-PD-1/PD-L1 monotherapy. We searched PubMed, Medline, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials to identify clinical trials investigating the efficacy and safety of salvage nivolumab-ipilimumab after prior anti-PD-1/PD-L1 in patients with mRCC. Only phase II NRCTs were available for the analysis. The pooled effect of single proportions with a 95% confidence interval (CI) was used as the measure of effect (overall response rate [ORR] and incidence of grade ≥ 3 adverse events). Four studies accounting for 237 patients were included. All patients received prior anti-PD-1/PD-L1 monotherapy. The pooled ORR of salvage nivolumab-ipilimumab after prior anti-PD-1/PD-L1 failure was 10.0% (95% CI, 6%-14%; I2 = 41%; P = .17). The incidence of grade ≥ 3 irAEs was 27.0% (95% CI, 20%-35%; I2 = 0%; P = .56). The results of this analysis suggest that the use of salvage nivolumab-ipilimumab in mRCC after prior anti-PD-1/PD-L1 has limited activity with a 10% ORR, and a non-negligible toxicity with 1 of 4 patients developing grade ≥ 3 immune-related adverse events.

For this study we used a cohort of runners participating in an ongoing randomized controlled trial on running injury prevention among recreational runners. At baseline, demographic and training variables were collected. Seven weeks after starting the lockdown, information on running behavior (interval training, training with partner and physical distancing during training) and running habits (training frequency, duration, distance and speed) were obtained. Furthermore, healthcare utilization and symptoms suggestive for COVID-19 were assessed. To determine the association between running and symptoms suggestive for COVID-19, univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed.

The aim of this study was to assess the risk factors associated with medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws in oncologic patients undergoing bisphosphonate treatment. In addition, salivary levels of interleukin-6, IL-6, were measured to investigate their association with severity and risk of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws.

Case-control study with 74 patients with bone metastases from solid tumors and multiple myeloma was included. Patients were divided into three groups 1) those undergoing bisphosphonate treatment with medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws; 2) those undergoing bisphosphonate without medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws; and 3) those with bisphosphonate pretreatment. The demographic and medical data of the patients were collected to assess risk. The clusion protocol, no dental follow-up for oral health maintenance and smoking were associated with medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws. Specialized dental follow up during bisphosphonate treatment has been shown to be an important factor in preventing this complication.

Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in young adult patients is rare, with scarce data available in patients aged< 40 years and even less in those aged< 35 years. Our goal was to determine the presenting symptoms, clinicopathologic characteristics, and imaging features of young patients with NSCLC at time of diagnosis and compare them to those of older adults.

We retrospectively analyzed the medical records and imaging of young patients (≤ 40 years old) with NSCLC treated at our institution between 1998 and 2018. Patients<35 years old were compared to those between 35 and 40 years old. Characteristics of patients≤ 40 years old were compared to older patients (> 40 years) from publicly available data sets.

We identified 166 young patients with NSCLC (median age, 36.6 years; range, 18-40 years). Most presented with nonspecific respiratory symptoms and were diagnosed with pneumonia (84/136, 62%). Compared to patients< 35 years old, patients 35-40 years old were more likely to have malignancy detected incidentally (15% vs. 5%, P= .04). Patients< 35 years old were more likely to have central tumors (55% vs. 33%, P= .02) and to have bone (38% vs. 19%, P= .007) and lung (39% vs. 24%, P= .03) metastases. Compared to older patients (> 40 years), young patients were more likely to be never smokers (65.0% vs. 14.7%, P< .001) and to have advanced disease (88% vs. 66%, P< .001).

In the present review, we summarize the cellular and tissular events that occur in a heart exposed to hyperglycaemia, and depict the complex molecular mechanisms proposed to be involved in glucotoxicity. It is uncertain whether the prognosis of Barcelona Clinical Liver Cancer (BCLC) stage 0 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has improved.

A total of 591 patients with BCLC stage 0 HCC diagnosed at Samsung Medical Center, Seoul, Korea were grouped based on year of diagnosis (earlier cohort; 2007-2009 and later cohort; 2013-2015) and compared.

The overall survival (OS) was improved for BCLC stage 0 patients at later cohort (5-year survival rate 82.1% vs. 92.0% for earlier cohort and later cohort, p = 0.015). However, after adjustment, the treatment period was not an independent factor for OS, especially when the albumin-bilirubin (ALBI) grade was adjusted. The incidence of liver cirrhosis (LC)-related death was increased from 10.4% to 33.3%, while the incidence of HCC-related death decreased from 57.5% to 28.6% in the latter cohort.
