Improvements in throughput and clot detection in the presence of interfering substances were also shown.Cell therapy has become a novel promising approach for improvement of cardiac functional capacity in the instances of ventricular remodeling and fibrosis caused by episodes of coronary artery occlusion and hypoxia. The challenge toward enhancing cell engraftment as well as formation of functional tissue, however, necessitated combinatorial approaches. Here, we complemented human embryonic stem cell-derived cardiac progenitor cell (hESC-CPC) therapy by heparin-conjugated, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-loaded fibrin hydrogel as VEGF delivery system. Transplantation of these cardiac committed cells along with sustained VEGF release could surpass the cardiac repair effects of each constituent alone in a rat model of acute myocardial infarction. The histological sections of rat hearts revealed improved vascularization as well as inclusion of hESC-CPC-derived cardiomyocytes, endothelial, and smooth muscle cells in host myocardium. Thus, co-transplantation of hESC-CPC and proangiogenic factor by a suitable delivery rate may resolve the shortcomings of conventional cell therapy.
The use of professional medical writers (PMWs) has been historically low, but contemporary data regarding PMW usage are scarce. In this study, we sought to quantify PMW use in oncologic phase III randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
We performed a database query through ClinicalTrials.gov to identify cancer-specific phase III RCTs; we then identified whether a PMW was involved in writing the associated trial manuscript reporting primary endpoint results.
Two-hundred sixty trials of 600 (43.3%) used a PMW. Industry-funded trials used PMWs more often than nonindustry trials (54.9% vs. 3.0%, p < .001). Increased PMW usage was further noted among trials meeting their primary endpoint (53.4% vs. 32.9%, p < .001) and trials that led to subsequent Food and Drug Administration approval (63.1% vs. 36.3%, p < .001). By treatment interventions, PMW use was highest among systemic therapy trials (50.2%). Lastly, the use of PMWs increased significantly over time (odds ratio 1.11/year, p = .001).
PMW use rates are high among industry-funded trials. We urge continued and increased transparency in reporting the funding and use of PMWs.

The measures implemented to manage the COVID-19 pandemic have been shown to impair mental health. This problem is likely to be exacerbated for carers.
Informal carers (mainly parents) of children and adults with intellectual disabilities, and a comparison group of parents of children without disabilities, completed an online questionnaire. Almost all the data were collected while strict lockdown conditions were in place.
Relative to carers of children without intellectual disability, carers of both children and adults with intellectual disability had significantly greater levels of a wish fulfilment coping style, defeat/entrapment, anxiety, and depression. Differences were 2-3 times greater than reported in earlier pre-pandemic studies. Positive correlations were found between objective stress scores and all mental health outcomes. Despite their greater mental health needs, carers of those with intellectual disability received less social support from a variety of sources.
The greater mental health needs of carers in the context of lesser social support raises serious concerns. We consider the policy implications of these findings.

Within Asia, there is large variability in several cultural, social and economic factors ultimately influencing the management of asthma. Differences in risk factors and asthma management practices across Asia make asthma a truly 'mixed-bag' phenomenon. With the advent of biological agents and the consequent emphasis on asthma phenotyping and endotyping, it is more important than ever to understand the diverse nature of asthma as a disease. This is a collaborative review within Asia to highlight the differences in management of adult asthma, and the local modifications that are made to international guidelines. This review paves the way for a future Asian collaborative network in asthma epidemiological research.The robust steady-state cortical activation elicited by flickering visual stimulation has been exploited by a wide range of scientific studies. As the fundamental neural response inherits the spectral properties of the gazed flickering, the paradigm has been used to chart cortical characteristics and their relation to pathologies. However, despite its widespread adoption, the underlying neural mechanisms are not well understood. Here, we show that the fundamental response is preceded by high-gamma (55-125 Hz) oscillations which are also synchronised to the gazed frequency. UNC5293 molecular weight Using a subdural recording of the primary and associative visual cortices of one human subject, we demonstrate that the latencies of the high-gamma and fundamental components are highly correlated on a single-trial basis albeit that the latter is consistently delayed by approximately 55 ms. These results corroborate previous reports that top-down feedback projections are involved in the generation of the fundamental response, but, in addition, we show that trial-to-trial variability in fundamental latency is paralleled by a highly similar variability in high-gamma latency. Pathology- or paradigm-induced alterations in steady-state responses could thus originate either from deviating visual gamma responses or from aberrations in the neural feedback mechanism. Experiments designed to tease apart the two processes are expected to provide deeper insights into the studied paradigm.
