CONCLUSION The regular changes of blood coagulation indices in twin pregnancy complicated with PE had great predictive and diagnostic value of preeclampsia.OBJECTIVE To compare lipoprotein levels, and non-HDL to high-density lipoprotein (HDL) ratios of survivors and nonsurvivors of sepsis, and to determine the predictivity levels of specified parameters in mortality. STUDY DESIGN Descriptive study. PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY Department of Internal Medicine, Kirikkale University, School of Medicine, Training and Research Hospital, Kirikkale, Turkey, from December 2017 to December 2018. METHODOLOGY The study subjects included 37 non-survivors and 32 survivors of sepsis with similar ages, comorbidities, and disease activities. The total lipoprotein levels, and non-HDL to HDL ratios of the participants were compared retrospectively. RESULTS HDL and non-HDL to HDL ratios were found to be different between the two groups. The cut-off levels of these values were determined as 32 and 3.4, respectively. The cut-off levels found in the study suggest that the low HDL levels and high non-HDL to HDL ratios significantly increase the mortality risk for patients (OR=1.8 and 3.45, respectively). CONCLUSION Non-HDL to HDL ratio may be used as a useful tool for predicting sepsis mortality. These values may also be included as a part of scoring systems. Further investigations are needed to clarify the role of lipoproteins in sepsis.OBJECTIVE To explore the relationship between serum sB7-H3 and cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6) and to evaluate the development of Mycoplasma pneumonae pneumonia (MPP) through analysis of the expression levels of above indices in serum of children with MPP. STUDY DESIGN An experimental study. PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY Department of Clinical Laboratory, Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, China, from January 2018 to August 2019. METHODOLOGY One hundred and eight children with MPP were divided into severe MPP group (53 cases) and mild MPP group (55 cases) according to children's condition. CONCLUSION Detection of SB7-H3, TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6 levels may be conducive to early diagnosis of MPP and the judgement of the severity of this disease.OBJECTIVE To explore the value of des-gamma-carboxyprothrombin (DCP), alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and carbohydrate antigen-199 (CA-199) for diagnosis of combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma (cHCC-CC). STUDY DESIGN Observational correlational study design. PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY The First Affiliated Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, from June 2016 to June 2019. METHODOLOGY Patients with cHCC-CC (n = 26) diagnosed by histological examination and immunohistochemical staining were matched as 12 to controls (n = 52) based on age (±2 years), gender (male or female), liver texture (cirrhosis or not) and ethnicity. Serum DCP, AFP and CA-199 levels were determined and Youden indices were calculated. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were generated and areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) were calculated. RESULTS The levels of DCP, AFP and CA-199 were clearly elevated in the cHCC-CC group relative to controls with p-values of less then 0.001, less then 0.001 and 0.001, respectively. Youden index values for DCP, AFP, CA-199, and their combination (DCP+AFP+CA-199) were 0.5, 0.423, 0.173 and 0.673, respectively. The AUC curve values for DCP, AFP, CA-199 and their combination (DCP+AFP+CA-199) were 0.759 (95% CI 0.624 - 0.894), 0.826 (95% CI 0.720 - 0.933), 0.727 (95% CI 0.613 - 0.841) and 0.862 (95% CI 0.755 - 0.968), respectively. CONCLUSION DCP, AFP and CA-199 have diagnostic value for cHCC-CC, and the combination of DCP, AFP and CA-199 is useful for assisting diagnosis before histological examination. Clinicians should be alert for cHCC-CC when DCP, AFP, or CA-199 levels are abnormal.OBJECTIVE To investigate the ablative effect and safety of trans-catheter arterial chemoembolisation (TACE) combined with radiofrequency ablation (RFA), and TACE alone for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma and compare the changes in the level of relevant serum inflammatory and tumor markers. STUDY DESIGN Descriptive comparative study. PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, Affiliated Hospital of Hebei University, from January 2016 to June 2018. METHODOLOGY Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma were randomly chosen and classified into combination group and TACE group, according to the treatment method. The 106 patients in the combination group were given RFA combined with TACE for treatment. The 112 patients in TACE group were given only TACE treatment. The objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) of short-term ablative effect, and adverse effect, serum inflammatory, and tumor markers' levels were compared for both groups before and one month after treatment. RESULTS ORR and DCR of combination group were significantly higher than those of TACE group 84 vs. 58%, and 99 vs. 80%, respectively (p=0.013). The differences in the frequency of adverse effects were statistically significant (p less then 0.05). After treatment, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), alpha fetoprotein (AFP), and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) of both groups declined significantly (p less then 0.05), that of the combination group significantly lower than those of TACE group (p less then 0.05). After treatment, tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and hypersensitivity C reactive protein (hsCRP) of both groups declined significantly (p less then 0.05), that of combination group significantly lower than those of TACE group (p less then 0.05). CONCLUSION TACE combined with RFA has better ablative effect than pure TACE in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. It can effectively reduce the level of tumor active factor and improve microinflammed state of the body.
