Yet, anticipating where this will occur is often hampered by a lack of understanding of how demographic rates, most notably recruitment, vary in response to climate and competition across a species range. Using large-scale monitoring data on two dry woodland tree species (Pinus edulis and Juniperus osteosperma), we develop an approach to infer recruitment, survival, and growth of both species across their range. In doing so, we account for ecological and statistical dependencies inherent in large-scale monitoring data. We find that drying and warming conditions generally lead to declines in recruitment and survival, but the strength of responses varied between species. These climate conditions point to geographic regions of high vulnerability for particular species, such as Pinus edulis in northern Arizona, where both survival and recruitment are low. Our approach provides a path forward for leveraging emerging large-scale monitoring and remotely sensed data to anticipate the impacts of global change on species distributions.This review explores children's self-reported outcome measurements in pediatric neurology. We examine the following questions (1) What is meant by patient-reported health, functioning, and quality of life outcomes? (2) How can patients express whether the interventions they receive do more good than harm? (3) Why and how should pediatric neurology patients help determine the outcomes of interest? (4) What tools and recommendations are available to evaluate the outcomes of interest? Applying patients' perspectives across the processes of evaluation of medical interventions has become an important expectation. These developments, consistent with current healthcare goals, coincide with the evolution of pediatric neurology into a sophisticated diagnostic-interventional field that aims to prolong survival, decrease impairments and symptoms, and improve patients' well-being - the recognized essential endpoints of interest in all medicine.

We aimed to characterize the clinical profile and outcomes of new onset refractory status epilepticus (NORSE) in children, and investigated the relationship between fever onset and status epilepticus (SE).

Patients with refractory SE (RSE) between June 1, 2011 and October 1, 2016 were prospectively enrolled in the pSERG (Pediatric Status Epilepticus Research Group) cohort. Cases meeting the definition of NORSE were classified as "NORSE of known etiology" or "NORSE of unknown etiology." Subgroup analysis of NORSE of unknown etiology was completed based on the presence and time of fever occurrence relative to RSE onset fever at onset (≤24h), previous fever (2weeks-24h), and without fever.

Of 279 patients with RSE, 46 patients met the criteria for NORSE. The median age was 2.4years, and 25 (54%) were female. Forty (87%) patients had NORSE of unknown etiology. Nineteen (48%) presented with fever at SE onset, 16 (40%) had a previous fever, and five (12%) had no fever. The patients with preceding fever had moy prolonged, and outcomes are worse, as compared to refractory FSE. Fever occurring more than 24 h before the onset of seizures differentiates a subgroup of NORSE patients with distinctive clinical characteristics and worse outcomes.In vitro models aim to recapitulate the in vivo situation. High molecular weight hyaluronan (hMwt HA) is one of the most abundant bioactive macromolecules in healthy synovial fluid, while shear and dynamic compression are two joint-relevant mechanical forces. The present study aimed at investigating the concomitant effect of joint-simulating mechanical loading (JSML) and hMwt HA-supplemented culture medium on the chondrogenic differentiation of primary human bone-marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hBM-MSCs). hBM-MSC chondrogenesis was investigated over 28 d at the gene expression level and total DNA, sulphated glycosaminoglycan, TGF-β1 production and safranin O staining were evaluated. The concomitant effect of hMwt HA culture medium and JSML significantly increased cartilage-like matrix deposition and sulphated glycosaminoglycan synthesis, especially during early chondrogenesis. A stabilisation of the hBM-MSC-derived chondrocyte phenotype was observed through the reduced upregulation of the hypertrophic marker collagen X and an increase in the chondrogenic collagen type II/X ratio. A combination of JSML and hMwt HA medium better reflects the complexity of the in vivo synovial joint environment. Thus, JSML and hMwt HA medium will be two important features for joint-related culture models to more accurately predict the in vivo outcome, therefore reducing the need for animal studies. This systematic review was conducted using the guidelines of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). To identify studies investigating the association between miRs and platelet function and maturity in patients with CVD, PubMed and Embase were searched on October 13 and December 13, 2020 without time boundaries.
