For the first time it is shown that the development of resistance to melittin in Acholeplasma laidlawii, a mycoplasma that is widely spread in nature and that is the main contaminant of cell cultures and vaccines, is associated with significant changes in the genomic profile, in cellular and vesicular proteomes, as well as in virulence.The growth-stimulating activity of three selenium nanocomposites (NCs) in various matrices based on arabinogalactan (NC Se/AG, 6.4% Se), starch (NC Se/St, 2% Se), and carrageenan (NC Se/Car, 12% Se) with respect to plants of radish, soybean, and potato was investigated. It was shown that the treatment of plant seeds with NCs stimulated root growth during germination. It was found that the studied NCs affected both the level of lipid peroxidation and the activity of the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase (GPX). The treatment of radish seeds with NCs stimulated root growth during their germination and reduced the content of diene conjugates (DC) in root tissues. It was shown that soaking seeds in NC Se/AG solution increased the GPX activity in the tissues of the radish root by 40%. Stimulation of soybean root growth under the influence of NC Se/Car may also be associated with the activation of GPX. Furthermore, in potato plants, this NC led to the stimulation of germination; however, this was probably due to the activation of other antioxidant enzymes. The results obtained allow us to consider Se NCs as potential plant growth stimulants.A new neurotoxin RTX-VI that modulates the voltage-gated sodium channels (NaV) was isolated from the ethanolic extract of the sea anemone Heteractis crispa. Its amino acid sequence was determined using the combination of Edman degradation and tandem mass spectrometry. RTX-VI turned out to be an unusual natural analogue of the previously described sea anemone toxin RTX-III. The RTX-VI molecule consists of two disulfide-linked peptide chains and is devoid of Arg13, which is important for the selectivity and affinity of such peptides for the NaV channels. Electrophysiological screening of RTV-VI on NaV channel subtypes showed its selective interaction with the central nervous system (NaV1.2, NaV1.6) and insect (BgNaV1, VdNaV1) sodium channels.The study was carried out on samples of invasive breast carcinoma of no special type from 36 patients aged 48.0 to 62.8 years. Thus, it was demonstrated that the acquired fruit pigmentation retains strict phylogenetic limitations, which, however, can be overcome using artificial selection for the activity of phytoene synthase PSY1.The damage to blood coagulation factor XIII (FXIII) at different stages of its enzymatic activation under the action of various physiological amounts of hypochlorite ion was studied. The results obtained by HPLC-MS/MS, SDS-PAGE, and colorimetry showed that, during the conversion of FXIII to FXIIIa, the vulnerability of FXIII to hypochlorite-induced oxidation increased. FXIII oxidized with 150 μM hypochlorite completely retained its enzymatic activity inherent to the intact protein, whereas FXIIIa treated with 50 μM hypochlorite showed sharply reduced enzymatic activity. Cancer poses a substantial health and economic burden on patients and caregivers in Canada. Previous reviews have estimated the indirect cost burden as work-related productivity losses associated with cancer. However, these estimates require updating and complementing with more comprehensive data that include relevant dimensions beyond labor market costs, such as patient time, lost leisure time and home productivity losses.

A systematic review of the literature was conducted to identify studies published from 2006 to 2020 that measured and reported the indirect costs borne by cancer patients and their caregivers in Canada, from the patient, caregiver, employer, and societal perspectives. Study characteristics and cost estimation methods were extracted from relevant studies. Costs estimates were reported and converted to 2020 CAD for the following categories lost earnings, caregiving time costs, home production losses, patient time (leisure), morbidity-, disability-, premature mortality-related costs, friction costs, and overall productivity losses.
