Purpose An important role of social communication assessment is to support intervention planning as adolescents with disabilities transition to workplaces and other adult settings. Adoption of evidence-based assessment practices would align professionals with legal and ethical mandates for schools and other settings. There is, however, limited adoption of evidence-based assessment selection. The COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) provide a structured approach to identifying assessments with sufficient validity and reliability backed by strong evidence. The purpose of this review was to identify directly administered social communication assessments for adolescents and to apply the COSMIN framework to evaluate their measurement properties. Method A systematic search identified 13 assessments designed for 14- to 21-year-olds with developmental disabilities putting them at risk for social communication deficits. Measurement properties were extracted from included studies and rated for sufficiency. The quality of evidence supporting the findings was graded using COSMIN guidelines. Results Five social communication assessments were recommended as having sufficient evidence of content validity and internal consistency. Remaining assessments could be recommended as gaps in the evidence for their measurement properties are filled. Conclusions The application of the COSMIN standards has the potential to advance evidence-based assessment for social communication. There were important gaps in the independent replication of measurement properties and methodological shortcomings in the evaluation of reliability, measurement error, and structural validity.Due to poor bioavailability and chemical instability, the effectiveness of curcumin is negligible in the treatment of numerous diseases. Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) increase the bioavailability of lipophilic compounds and protect the drug from gastrointestinal degradation. The objective of our study is the utilization of SLNs to improve the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of curcumin in the management of diabetes mellitus. Central composite design was used to prepare curcumin-loaded SLNs (Cur-SLN). The analysis of independent variables like drug concentration, lipid concentration, and surfactant concentration was carried out using analysis of variance (ANOVA) to obtain the optimized batch (optimized Cur-SLN) having the desired values of dependent variables particle size and entrapment efficiency. In vitro release, differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) studies of optimized Cur-SLN were carried out and then its pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies were performed. The model was found to be significant for particle size and entrapment efficiency based on F-value and p-value. The optimized batch's predicted values were in close agreement with the actual values of particle size and entrapment efficiency. find more TEM results confirm mono-dispersion and spherical shape of particles in the formulation. The DSC results confirmed the changing of drug from crystalline to amorphous form. Burst release followed by the sustained release was obtained in the in vitro release studies. The pharmacokinetic study shows enhanced bioavailability of optimized Cur-SLN compared with a plain drug suspension. The optimized Cur-SLN achieved higher antidiabetic activity in streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus rats than the plain drug suspension. SLNs can be used as a promising technique for delivering curcumin in the management of diabetes mellitus.

Assessing the evolution of SARS-CoV-2 immune response among patients receiving dialysis can define its durability in a highly clinically relevant context because patients receiving dialysis share the characteristics of persons most susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection.

To evaluate the persistence of SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding domain (RBD) IgG in seroprevalent patients receiving dialysis.

Prospective.

Nationwide sample from dialysis facilities.

2215 patients receiving dialysis who had evidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection as of July 2020.

Remainder plasma from routine monthly laboratories was used to measure semiquantitative RBD IgG index value over 6 months.

A total of 2063 (93%) seroprevalent patients reached an assay detectable response (IgG index value ≥1). Most (

= 1323, 60%) had responses in July with index values classified as high (IgG ≥10); 1003 (76%) remained within this stratum. Adjusted median index values declined slowly but continuously (July vs. December values were 21 vs. 13;

< 0.001). The trajectory of the response did not vary by age group, sex, race/ethnicity, or diabetes status. Patients without an assay detectable response (

= 137) were more likely to be White and in the younger (18 to 44 years) or older (≥80 years) age groups and less likely to have diabetes and hypoalbuminemia.

Currently available questionnaires are limited in their ability to meet this need because of (a) inability to evaluate noise exposures beyond a limited time frame, (b) lack of consensus on scoring, (c) inability to assess impulse exposures (e.g., firearm use), (d) lack of a single questionnaire that assesses both military and nonmilitary exposures, and (e) lack of validity and reliability data. To address these limitations, the Lifetime Exposure to Noise and Solvents Questionnaire (LENS-Q) was developed. The purpose of this report is to describe the development and initial validation of the LENS-Q as a measure of self-reported noise exposure. Method Six hundred ninety participants, consisting of current Service members and recently military-separated (within about 2.5 years) Veterans, completed the LENS-Q, additional study questionnaires, and comprehensive audiometric testing.
