Seed skin grafting can be considered as part of a multimodal treatment approach for cutaneous defects caused by ulcerative immune-mediated diseases where secondary intention healing is delayed or contraindicated, and other forms of wound reconstruction may be prohibitive.
The Nijmegen Cochlear Implant Questionnaire (NCIQ) scale uses a simple and easily administered questionnaire to evaluate the adaptation of individuals to their cochlear implants. The aim of this study was to validate the NCIQ for European Portuguese, through its translation and cultural adaptation. It also presents the evaluation of reproducibility and the description of the results of this questionnaire in patients using IC.
Fifty postlingually deaf adult multichannel cochlear implant users (uni- or bilateral) participated in the study. Participants used the cochlear implant for at least 12 months and were patients of the Department of Otolaryngology at the Egas Moniz Hospital in Lisbon. Permission, as well the guidelines for translation, were obtained from the authors of the scale. Translation and cultural adaptation were carried out, in addition to the evaluation of reproducibility and internal consistency.

There is a paucity of data that compares the relative complication profiles of laparoscopic vertical sleeve gastrectomy (LVSG) and laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) at 5 years.
The aim was to compare late complications of LVSG and LRYGB.
We updated our previous systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials of primary LVSG and LRYGB procedures in adults, to review late (5 years) complication outcomes (PROSPERO 112054). Electronic databases were searched from January 2015 to July 2021 for publications meeting inclusion criteria. The Hartung-Knapp-Sidik-Jonkman random effects model was utilized to estimate weighted mean differences where meta-analysis was possible. Bias and certainty of evidence was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool and Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations.
Four randomized controlled trials met the inclusion criteria (n=531; LVSG=272, LRYGB=259). No late treatment-related mortality was reported with either procete both surgical and nutritional long-term outcomes post these procedures.A nonlinear Fano interaction has been reported here which is manifest in terms of a parabolic temperature-dependent phonon decay process observable in terms of a Raman spectral parameter. Temperature-dependent Raman spectroscopic studies have been carried out on heavily and moderately doped crystalline silicon to investigate the behavior of anharmonic phonon decay in semiconductor systems where Fano interactions are present inherently. Systematic study reveals that in heavily doped systems an interferon-mediated decay route exists for cold phonons present at lower temperatures ( less then 475 K) where Fano coupling is stronger and dominates over the typical multiple-phonon decay process. On the other hand, the anharmonic phonon decay remains the predominant process at higher temperatures irrespective of the doping level. Temperature-dependent phonon self-energy has been calculated using experimentally observed Raman line-shape parameters to validate the fact that the nonlinear decay of phonons through interferon mediation is a thermodynamically favorable process at low temperatures.Proteus syndrome is a very rare disorder with progressive, asymmetrical, and disproportionate overgrowth of body parts with a highly variable phenotype. It is associated with mosaicism for the recurrent heterozygous somatic gain-of-function variant c.49G>A (p.Glu17Lys) in the protein kinase AKT1. We report on a girl with a progressive intraosseous lipoma of the frontal bone and additional, nonspecific features including mild developmental delay, strabism, and a limbal dermoid of the left eye. She did not fulfill the criteria for a clinical diagnosis of Proteus syndrome. However, mutation analysis of AKT1 in a lipoma biopsy revealed this specific activating variant. Several cases of progressive intraosseous lipoma of the frontal bone have been reported in the literature. Only in two of these observations, a tentative diagnosis of Proteus syndrome was made, based on additional clinical features, although without molecular-genetic verification. We conclude that oligosymptomatic Proteus syndrome should be considered in progressive intraosseous lipoma, as recognition of this diagnosis has relevant implications for genetic counseling and opens novel treatment options with AKT1 inhibitors rather than surgical procedures.
Understanding the pathogenesis of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is essential for its diagnosis and treatment. The study aimed to explore regional homogeneity (ReHo) and changes in effective connectivity (EC) between brain regions in TLE patients, hoping to discover potential abnormalities in certain brain regions in TLE patients.
Resting-state functional magnetic resonance data were collected from 23 TLE patients and 32 normal controls (NC). ReHo was used as a feature of multivariate pattern analysis (MVPA) to explore the ability of its alterations in identifying TLE. Based on the results of the MVPA, certain brain regions were selected as seed points to further explore alterations in EC between brain regions using Granger causality analysis.
MVPA results showed that the classification accuracy for the TLE and NC groups was 87.27%, and the right posterior cerebellum lobe, right lingual gyrus (LING_R), right cuneus (CUN_R), and left superior temporal gyrus (STG_L) provided significant contributions. Moreover, the EC from STG_L to right fusiform gyrus (FFG_R) and LING_R and the EC from CUN_R to the right occipital superior gyrus (SOG_R) and right occipital middle gyrus (MOG_R) were altered compared to the NC group.

This study integrates several hospital data systems into a case-controlled database to use data analytics for the identification of significant central line-associated bloodstream infection risk factors and develop time-varying patient risk scores for central line-associated bloodstream infections. A case-control study was performed utilizing patient data collected from various sources then gathered and organized into a case-controlled dataset for analysis examining various patient-specific attributes for central line-associated bloodstream infections. Training and testing sets were created, and multivariate logistic regressions were used to identify risk factors for central line-associated bloodstream infection. Furthermore, the Cox proportional hazards model was used to infer the hazard rate and risk score for central line-associated bloodstream infections for each individual patient during hospitalization. Significant attributes for central line-associated bloodstream infection cases were the ICU location (P = .008), time from insertion (P ≤ .001), number of surgeries (P = .003), and number of central line manipulations (P = .003). Real-time data analytics and point of care at the bedside can facilitate precision care for patients with an elevated central line-associated bloodstream infection risk, subsequently changing the way healthcare prevents hospital-acquired infections.Peptide mapping by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry is the gold standard to characterize post-translational modifications (PTMs) and disulfide bonds. The structural integrity, heterogeneity, and quality of biotherapeutic proteins are evaluated via reduced and non-reduced peptide mapping methods. However, non-enzymatic artifacts are often induced during sample preparation when alkaline pH conditions are used. To minimize these artifacts, methods using various acidic pH conditions have been developed by multiple researchers. However, these may lead to missed and non-specific cleavages during the analysis. In this study, an improved reduced and non-reduced peptide mapping method has been proposed to characterize endogenous chemical modifications and native disulfide bonds of monoclonal antibody-based products. Solubilization has been carried out at acidic pH conditions under high temperature, followed by the addition of tris (2-carboxyethyl) phosphine as a reducing agent and a low alkylating agent. It was observed that the non-enzymatic PTMs and non-native disulfide scrambled peptides significantly reduced under trypsin plus endoproteinase Lys-C digestion conditions at acidic pH as compared to the traditional methods. The results demonstrate that the proposed reduced and non-reduced peptide mapping method using trypsin plus Lys-C could identify and quantify various chemical and disulfide heterogeneities with minimal artifacts.
